Over the past few years I have notice a bit of a trend on this channel... This is a home for Virtual Railfans. From the early days of MSTS on OpenRails, to the modern day Railworks and Trainz: A New Era this is your one stop place for your monthly dose of Rail Simulators fun. Sometimes you'll even get a video on real life railroading.
Derail Valley Episode 7: Switching in the Rain
With the cargo delivered it's now time to sort it and unload it. With a little DE2 with us it should be more than enough to do the work, even if the rails are a bit damp. So Let's get started with today's work in Derail Valley.
Special thanks to @Hyce777 for allowing me to use his music throughout the video. Make sure to check out his channel for more great railroading content.

Even though our train is nothing more than empties, the real challenge is to try and maintain our speed once we go down the other side. And while speed is key it can also be our downfall. One of the toughest grades in America was none other than the infamous Saluda Grade. With a grade of nearly 5%, trains like the Belmont often had to run with more than 5 locomotives just for the braking power. Today we'll be tackling the grade with a empty coal train. During the later years of American Narrow Gauge, the Colorado & Southern was still powering much of their passenger and freight trains with their small B4D 2-8-0s. While not as powerful as the Ks over on the Denver & Rio Grande Western, they were the backbone of the narrow gauge system. Today we take a trip over that narrow gauge system on our way to Central City. Special thanks to @Hyce777 for...

lmao the reporting mark
Very nice
Sir I'm gonna have to have you turn the bell on for 10% extra tractive effort and couple into a plow for 10% more speed
Hi! Is it set to dynamic weather or do you set it manually?
To be perfectly honest I was setting manually before the video. There is Dynamic weather but I don't use it much.
Love those gauges in the corner.
That was part of an update that was released earlier this year. It looks a lot better than it did before honestly.
if you play (for what ever reason) a european/swiss themed scenario, you might run into the need of german signals/semaphores. if you cant find them still online to dwonload, ask me - I was the guy who did the big-german signal/semaphore mod.
Thanks. I typically go for more of the American Stock and whatnot but all mods are good. That is when I can find them anymore.
Why is the track draw distance so shit? Is that the game or your PC?
I believe it is the game because that has been a problem since I got my brand new PC which is running the game perfectly fine. I have all the settings set to ultra and it runs quite nicely with my 4060.
i still play this with mods its awesome game
I have some mods installed as well. I just haven't made any maps that use them or modded any of the built-in maps to use them.
Really enjoying your RRO vids. Like that it's you, running the loco, delivering stuff to places while talken about random things. Really chill and just fun to watch. I have 1200+ hrs of recordings for RRO going all the way back to almost Beta release day. Haven't quite figured out a format for a UA-cam channel, lol. Maybe someday 😂 Loco on!
PS: Your commentary at the end of this episode is absolutely perfect! Enjoy the game, run some trains, have fun! To hell with what the naysayers say! 👍👍👍
Thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying the series. The last bit of my commentary was actually spurred on by a friend of mine who is always worried about what other people think. He and I have been friends for years and he has always been worried about what other people think of him and what he enjoys. I hope that if he watches this that he'll take my words to heart.
@@VirtualRailfanProductions It's tough nowadays when it seems everyone is judgmental and seemingly always has nothing but negative things to say. The trick is to block out the negativity and do what YOU enjoy. Find others who like what you like and lessen the negativity as much as possible. When it comes to gaming that seems to be quite the herculean task. I say for every 1 commenter that posts negativity, there are 5 watchers who like what they watch just choose not to comment. Bottom line is: If YOU like what you do, that's all that matters. Sorry to get all philosophical and stuff. 🖖
FYI, you've got a typo in the video title.
Thanks for letting me know. It's been awhile since I've heard from you.
It has. I hope you're doing well. :)
Well aside from the fact that I have gone blind in my left eye and the retina has partially detached from my right eye, I've been fine. More or less.
Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.
Well if you ever want to chat directly I do have a discord. Plus I'm sure you still have my email as well.
it is a weight issue the cars in the middle are too light/empty and you are on a turn so when you try to pull away the dead weight at the rear stretches the car and pulls them off. you could rearrange the cars? or you could add a power unit to middle or rear. give it very light throttle it wont push or pull hard but it should take that edge off. You have all that coal at the back of the train water tankers at front and a ton of empty flats in middle
That's what I figured honestly.
I like how u put down your track. Like with the ballast
Yeah I'm a little OCD when it comes to that honestly LOL
Doesn't it have any proper lighting? Everythings dark.
You can adjust it in the graphics settings. I like to adjust it dark when it's day because if you don't, it looks like a bomb going off. At night, I adjust it to be lighter so I can see what I'm doing.
Thanks for letting me know. I haven't changed much of the settings in the game since I got it. I'll see what I can do for the next video.
Speed, power, beans
Spoken like a true man of culture.
Ok good the more lisence u have the more u have to be careful not crashing and bashing
It's hard to derail when you can't get up the hill with your train LOL
Fun video. The DE2 has cab lights. The switch is with the other switches on the right hand side below the starter switch.
Nice....
Thanks, there is more coming.
This was actually kinda fun to watch!
Glad you enjoyed it. I've had Derail Valley since May 2020, but I hadn't really messed around with it for a video because I wanted to make this first. This is basically going to be the intro to each video.
Daaaayum you make it look guud
Thanks, I honestly didn't expect this to turn out this well.
What route is this?
The route is the Mississippi River Valley which was originally available on Railworks America. However I'm not sure if it's still available as of right now I have to double check.
YOOO Where did you get that K-27 model??
It's actually part of the route, which you can getfrom Steam.
excellent video 👍
Make sure you don't go through there during a blizzard. ESPECIALLY during March, that's a rough month. ;)
I think I heard a story about a K-37 getting stuck in a blizzard in 1951. I don't remember where tho 😉
@@VirtualRailfanProductions Ahh, yeah that rough as well. Just make sure you wear a mask though, especially if you go lookin' for a lost choo choo. ;)
absolutely great video, really inspirational for me to use for research.
I wouldn't use my Videos for research. However the @crrm and @hyce777 are a much better source than me and is actually kinda where I got some of the information from.
@@VirtualRailfanProductions tru that Hyce & crrm would have better research possibilities, along with my thousands of historic pictures the I've collected of the RGS & D&RGW. But ofc there's some areas that photographs don't cover which leads me here, you playing this section of the route can help me use inspiration for my own projects. & ofc I could just play the route myself but I can't cause I don't have a PC, so yea ty
I've had this idea for a while now of a UA-cam video, involving some variation of the song Diggy Diggy Hole, for Railroads Online, but don't really have the resources to do it myself. I've proposed it to Kist_This before, but he's yet to act on it.
So u are back youtubing ?
I'm trying to yes
Hey man. Under what email can I send you some audio files? I have some replacement ChuffHi and ChuffLo sounds for the T54. But I am having an issue. I changed the files to .wav under the proxydata but the sounds are still not working. Wonder if you could allocate the issue?
I rather not give my personal email out via the Public Comments, but if you want to message me through Discord I will be more than happy to help you there. My Username there is ShadowSteel18. I also have a Discord Server by the name of Dieselworks.
you stole the name from Kan Gaming

@@nightingaleshark0075 Yeah I was watching their RO Videos at the time. I do plan to get back to it on the New Map, but this time trying to do my own thing.
Not bad. But 4 fps is really not nice
Yeah ever since I went to the beta my performance has taken a hit.
chaos head love chu chu english translation still isnt out
where did you get this from?
(the route upgrade)
@@jake.787 Sadly it was never properly published and what's worse is that I was never on his updated route to being with. It turned out that when I started the scenario I had opened up the same scenario on the default route. Recording has been an issues as of late, but I eventually plan to make an update video explaining why I have been absent for nearly 2 years now and to hopefully clear some stuff up about some of the older videos.
Where is the Re-Skin for the K4? I love it and would like to add it to my collection
They've never been properly released actually. I need to do that eventually. I have a few old models that need touching up.
I believe the F7s are 950, 949, and I think the B-Unit was 960s
November 30th and December 1st, 1957.
How large is this route I have a friend building the Iowa- Illinois Division from Omaha to Bensenville and maybe to Chicago in T:ANE we are using actual towns and industries and grade crossing signals and block signals on the route.
subbed and liked :)
Awesome steam train
She was once the loudest steam locomotive to operate in excursion service, and was the only 4-8-2 Mountain Type in excursion service. I clearly remember one occasion during her last excursion where I could clearly hear her pounding up the Kirkwood Grade just 10 miles from my house.
I did use the full consists mode on the scenario LOL ! its easiest way for me than manually laying stuff across
Awesome Man Finally
I guess you could say this was a year in the making. XD
Awesome man!
Cool video dude
LOL Thanks, I just wish the game didn't glitch out like it did.
Nice video! Just subscribed!
Thank you very much. I got a lot planed for the next few months. So I hope I don't disappoint.
Strasburg Railroad Foamer and proud of it!
Well again awesome
Cool video as usual! Actually little confusing to understand American Railroads
I can see where that can be a problem from the modern era, but back during the days of Steam everyone had very different looking locomotives. Now that there are only two locomotive builders compared to the 4 or 5 we had during the 1940s, everything pretty much looks the same. At least to me, and that's coming from an American.
OMG thats Epic !! just being Honest XD!!
Thanks, but this was made back during a time when I had no idea how to make videos. I'll probably remake this later on this year. After all I still have all of the Original RAW footage.
Hey caleb, in the next episode of screenshot of week, can it show my NS SD60E train?
Not to make it sound like a generic response but if you head over to the North American Railway's Discord and submit a screenshot of the train there is a chance it might be featured.
