Advanced Back Control: Using your legs for dominant control of the back
The most dominant position in BJJ is controlling the back, away from all your opponents strongest weapons.
You've worked hard to get there so don't rush and lose the position. Maintaining this position is key to success in submissions. You may be surprised to see the level of control your legs can provide. Even stronger than the seatbelt with your arms.
2nd Degree Rickson Gracie Black Belt Chris 'Bones' Burns digs into maintaining control from the back with attention to using your legs.

Side Control is one of those frustrating places to get stuck in BJJ. Shoulder pressure, weight on your chest and exposure to chokes and armlocks. Dig a bit deeper and get comfortable in Side Control here: www.thebjjprojec...

This is the second video I saw from this channel this week and I'm liking what I see. Simple, effective and no fluff!!! New subscriber here!!!!
Welcome aboard!
Thanks, super useful, crazy how a focus shift changes everything, “move yourself, not them”
Changes everything, yes! I also like 'the ground is an unlimited gas tank'.
I feel like I’m learning jiujitsu from RDJ
You're not the first to say that 😂
Subscribed !! Thanks man.
Great job man !
Thank you! Cheers!
Hello, just out of curiosity, why the goat head logo ?

These details are incredible. I feel like there is a whole range of Rickson Gracie knowledge that is lost in most BJJ instruction.
Pretty standard knowledge from side control.
@ at first glance yes. But there are details that are being missed in almost all other side control escape videos.
Did / do you train under Kron?
As a student of Rickson Gracie, Chris is passionate about preserving his version of the art 🙏🏼
@@the.BJJproject used these concepts last night at class to great effect. I am pumped, thanks guys!
Great video! First one I watched, keep em coming please
“Put your hand on my face. Push it away. Take my back.” Boom, mind blown.
This is some Rickson Gracie type insight
yes, yes it is!
Something interesting I learned about the knee on belly defense as well as ton of other defense/counter concepts. I can find ways to defend/counter the knee on belly as there is an answer south, north, left and right. Amazing, definitely feels good to know. Students no longer want to knee on belly me, thus I take away that option from their game. I'll do the same for all other attack moves they have.
I also view this concept from Chris Akins. The point is also that most instructor dont teach it to white belts. Therefore explains why our rookies struggle with their postures on bottom.
Chris is an awesome coach… and yes, that is him 24/7. Comedic coaching. Love it.
What’s stopping them from stepping over and taking mount and you giving up back exposure?
i was thinking the same right now🤝
Just from watching it seems there are 2 BIG key elements that stop the stepping over problem : #1 Chris is fully on his side. (2:18 he highlights critical position of his shoulder) #2 controlling Nathans"s elbow /arm ( Chris had Nathan's elbow pulled across his body so Nathans positioning is weak. Those are just my lounge chair coaching observations so take them at your own risk. 😅
This will be helpful. I'm build like you but always get stuck on bottom
does this help? library.thebjjproject.com/programs/collection-side-control-escape-foundations
