The Bee-Rex Beekeeper
Приєднався 4 лис 2021
I’m a 10+ year still learning beekeeper. All my videos are unedited real beekeeping. I will never edit mistakes I make, because that’s how we learn. We learn from our own mistakes and others. I’d rather me make a mistake on my videos so you can learn from them. I hope you enjoy my videos.
Finally!! I’m preventing ants from going into my bee hives!!

the white wire running to your inlet manifold is for a pre heater coil that you use along side x2 squirts of the primer bulb on fuel tank petcock

We are having the same issue right now! I believe they come in three the cracks of the sliding glass door. If you find a way of getting rid of them around the house let us know.
@@Whitesmokehoney I wish I knew how. Our cats love them 😂
I've used both grease and duct tape...with the duct tape reverse wrap around legs making it double wide ants ger stuck on adhesive and it's easy to remove and replace !
@@joesmith6420 😲🤯I’ve never thought of this!! Thank you
Why didn't you use it like stick deodorant, that's what I do, use a stick to push it out, them rub it on like glue

Take 4😂ya ants can cause a real problem for bees. Blessed Days...
@@dcsblessedbees I live in Maine I’ve been keeping bees for 20 years. They don’t bother my hives they live in lids. They coexist everybody’s happy. Personally, I’ve never seen a problem. They’re just aggravating to the beekeeper I do believe but each of their own you have a blessed day, my friend.
Ants and bees are related. I hope they don’t get upset. You’re trying to stop their relatives from visiting.😂😂😂😂😂
@@stormryder9202 😂 I’m ok with it.
With grease on the legs to stop ants you might add some Borax to kill them too as the bees will fly by while the ants may try to work past the grease.
Poly hives I think are the best
@@aaronparis4714 I got 2 complete poly hive setups. Next year I’ll get them going. I’m kinda interested in how they’ll do.
@ I’m in Canada and I love them bees in wood hives they are clustering at 10 and the poly hives they don’t cluster until -10 the eat way less food then a wood colony
@aaronparis4714 i don’t have the cold problem i have the complete opposite. My hives bake in the summer sun here in Florida. I’m interested in the bees can keep the hive temperature regulated with less effort.
@@BeeRexBeekeeper lol I guess you don’t have any problem with cold 😂😂but yes I have noticed a big difference in the summer also no bearding at all in my poly hives
@ good
They are great in warm summers but not for cold winters they will have a very hard time moving side was in cold temps
@@aaronparis4714 I’ve never heard that, interesting.
I just checked on mine again yesterday. They finally made alot of progress building out the comb and starting to store more honey (past the brood area). Was real impressed. Being their first year, I didnt expect much but next year should boom if I dont screw it up. I have 2 more longs I built that I will add in the spring.
@@kenhawkins nice!!!
Dude! 20 nucs too short! DANG, that left a mark!
😂 yup it did. Lesson learned.
Glad to hear you like them. I like to hear others opinions. I've built a hybrid-long hive and I'm building two more Long-Lang Deep hives. I'm a bit lazy but I'll get them done before spring...I hope.
I built my own horizontal hives from my own plans. Some are set up for flow hive frames and some are not. If you clean out that area at the bottom I put Beetle trays with dianacous earth in them. That will kill beetles, mites, wax moths and so on providing your hives hav a screen above that area
That’s actually a great idea. There is a tray for underneath. I’ll put it back with the diatomaceous earth. Thanks for the tip. I like the idea of the flow frames also, nice job.
Longhives are great at being longhives, I divided mine up and use mine as my mating nucs. Your hives might do better if you helped them out with the ants, sorry but it's true.
😂 your probably right about the ants. 🐜 I like the idea of dividing it up for mating nucs.
I'm glad you like the long langs.. I went to a seminar on Layens long hives and I'm going to be building a long lang this winter to use next season.. I'm 70 and that bending over and lifting is beginning to be a chore.. So it's gonna be long hives for me.. Thanks for your opinion..
You’re welcome. Dude!! Long hives are so nice.
Man those ants. 🐜. Grease them legs 😂. Very educational. Great job.
I finally did 😂 you’ll see next video

I'm not sure if you're interested , but Mann Lake has queens for sale.. I know how late it is and it might not fit your program just saying ..
@@floydlenz2280 I got a queen, I’ll be posting a video soon about it.
@@BeeRexBeekeeper Hey I did some digging into swarm queens and found out something.. Michael Bush says that the reason some swarm queens are subpar is the health and food supply of the remaining bees and hive.. I'm not near as established as you , but that hit a nerve with me and sounded right.. Your thoughts ???
@floydlenz2280 it does sound right. Queen breeders will pack a hive really full of bees with no queen or eggs. They also feed them pollen. Because of the hive being so full and strong they are able to make big healthy queens. Most of my split queen or even the swarm queens will be small and subpar. Now that I think about it, that’s probably why my long hives split queen is so good. I packed that hive full of bees and pollen frames and they made an awesome queen. 🤔
That layens hive is so calm. Are you telling the queen what to do ? 😂 nice. You helping someone with there is awesome. Bye handles. 😮 and the other one is looking good. And of course a sting or two🐝. And nice suit. Winter what winter. 🥵. Two is better than one.

@@8pumpkin18 thank you
How long does it lasts? I think the rain or hail can remove all this. I also was thinking about something but with oil. But during the rain water may displace oil. So grease looks better but need some sort of umbrealla so that it won't be washed away. The other problem is that I'm not sure if the position of my beehive is final. So that it means legs getting complicated.
@@alexk6745 it actually lasts longer than you would think. During the Florida summer/rainy season I should be doing it every month. I’ll last the entire winter and spring.
@@BeeRexBeekeeper I liked this idea ua-cam.com/video/Sn8KKMIgXXw/v-deo.html this looks like you applied once and forget. Something similar could be added to yours to prevent rain to remove it. I tend to believe this may last for few years. But again this is the theory. I'm afraid the dust can ruin eveything. It will be covered with dust and ants will be walking easily. BTW, I just had a chat with a friend of mine and he told me that if the behive is strong you the bees will handle ants themselves without our help. I'm not making money I just plan to make healthy bee products for family. I don't need large quantities so might be ok to let the bees to do this. But I do not wanna lose behive as I paid money for it.
@@alexk6745 your friend is right. I’m hive are not bothered by the ants, it just bothers me more 😂.
I like that video too. It’s a great idea
Bees. , Always an adventure.. I too killed a queen about a month ago... Luckily I had another hive with brood and eggs .. There were enough drones left to mate her as she came out and all is still alive today... I'm with you Amigo.. Keep'em coming..

Nice...It looks like I am not gonna get any honey this year. Maybe because I started from Nucs and all non drawn out frames? Seems they have put a ton of energy into builiding out the frames but not a ton of extra honey.
@@kenhawkins it’s hard to get honey on the first year.
