Swamp Sawyer
United States
Приєднався 20 гру 2022
Amateur sawmill operator, we use a Woodmizer LT35HD the majority of the time. We also have a Grandberg International Alaskan mill with a 56” bar for slabbing large logs. I’ve learned a lot from watching UA-cam and hope to pass on some knowledge and tips as I go along.
Also, periodic videos on other topics besides saw-milling that have public interest. Kubota tractors, Stihl chainsaws and other equipment.

Black walnut log that was a yard tree. Couldn't turn it down and knew there would be a nail or two. Didn't think there would be 11. Still turned out beautiful.

This tree fell down a couple years ago and we were just now able to get it out of the swamp. Had signs of the ambrosia beetle being inside and we weren't disappointed.

Good job! You never know until you open it up. Wow, Jason can speak, usually he sounds like mumbling in the background 😁🤣 Chris Shea down in VA uses something to stabilize wood. I think its called preservation solutions and I think they sponsor his channel as well.
Yea he will get mad at me for putting that part in lol, he knows of some stabilizing material also. He was telling me about it.
Oh well keep it
Lol, thankfully it won’t stay long
We just like to share the joy :>)
I hear ya lol
Some nice slabs! Nice saw. Subscribed
Appreciate the subscription and watching 👍🏻
Air dry your lumber until the moisture gets below 20% before putting in a kiln. Trying to kiln dry lumber that is too wet will case-harden it making it difficult to work.
Correct sir, thank you for watching
Stunning Walnut
Amazing what the inside of a log contains. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful slabs!
Thank you, they are unique for sure.
Love your sweatshirt. My son is a retired Coast Guard CDR.
Awesome thank you for his service. My daughter is the Coastie, I was USAF 😁
Guitar body slabs!
Those would be great guitar pieces.
That's some nice looking figure!
Can't go wrong with black walnut, those should make for fun projects.
We have plans for a kiln to get it dried and usable.
Those short logs are awkward to deal with but they do pay off sometimes.
You got that right.
rifle stock quality....😎💯✌
Definitely, if I only had a buyer 🤣. Thanks for watching.
Alien 👽 face. Looks nice.
Thank you sir
Good looking slabs!
Thank you sir, much appreciated.
Nice oak slabs
Thank you,
Beautiful white oak crotch! It has to be better than good to warrant pulling out the Alaskan Mill.
Good job, the slabs came out looking good! The alaskan mills are great but also not something I would want to use every day. 😁
Yea it’s a beast. Can be operated by one person but better for us to have two.
Awesome video buddy Some fine looking slabs you cut with the chainsaw mill
Thank you, those big crotches usually hold some beauty.
That is friggin awesome buddy Can’t get much better than that. Will make a really spectacular table top
We’ve been blessed to get some nice black walnut. We still have some to mill up so look for more videos to come.
@ I rarely miss a video I will be watching
Hope you guys have a merry Christmas!..
Same to you and yours. Merry Christmas
Some nice walnut slabs buddy. Hopefully you get to 1000 subscribers over the holidays
Thank you, much appreciated. We are getting close. Merry Christmas.
Looks great, especially great not hitting nails this time.
Good job guys and Merry Christmas!
Thanks and Merry Christmas to yall
Good working
Thank you and thanks for watching.
He must have had a Nail Party going on
Definitely
Hey man it's Chris Stephanie's son I bought a Alaskan saw mill I've been milling a lot this spring I plan on getting a actual mill keep up the good work man love watching your videos!
Thanks Chris I appreciate it.
I'm surprised the blade was able to finish that cut!
Exactly, we were to. Could definitely tell it slowed it down.
I’m sorry Do you wear masks when cutting wood or just walnut ? Thank you
Thanks for the question, I wear one when milling black walnut and red cedar. Those irritate my sinuses bad. Sometimes I wear one when milling an old log with fungus growth to.
Entertaining video , do you wear masks for all weed roust walnut ? Thank you. I subscribed
Thanks for watching and subscribing. Yes I always wear a respirator/mask for black walnut and red cedar. Irritates my sinuses.
Good golly Ms. Molly, that's a lotta nails!
I jinxed us because just before that cut I said we had been pretty lucky by not hitting many nails overall. 🤪🥸🤪🥸
Wish you could have seen all the walnut, cherry and Osage I saw today up in PA. I need to take my trailer and load up next trip
Sounds like a good place. Be sure and cut the Osage as green as possible. It turns to rock LOL
That really stinks, you know you need a good blade to cut that stuff clean, but you also know you’ll probably hit metal in walnut, never fails. Double whammy
Definitely a doubled edged sword, want the lumber but high probability of junk in it.
@ and you can’t NOT cut it lol.
Did anyone else notice that he hit the whole hardware store on that log??
My apologies for not being professional 😁
Super cool!.. I’m checking out some Osage Orange right now up in PA.
Truly gorgeous
It is some truly unique wood. Thanks for watching.
this is high tier live edge slab wood in my area. I personally would pay about 150-200€ for each slab
What were you milling with a carbide blade? Surprised you were able to keep going!
Lol, no I think it was a 7 degree Woodmizer. We had hit 2 already and this was our 3rd blade. Had a turbo 7 on earlier but didn’t want to waste another one since this was a yard tree. Experiencing a lot of blade chatter so got to figure it out. Even with a new blade. Having a drive issue with the head I think.
That tree must have started out as a tree house lol
🤣🤣🤣 it was a yard tree in the town of Monroe.
There must have been a big sale on Nails
Definitely must’ve been lol
Its called spalted maple where i come from nor. Cal.😊
Ambrosia is a fruity salad
We have Spalted but there is the ambrosia beetle that gets in and streaks the wood.
Normally you get Spalted maple from hard maple. Soft maple tends to rot before it turns Spalted it just much to soft gotta catch it at the perfect time
We should’ve gotten it earlier but ground was too wet.
@ ya not much you can do about that buddy
Cool ripples in that one. Throw some water on it!..
Didn’t have any down there. 🤣
That's some beautiful stuff, hopefully it's stable enough to use.
Yessir I think we can get some good usable lumber out of it.
Some of those you and Jason were offloading looked like they would be beautiful book matched. Good work guys!
@@southernadirondackoutdoors yea they would be great book-matched. Will see how bad they check up when dry.
nice to see a new video. greetings Wolfgang
Hoping with cooler temp’s I can get em out. Work gets in the way also 🤣
I’ve got one small maple with beetle holes all in it. I’ll have it on the mill this week I hope.
That's the best way to see if it has the beetle in it. Look for holes about 1/16th of an inch to 1/8 in size. I hope its full because they turn it into some great looking stuff.
@ I actually didn’t notice the holes until I was taking it off the mill the other day to get some pine cut. I loaded it on the mill the night before but priority’s changed on me.
@ that’s how we decide which maples to cut. Look for those holes, the more the better.
Nice looking log. How solid is it?
The butt log was mostly solid the bottom 6 ft with spots here and there. Middle log was good and top log was pretty good. We needed to get it out of there a year ago but couldn't.
@ I sawed a huge old white oak a few years ago that I thought was mostly rotted, surprisingly only about 2” from the bark in, you could peel off by hand, the rest of the tree was hard as a rock but had the prettiest black streaks running through the whole log. Looked like tiger stripes
PTO shafts are the worst. We use a quick hitch on our John Deere, just back in lift and lock the levers down from the seat. But still fight with the Pto. Southern Adirondack Outdoors sent me.
Awesome I appreciate the post. Went back and forth tween quick hitch and Pats.
It looks a lot like walnut
Yes it certainly does. Stays straight milling it but it checked up bad. Hoping to salvage some for projects.
