Snow storm ended and back to stumps

That was a real early season whopper of a snow storm!!! It was an “upslope storm” so it comes in from the south east. They usually hit us way harder than the Denver metro. Cat 259 did fantastic. Spent a lot of time in it. Looking back, I’m pretty excited to move snow this winter. Thanks for watching! See you tomorrow! BYESTUMP.com

Fun fun good work. I hit some t post yesterday in the stump so my teeth are shot lop i know what i will be doing this weekend
@@facelesspsycho8252 they are the worst. They don’t grind good at all!
@ByeStump no they don't lol
99% of SC852 owners would have walked, can't believe it fit. I get you wanted a challenge but I honestly hope you charged double for that job.
@@diederik_theo I charged a fair price. I’m happy with the outcome and so is the client. I don’t walk away ever!
Where in Colorado you located? Curious is all. I was planning on starting a littler stump removal company in the springs. Wife's not quite on board yet. I'm in omaha neb currently and want to move back to Colorado so much . Just not certain of the lawn landscape stump removal work in the springs and areas up there. 30 years ago I did great up there. Moved to omaha and regret was to say the least. Lol. Love your videos. Keep on grinding man.
@@bobduhan thanks for watching. I live in Elizabeth but work across the entire state. I’m not going to the western slope for 1 pine stump but when the job is worth it or customers are patient I’ll put together a day about anywhere. It’s a good business but the market is absolutely saturated. Have a few friends that grind in the springs and it’s fierce. I bid work in the springs but rarely get it. I do a lot in monument and Black Forest and also over in divide and woodland park. CO is pretty awesome but Nebraska sounds better to me at this point
Good job patients was the name of the game on that job.
@@tonybabineau5642 that and not wanting to leave my machine in the backyard forever 😂
Happy to see youre posting again. Missed watching these videos
Hello where did you get them chip guards again i know you said it a video in the past but I can't remember thanks.
@@josh8518 from Sherrill. They’re Notch Tri Guards. I really like them. They’re heavy so they don’t blow around. That’s most people’s complaint is the weight
I like your videos and your set up sorry about your truck that's unfortunate. I am in Northern IL and am looking to start a stump grinding business part time at first to keep my bills paid and insurance with my current job. I was going to spend the winter getting set up and start grinding in the spring. I was wondering if you had a recommendations on equipment needed to start. I would like to not take any loans and pay cash so under 10k would be doable for me if that helps any. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Find a used rayco or vermeer. Dude you will make a killing and love it. Don't wait for work to come to you go door to door and talk to people. My dad had a little vermeer when I was a kid and we would take that machine with us when we would go to Seattle to visit my sister. He would make me knock on doors and ask if they had any stumps and leave a card. Best thi g he ever had me do it's a great skill. I have a vermeer sc38 I bought this year it's scary cause it's 43k out the door but man I love the thing it's a beast and makes money 💰.
@facelesspsycho8252 Thank you for the info that is helpful. Is there a size horsepower or machine I should be on the look for specifically to start with that you would recommend?
@Iliketochopwood the most horse power you can afford that will fit through a 36 gate. That would be my suggestion but that might be regional. If you have big yards with easy access or all your stumps are in the front of the house then just get the biggest HP machine you can afford. Check into the cutter head and make sure you can get teeth for them and keep it sharp. Mine is 38hp and I'm very happy with it but most of my stumps are 30in and down and 60 percent are in back yards with small gates so that influenced my perches greatly. Also I opted for 4x4 on mine and I am really glad I did but we have really sandy siol here so that's part of why I like the 4x4 . Most important thing is just get started now not a few weeks or days from now but right NOW and be prepared to mess up a little bit . I would be so much farther along if I would have just started getting after it instead of over thinking everything.
@facelesspsycho8252 thank you again that really helps
@@Iliketochopwood I’ve got some fantastic advice already and I agree. Get started now. Get the biggest machine you can afford. 38hp is way better than 25. A solid starter in the 38hp range would be a Vermeer SC362. If you can’t find one for your price a 252 or 292 would be great. They’re 25 hp. Good luck. If someone says no it means try again in a different way. Don’t listen to the trash talkers. Network. Network. Network. The more people that know you and what you offer the better you’ll be. Ask questions as they come up!
Did I hear you say snow removal?????

@@rosewood7794 woohoo!
I was thinking the tracks would be less ground pressure that the tires for rutting up a yard, what are your thoughts on this? Im also looking at a barretto 37sg for a first machine and then work my way up to a higher hp machine if the buisness takes off
@@motohobo8826 tracks tear grass. Even the slicks. Tires roll across it. I would absolutely prefer tires for hills, beautiful lawns, really rocky areas, etc. If I lived in the south and worked in swamps I would think tracks make more sense. Everywhere else I feel tracks are the wrong choice

@@h.i.m.dishonmaurice2599 no problem, thanks for watching!
I do like the cutting depth of the 852. That's one thing a lot of the stump grinding manufacturers in my opinion are lacking in is machines with 20 inches plus cutting depth.
@@danahasson2892 it’s crazy to see it in the air like that. It’s an enormous amount of cutting ability. I got to really push the Laski today for a replant. I love the little guy goes deeper than most other grinders too!

What happened to the track
@@tonybabineau5642 the front idler bearing blew up. I sound like steel track dozer tracking through the yard lol. Vermeer CO has one in stock for me. I was nervous I wasn’t gonna finish the job if it got to an inoperable point but I limped it through and got it home. It’s a 2014 with about 1100 hours so can’t be mad
Probably turbo. Always run your exhaust brake no matter what it helps.
@@rileypittman6583 always have. All my rams. Ever single time I turn the exhaust brake on. This truck works. I’m real surprised if it got sooted up that bad at only 111k.
Boost leak? Broken or loose rubber boot on intercooler? Can get a boost leak tester ($65) pump up with bike tire compressor and watch for let down and spray with soapy water on connections. You’d take the tube off the intake on turbo then attach adaptor, the pressurize.
@@Upliftyourbrothers guessing it’s a leak somewhere. Can’t find it. Gonna tear into it tomorrow night. Thank you
I love your videos. Does it seem to pass your tests so far? A decent enough starter grinder?
@@Upliftyourbrothers it’s a really cool machine so far. I haven’t used it a ton. I have had some small issues. But overall I am super happy with the purchase and definitely recommend it. For the price you get a lot of options
As a modification for for this sort of work (moving the stump after it's been dug up), you could weld some chain hooks on the top of the stump bucket toward each side so that you could loop a chain around the stump when you don't have the grapple handy. This would help tremendously on moving awkward objects like stumps plus it's super cheap and easy. There's lots of places to buy stuff like that of course, but I'll just go ahead and plug Kens BoltOnHooks since he runs an American small business and I"m all about supporting those when I can :) I have a little JD tractor and I've dug up a ton of stumps on the land I'm clearing with it and those hooks plus a chain make a world of difference in helping me move stuff around without having to constantly swap out attachments. Just a thought :) Also...the time-lapse footage with the clouds in the background was killer!
@@garycox7508 first off, the clouds were so sick!! I watched it a bunch of times. The stump bucket does have spots for chains. I was being lazy. It was Sunday! Hahaha. Thanks for watching and thanks for the awesome comment!
