The #1 Way to Get Kids to Behave Better
For this Wellness Wiki, Dr. Brian Stenzler interviewed his friend and colleague, Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge, a leading children’s mental health expert. Interestingly, Drs. Ro and Stenzler recorded this interview just a few days before the recent tragedy at Michigan State University. Our hearts ache for all of those directly and indirectly affected by the college campus shooting, including the good citizens of our nation and those around the world who watched the news footage of yet another senseless killing.
Most people are aware that children are dealing with more mental health issues now than in the recent past. We must remember that children who grow up with unhandled mental health issues often become adults with mental health issues. While this Wiki is not necessarily about mental illness, we must all be vigilant in discerning when a child’s behavior problem is more than just “being a kid.” We must also have the tools necessary to help the children under our care feel empowered, valued and most importantly, loved. How we communicate with them and make them feel can have a lasting impact on their behavior and mental well-being.
During this conversation, Dr. Ro will reveal the number one way to get kids to behave better. If you prefer to read the interview or listen to the audio, visit wellnesswikis.com/behavior. You can also sign up for our Wellness Wiki blogs on that page so you don't miss future articles.

  • @jmrumble

    The McDonald's fries picture is the exact same bucket of fries both times... But the quaker oats - am I reading correctly that while the UK one has freezedried raspberry and strawberry pieces, the US version has *apples* which are flavoured to taste like strawberry and colored red to look like strawberries? In other words that the Strawberries and cream oatmeal contains *no actual strawberries* ?

    • @drbrianstenzler
      @drbrianstenzler 3 місяці тому

      Based on what I read in those ingredients, I would draw the same conclusion; I see no actual strawberries as an ingredient in the US version. It does appear, however, that they must have made modifications to their formula over the years, as this is what the ingredients read on their website as of today: Ingredients: Whole grain oats, sugar, dried strawberries, salt, dried cream, natural flavor, nonfat dry milk, sea salt, dried vegetable juice concentrate (color), tocopherols (to preserve freshness). CONTAINS MILK INGREDIENTS. Last updated on October 21, 2024.

    G'day All, I'm an Australian pastry chef and as part of my apprenticeship I went to TAFE (ie Technical College) to learn about things like artificial colours and artificial flavours. Trust me when I say that their are ALL types of funky chemicals in those products. Question: Do you know why when you read a lolly (ie sweet) packet the ingredients list reads (E160b), (E162), (E150a-6)...? It's because the artificial colours and flavours in those Lollys are so chemically complex that it would require the packaging to be the size of a magazine cover if you wanted to write all those chemical names out in full.

    • @drbrianstenzler
      @drbrianstenzler Рік тому

      Thank you Matt for your comment, confirmation and insight! I appreciate the fact that many countries don't allow certain ingredients in their foods (such as hydrogenated oils) as abundantly as the U.S., but it's amazing that none seem to have an issue with the artificial colors which is potentially harmful!

    If a product labels corn syrup, is it Frutose? Are they the same?

    • @drbrianstenzler
      @drbrianstenzler 2 роки тому

      Corn syrup is mostly glucose. However, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) breaks down into fructose which is extremely sweet. When you see straight out Fructose on a food label, it's not necessarily as bad as corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup for a few different reasons. Fructose itself is the sugar naturally found in fruit. It is quite sweet, but of course, too much of it is not very healthy either.

    Is Corn syrup alone bad for you … all the research I’ve been doing keeps talking about High fructose….. is there a difference between the two

    • @drbrianstenzler
      @drbrianstenzler 2 роки тому

      @Vee Wisom... great question. I address the differences at 1:13 in the video. HFCS is a little bit worse because of the fact that it has more chemical modifications to it, along with the addition of fructose. However, they are both processed sugars and should be avoided as much as possible. You can reasonably make the argument that if you had to choose between the two, corn syrup is probably "less bad" for you, but neither is good for you.
