☮ 1972.....
I wonder if he knew Nick Drake. Maybe they would have liked each other
Roy is absolutely worth the time
Kevin was my favorite. So sad that he’s gone. At least we have his songs. ❤️
❤🩹❤💖
An incredible performance, hard hitting
Facelift etc. from Third, this was the best Soft Machine ever. Almost in the jazz 'side' (Vol. II almost there also) but the inventive, repetitive electronics, clearly ahead of that time, made a diference from IV and V, which were almost only jazz but no fun at all. IMFO
I like the bit at the end. Where they stop.
ILEA = Inner London Education Authority - enlightened times!
Music for feeble minded
Great composer, performer. He Can turn anyone into a MoonJunista as long as they lie perfectly still --
Kevin es muy musical...es dios. Por millas muy superior a tantos interpretes. Gracias por hacer de tu música el soundtrack de mi vida.
How we miss this time of great creativity. The likes of talent of one man and his guitar has been lost in the mists of time. There never was a time like this (late 60s early 70s) before or afterwards (now) when music was so good. I am biased (lucky) because I 'came of age' during this period.
They're all the same guy, right?
it really is amazing. With infinite digital tracks and tricks today, it doesn't sound as good as just these 4 guys playing live
Utterly sublime...this should be the most watched thing on You Tube. Aspiring singer-songwriter-guitarists, this is what you need to be listening to to measure up...oh no, that's world's gone, hasn't it? Or has it? Stunning, gob-smacking vignette of a truly great artist at the top of his game.
But yet a guy rating Pizza's on youtube get 4 million views 🤣 BTW, I like watching those pizza reviews too.
❤😊
I think the phrase pretentious bullshit springs to mind
Um. Yeah, it still moves me.
Merci, je découvre ces enregistrements précieux J'adore Soft Machine depuis le début ❤️
🔥🔥🔥
Great music. Canterbury goes On
Carl Jenkins is a Sir now. Blimey.
They had already turned into a jazz band when Ayers and Allen were gone. The lineup that opened up for the Jimi Hendrix Experience is the proper band
I saw them open for Jimi in Cincinnati at Xavier Univ. field house. Been a fan ever since.
Just been listening to 'drop' omg wow ..wheres all the live vids of this amazing band?
No conocia esta banda, grata sorpresa,lo bueno que son gracias por compartirla, saludos
Nice
Never heard of Third Ear before, I don't feel I missed out
This version of Soft Machine was the most satisfying musically in my opinion. My other impression, looking at this footage from more than 50 years ago - none of them had rockstar good-looks.
I never really “got” jazz improv in the 70’s. Listening to this fifty years on, I still don’t. But great piece of music history, and where Ayers was coming from, Clips of Ayers post Softs and before his solo work and Eno collaboration are few and far between, and cool to see Wyatt too. Thanks.
For everyone complaining in the comments, it gets good at 7:06
The Nucleus Machine.
Soft Nucleus sounds better.
They should've used Nik Turner instead.
Turner couldn’t play for toffee
I LOVE Wyatt, but -No... NOT Blown-away. This is pure Wankery!
It is so simple to get this annoying hiss off digitally nowadays. A spectrum analyzer vst would show the 3-4khz (or whatever) zone where the hiss peaks, pull that down with an equalizer. A 2 minute job
Jesus, in a world of plastic pop, we can still look back, just before the (musical) Cambrian explosion and see artists truly expressing themselves in dusty black and white telly studios. What a treat. Kevin Ayers was a genius.
Shame they only released three albums....
Nice!
My favorite Soft Machine album
Wow, totally blown away! Been listening to these dudes for 37 years, I do love these strange sounds.
In other drummers out there in love with the snare tone?
I'm not a drummer, but I absolutely love John Marshall's drumming, particularly his snare sound, and his ride cymbal (I think that's what it's called!).
Roy has been family in a lot of ways for my entire life, a voice of desperate endless frusteration, that soothing reminder that alone is not as it seems sometimes, that in this bedlam we do have similar woes. No division just a howling ode to madness and beauty and long lost love.
I first became aware of aThe Third Ear Band when I went to see Roman Polanski's movie Macbeth, some time in 1973, I think it was. They were perfect for the mood of the movie, and the play it was adapted from. I was a Shakespeare fan already, and I talked a group of my friends into going to see the film with me. It was their first time being exposed to Shakespeare. Afterwards, as we left the theater, everyone was puzzled by my fascination with the play and the film. I didn't make any converts, but I've remained a Shakespeare fan ever since, and a fan of this band!
I've never really got into this stuff, I must admit.
It was only beginning............
ILEA was the ‘Inner London Education Authority’. Certainly not a national TV channel, and never heard of it at th time.. Maybe it was for teachers and or music students in London.
This was probably meant for people doing music O level or something.
Brilliant. Love those keyboard duets
They played on a cold rainy day at the Isle of Wight Festival 1969? As they opened with the 1st notes the sun came out in a burst & stayed out. Music that is strangely strange but oddly normal.
I wont ever get enough of the Softs. The early stuff and the later. It's all good.
"Flat, Baroque & Berserk", & the track "Another Day" in particular, will stay in my heart.
If it were not for PICNIC
