Heygears Full Print Timeline - strange noise?
SKIP to 5 minutes 40 seconds for sound byte on new base layers....
---------
As I just received my Reflex RS no PRM module and PAS10 resin, I decided to do a test print, cones of calibration and J3D's boxes of calibration.
This video is the third test print - J3D's boxes of calibration.
Out of an abundance of caution I have checked printer screen, cleaned and checked the resin tray, rechecked build plate leveling and zero points in between each print. All seems fine. Perhaps nothing is wrong and sounds are ok.... Who else has Reflex RS printer? Have you experienced these sounds?
For the first 13-15 layers, the reflex RS makes rather loud noises when the build plate comes to the end of descending into the resin tray just before exposure of new layers. Two thud sounds and Max force -244N. Sent a blueprint studio help ticket showing video with audio (and slice file and log file) to ask if such noises are normal.
Heygears says yes no worries - machine would shutdown if pressure too much - which is good to know.
"We have reviewed the force curve and found that the zeroing force is 100N, which is within the safety range. Additionally, I have confirmed with the relevant personnel that the upper limit for the downward force on the RS printer is 250N. If this limit is exceeded, the printer will automatically stop to prevent damage.
Regarding the sound in the video, we have verified that it is the sound of the electromagnets on both sides tightening, which ensures a smooth printing process and naturally differs from other machines. If there were any issues with the printer, the device would report an error, as it is equipped with multiple force sensors for monitoring, making it very safe."
Prints complete ok, although the print results seem a little underexposed compared to my results with my optimum setting on my Saturn 4 Ultra 1.7s per layer 50um.

Strange sounds when Heygears RS build plate retracts towards screen during initial base layers

    The Heygears printers use solenoids to lock / unlock the floating LCD platform during the early layers, and I believe that this might be what you're experiencing here.

      Thanks. I found other issues with the printer unit I had: 1) like exposed cured resin bits stuck on NFEP in areas outside the print area that should not have been exposed - I always check for this before each print and found these patches of cured resin on NFEP after prints after starting from cleaned out resin tray and NFEP and filtered resin added for print, and 1) underexposure of prints using PAS10 resin with PAS10 slicer settings. So I returned it to Heygears.

    My copy is fine. I was concerned about this issue but performed a firmware update and I also read that UV filters massively impact the focus.

    With the picture it’s really hard to get focus. But With video works Better. To get good picture with it you need a little bit practice because it’s very long zoom.

      Focus with the lens is no problem. The problem is the stabilization for hand held shooting... The Sony lens stabilization is sub par compared to other similar 200-600mm zoom lenses from other manufacturers, for example the Nikon 180-600 Z mount on Nikon Z8 has vastly better stabilization.

      Hi, Thanks for the comment. I posted my questions on the sounds to so many youtube channels promoting the printer but only RisingApe responded that he did not think the sounds were usual. In the end, I am returning the Heygears RS - still within the return prior. I was not convinced by Heygears that the sound experienced were normal given that I experience other issues like cured resin being stuck in the resin tray/vat in those areas around the rafts of parts - areas that should not have been exposed and should not have cured resin. Also this half cured resin around parts, stuck to nfep, was for any print from freshly cleaned resin tray vat with freshly added filtered resin to empty tray. Seems like light bleed or resin compacting during base layers? Also some test prints were underexposed with the PAS10 resin and PAS10 Blueprint settings. I did not try any other Heygears resin. I really liked the physical printer quality and wanted to keep. Much better construction feel than Saturn 4 ultra. It felt premium. I could not however accept these noise as usual, together with the other print issues above, and given the premium price of the RS printer over my Saturn 4 ultra. The print quality (besides being slight underexposed) is better than the Saturn 4 ultra, but not twice as good. Perhaps I will take a look at Heygears again in the future, but as they did not offer to ship me a replacement printer unit to try, I decided to just return it for refund (I have to now pay for shipping to return a printer that I consider to be subpar to defective - shipment back tomorrow). Had the printer exposure settings been open to adjustment by end users, perhaps I could have played with settings to get them to my liking. Perhaps my PAS10 resin with out of spec... it was within the resin usage time period. But the partly cured resin in the vat after a single print convinced me to return the printer and move on. All these youtubers I posted my questions to and did not received answers from, all praised and pumped the RS so much that I decided to try it. It turns out they can't take the effort to reply to any questions that perhaps could indicate the the Heygears printer may be defective. It happens to any brand. They gladly accept the $s from affiliate program sales but they are either 1) too lazy to respond to viewers questions unless question posted with a few days video published or questions praise the printer further, or 2) they are restricted by Heygears agreements in posting answers to such questions that may or may not raise to viewers attention any potential issues with the printers. Who knows which it is. I think it likely both 1 and 2. Thanks.

    the worst aspect of this lens (as with Many Sony lenses for mirrorless) is that Sony doesn't really care about correcting focus breathing. This lens is good if you are going to focus on the infinity.

It cant come close to the sony in terms of wildlife and bif sports and action simply due to the fact it smoothly zooms internally + high fps+ TC

    I own the Sony 200600 G. It's been just over 8 months now. Stabilization is good as it gets for a 600mm zoom. I don't think any lens can be rock steady at 600mm irrespective of the stabilization. Tripod is a must for videos. What the 200600 can do is, you don't need that heavy of a tripod to support it as compared to a heavier 600 f4 lens. can even get away with a monopod.

    Why are you trying to shoot video hand held with a telephoto lens? Correct me if im wrong but isnt the image stablization for photography and not video? There is a difference between video and photo lenses.

    • @SeanMcChannel
      @SeanMcChannel 5 місяців тому

      Sometimes when shooting out and about, a tripod is not practical to setup and so handheld video is required. The video presents my finding and opinion on the Sony 200-600 lens' image stabilization performance which I consider to be sub par in today's market. Lenses with image stabilization should work for both video and photos applications, and do work, some better than others. My Nikon Z8 with Z180-600mm telephoto image stabilization for photo and video is so much better than the Sony A74 with the Sony 200-600mm lens. Oh, tell me about the difference between photo and video lenses for cameras with Sony e mount? I have not seen main stream manufacturers market lenses saying the image stabilization is not for video but only photo applications.

    How’s battery life? The a7rV has better ibis than Nikons whole Mirrorless system.

    • @SeanMcChannel
      @SeanMcChannel 10 місяців тому

      The A7RV is a great camera. The Z8 is also a great camera (which made camera of the year 2023). Every camera as pros and cons. The Z8 battery life is adequate - who would not want larger battery capacity for any system? If one needs to shoot tons of video just have another battery to swap or use a camera cage with external USB powerbank which I guess heavy video users would do anyway. I have not tested the a7RV ibis in detail, but I doubt it is that much better than Nikon Z8 in real world use. I have not tested other Nikon mirrorless cameras IBIS so can't confirm or deny your comment. Perhaps I may rent a A7RV sometime and do a side by side comparison of IBIS, but from my own experience, the Nikon Z8 +180-600 Z lens IBIS +VR stabilization performance is vastly better than the Sony A74 + 200-600 G lens IBIS+OSS stabilization performance. That I have tested. No camera's IBIS is perfect. Nikon Z8 is not a vlogging camera. Neither is Sony's A7RV a vlogging camera - A7RV rolling shutter is terrible. Every camera as pros and cons. Do you have a video showing the better performance of the Sony A7RV IBIS vs Nikon Z8 IBIS? I am not a fan boy of Sony or Nikon or Canon. I just use a camera that I have available and prefer to use for a particular situation. The 'best' camera is the one you have with you. Enjoy your Sony A7RV - it is a great camera from what I have seen. Cheers.

      Thanks Steven. Sounds like you have two really great setups. I have been looking at the RF100-500L or RF200-800 for a Canon setup. From all reports I see, the RF100-500 is a really great lens, with main cons being the high price and restriction on lens retraction if one has a TC attached. I have been using old EF100-400L Mk1 lens with my Canon R6II - looking at options to upgrade that lens at some point... I also need better weather and more time to go out with cameras. Thanks.

      I did look at A7RV as I noted in my video but it has terrible rolling shutter for video. Great high resolution camera for photos best suited to landscapes, still life etc not the best for shooting action IMHO, and less ideal for video due to rolling shutter. Trade off in Z8 for 45MP raw stills at 20 fps vs A7RV 61MP raw stills but at lower 7 FPS.

    I love my 200-600 G lens and consider it a great bargain. I should also say that I've been an amateur photographer for the past 45 years. If I was a pro I'd look at Sony's GM telephotos. I'm also very interested in Sigma's new 500 5.6 Sport lens.

    • @SeanMcChannel

      Thanks for the comment - appreciated. The Sony 200-600mm G lens is a great bargain. I just found the optical image stabilization performance of the copy I had when matched with the Sony A7IV to not be up to what I expected. As I said, perhaps the lens copy I had was defective in OSS in some way or my expectations were too high. However, from other reviews I have seen online, it seems the OSS performance and focus breathing issue of the lens are two areas I consider that could be improved in a MkII version. I have found the Nikon Z8 IBIS with the Nikkor Z 180-600mm lens' VR (OSS) to be much more effective for me if one has to capture hand held footage. Of course shooting hand held video is not ideal especially at 600mm with any system, but sometimes setting up a tripod with fluid head is not practical to capture a scene. Both systems are able to capture great images. Enjoy!

      I agree for amateurs photographeurs or videographeurs with tripod :) this 200-600mm lens is still good, you can find it used for 1500-1600€ in europe. New sigma 500mm f5.6 is very appealing, only drawbacks for me is limitation to 15 frames/s on sony systems (don't plan to buy the A9II with the sigma if you want 20 f/s) and the lack of TC compatibility :(

    • @SeanMcChannel
      @SeanMcChannel 11 місяців тому

      Thanks George. The Z8's recent firmware 2.0 update with bird subject detection is definitely a significant improvement to AF performance - and the other firmware updates are a bonus. Nikon is at least providing substantial firmware updates - unlike Canon and Sony. The Bird eye detection is now on par with Canon R6II subject detection in my testing so far (Canon R6II I understand was Canon's latest auto focus borrowed from the Canon R3). Before the firmware update I was a little uncertain about Nikon's AF subject detection of small birds being on par or better than competition from Canon or Sony, but since using 2.0 firmware some more, the AF performance is for small birds (eg. humming birds, chickadees) is very good. No camera system AF is perfect with complicated backgrounds, but I am satisfied with my decision to get the Nikon Z8 system over the Sony A7IV I sold. Plus I can use good old EF glass I have with the Z8 using the awesome Fringer EF to Z adapter, and Nikon has not locked down it lens mount system to native Z lenses. Sure the Z8 is more expensive than the Sony A7IV, but it is a camera body with much improved specs, handling, features and performance. I don't mind the larger Z8 camera body size vs the Sony A7IV, so it is a good fit for me. Going by Nikon's Z8 sales, it seems it is a good fit for many others as well.

    • @georgemeimaris
      @georgemeimaris 11 місяців тому

      I would love to have a bigger body, my only concern was autofocus. So you find it better or the same with the A7Iv ?

    • @SeanMcChannel
      @SeanMcChannel 11 місяців тому

      @@georgemeimaris With firmware 2.0 the bird AF beats the Sony A7IV (and Canon R5) and matches the Canon R6II in my opinion in real world use. If a subject is very small in the frame, then technically the Z8 may be slightly inferior in subject detection in such cases as the Sony A7IV has 759 auto focus points vs Canon R6II's 1053 auto focus points vs Z8's 493 auto focus points. But in the real world use, I don't see that as so significant - do you really need to take a shot if the subject is that small in frame that the number of auto focus points would have a major impact? I don't. From my research of the AF performance before purchasing the Z8 (I purchased it before FW2.0) I came to the conclusion that the AF is probably on par with the Sony A7RV (although I have not used the A7RV myself, I ruled out the A7RV as the video is crippled by the slow readout of the sensor resulting in absolutely terrible rolling shutter (sensor read out speed so slow on A7R5, Z8 also does much better in photos frames per second). So overall I find the Nikon Z8 video AF to be better than my experience with the Sony A7IV. Perhaps I could have played with the Sony A7IV more but I definitely don't regret selling the A7IV. I did not have many E mount lenses so that made my decision to change systems easier. I liked what Nikon was doing with the Z9 and Z8 and took the plunge in Nikon system. I hedged my best by getting the Canon R6II (for its lighter weight for hiking and it's AF performance while waiting for Z8's FW2.0) I prefer the Canon R6II over the Sony A7IV based on my experience with it - although I may be biased as I was a long time Canon shooter (Canon 5D, 5DmkII etc) Overall, the Z8 beats the A7IV hands down in my opinion in so many area - photo frames per second, video capture - it is not even a close competition - No rolling shutter in Z8 compared to terrible rolling shutter on the a7IV (readout speeds like 4ms for the Z8 Vs 28-35ms for the A7IV for 4k), Z8 also offers 8k-60p no crop raw for recompose of shots for 4k, waveforms and raw internal capture. I prefer my Canon R6II to Sony A7IV - those two are really direct competitors. The Z8 is like Nikon flagship Z9 camera in smaller body. Z8 costs a lot more than Sony A7IV - but I don't regret upgrading and purchasing the Z8. I would recommend finding a friend with a Z8 setup or renting a Z8 setup to test it for yourself - especially if you are heavily invested in Sony E mount - it may be worth the few $s to do so. (Sorry about long comment = I plan to do more videos on my Z8 experience == just got to get the time to do so)

      @@mirrorlessny Thanks. The Nikon Z8 and Nikkor Z 180-600mm lens combination’s image stabilization seems much better than the Sony A7IV and Sony 200-600 lens for hand held video - at least that’s been mine experience so far. Much more testing and experience with the Nikon setup required, but I find the Nikon to be a refreshing change from Sony and more enjoyable to use so far. In addition the Fringer EF to Z adapter works amazing compared to any of the EF to E mountain adapters I ever tried. It is not a cheap adapter but worth it as it works great just about like native lenses. I was a Canon shooter before moving to Sony mirrorless back in 2016, so as I still had some old EF glass, that has made the change to Nikon easier until I get more Z lenses. I just posted a short video of hand held video clips I took the day after getting the Nikon Z8 and lens setup - much to learn with the change in system. - Thanks.

    Yes it is subpar. Infact all sony lenses above 180mm are inferior to Canon & Nikon counterparts. And the 600mm is not at all 600mm at less than infinity focus range, its much less. I compared it to the Nikon 180-600mm and I was shocked to see the magnification difference. The only thing that is excellent in this lens is sharpness. If you have the budget the Canon RF100-500 is a sharp, lightweight lens with great image stabilisation. Otherwise the Nikon 180-600 is heavy than the canon but around 200gms less than the Sony and has great image stabilisation, a true 600mm and very good sharpness and excellent overall rendering.

      Thank you. This video was a quick simple test video of the DJI Pocket 3 to see well it performs in low light, high dynamic range with built in microphones and minimal processing in post. Looking at the video, the camera actually did well to fairly replicate how the scenes actually appeared to my eyes with regards to saturation and light levels. Would be nice if DJI would actually release details of colour science for development of appropriate CST (colour science transforms) for their D Log M format for Davinci Resolve colour management rather than just their official LUT. For this test I used DJI D-Gamut / Rec709 as input colour space to Davinci Wide Gamut/Intermediate and then to Rec 709/2.4. The DJI Pocket 3 is impressive for its size, weight and ease of use. Cons are really that the DJI Pocket 3 is not weather sealed/water resistant and the fragile nature of a gimbal (which can't really be avoided as this is its main feature to produce great smooth footage in low light compared to electronic stabilization methods) and fragile screen. Considering these cons for the use case scenarios for DJI Pocket 3 (not an action cam with extra protection), it is probably the best vlogging and easy-to-walk-around-with light camera that has auto focus that works well for purpose (ie not fixed focus like action cams). In camera processing is not too artificial like some action cams.
