Hi, I’m Josh! I am the Okie Craftsman working out of my shop in Oklahoma, and this is a woodworking and furniture restoration channel (mixed with a little DIY here and there) where I hope to inspire through restorations of old furniture, special designs and builds that occasionally come through my shop, or projects that I do for my family or friends. I hope you come along for the journey of me exploring my creative side and trying to put a smile on your face!
I am constantly trying to learn what works and what doesn’t in this UA-cam world, so I really appreciate feedback if you have anything you’d like to suggest to help me make my content better!
Feel free to email me at okiecraftsman@gmail.com, and don’t forget to follow my social media links below.

I Built a Wooden Beyblade Katana for my Son! // Woodworking
#beyblades #katana #woodenproject #woodwork #sword #wood
My son is a massive beyblades fan and we recently celebrated his 7th birthday. I've also really wanted to build (or try to build) a katana, which is a Japanese style sword often seen used in the Samurai culture. So I decided to build him a beyblade-themed katana as a birthday present for him. He really likes swords and weapons like any normal 7-year-old, too!
My goal was to use only materials I had on hand, so I used plywood to give me the basic shape as it was the only large piece of wood I had to accommodate the dimensions needed, then laminated two strips of white oak on either side. The tsuba (guard) and handle are made out of walnut scraps and painted with existing paint materials from previous projects.
It was a pretty fun build, and way out of my comfort zone, but I had fun with it and my son loved it...which makes every mistake and the time it took to do it worth it in the end.
Let me know what you think!
Be well,
Josh

Cleaning the RUST off my Miter Saw // Sawblade and Bed Cleaning // DIY Tool Maintenance
Переглядів 6 тис.2 роки тому
#mitersaw #tools #woodworking I have had my old craftsman miter saw for over 10 years, and it's been through a lot. Along with dropping it a few times (breaking several crucial parts), the bed also developed some rust on it from being left outside several times. Miter saw metal beds are not typically susceptible to rust, but in this case, the elements and extreme use has left some rust and grim...
Amazing Kid’s Chair Design // Woodworking & DIY
Переглядів 1,5 тис.2 роки тому
#diy #woodworking #carpentry In this video, I build a replica/copy of a kid's chair, the design of which I have never seen before. A very innovative, two-piece design, it's simple and locks into place, but can be put together or come apart in less than 2 seconds! The original owners of the chair are US Air Force veterans whose grandfather used to make these but passed away several years ago, an...

In this video, I perform a full restoration my great-grandmother’s antique New Royal treadle sewing machine manufactured in 1897. Love the grain! Thanks for not “modernizing” it with black!
Great job
Beautiful job
Fantastic. Great talent.

Hope you were able to restore, grease, and oil these wings machine
Any mother would love it.
A friend gave my wife a 1917 Singer last year. I spent 4 months working it over the cabinet ws in much worst condition that your and I spent a lot of time shakiing my head. Your machine turned out great. I like leaving small dents and wear spots on the cabninet as it shows use over 100 years.Knowing the history use those that used it is a great feeling. Thank You for shareing the rebuild with us. Just watch out as a friend brought two Singer over for me to restore. I'm just about ready to put the first one back together. It's a 1892 model and was in good condition. The next one is a 1885 Singer in a walnut cabinet. Just be caareful sewing machines are adictive. It's easy to save them all from the dump. Great job on your treasure.
So far I have resisted the urge to do anymore! 🤞
Реставрация выполнена на совесть.Каждая деталь получила частичку вашей души.А это дорого стоит.Вы великий труженик ,с золотыми руками.Результат восхитителный.Из хлама ,,в шедевр.❤❤❤❤❤
Hi. I’m working on an old tiger oak dry sink table and have a question. Did you first stain with the the dark walnut and then the golden oak on top?
Great video, is that zero clearance insert a custom piece you made or bought or did it come standard with your saw? If you bought it, can you provide the details or link as that’s nice? Thanks
Thanks! That insert was a custom piece for the saw. Just a piece of walnut cut to the size of the original insert.
@@OkieCraftsmanThanks for the quick reply.
You are a wonderful brother, son and grandson to put so much love back into this sewing machine for your sister. I should last another 100 years and you did your family PROUD. Loved watching it.
Thank you!!
My grandmother left me her treadle sewing machine, but the people who cleaned the house for us stole it. I sincerely hope they took care of it! This is a beautiful machine! I am so glad you restored it!!
Sorry yours got stolen! But thank you for your encouraging comment :)
@@OkieCraftsman your restoration was amazing and I was happy to see how much you cared for it.
This turned out gorgeous! You have a new subscriber.
The saw base is made from an alloy, it doesnt rust, it can tarnish and maybe corrode but cant rust. All in all a job well done.
Oh, dont forget to turn it to its full capability both directions to clean and polish the parts of the base hidden under the back rest part.
Personally, I would love some voice over or at least some verbal communication.
Thanks for the feedback!
Awesome 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Very very good. Good work. 👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊🏆🏅🥇👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I've been watching a lot of restoration videos lately as I've inherited my great grandmothers sewing machine from around that same time. Different brand but the cabinet is a dead ringer, and I know I'm going to have to give it some love. I know it worked when they stopped using it, and my mother used to make my school clothes on it when I was a kid.
Great job! Your Grandma is very proud of you. Now, please have someone in your family learn to sew and use her! I own 8 sewing machines. 6 modern electric ones (from new through the 60s) and 2 treadle machines (1930s). The treadles are my favorites!
How old would you guess the piece to be? I have a similar one,but shorter made from English oak that was my grandfather's in England.
Based on the serial number in the New Royal archives, it was manufactured sometime between 1895 and 1901 (the series production timeline).
Do you take on other treadle restoration projects? My grandmother's sewing machine needs restored. I was impressed with your labor of care and love.
Unfortunately I am no longer taking other work to focus on other parts of the business. But thank you!
Very nice
Why did you glue the floating panel?
I just made the decision that I wanted more structural strength for the piece. I’ve had cabinets come apart at the joints with floating panels much quicker than humidity or seasonal changes do when gluing the panels.
I have this same machine! It has been not used in decades and I am unsure where to begin to get the machine functional. You did a beautiful job on the cabinet! I wish you could do this one!
Thank you! I wish you the best in getting yours up and running.
Beautiful

I really want one of these. I've wanted one for decades.
Well done!
We’re those side panels designed to be floating?
Probably. I’ve never been a fan of floating panels though as I’ve had to repair way too many failed joints, and…the sides are major structural components of this piece, so would rather risk wood movement than structure failure. Others might see it differently.
Very well done, very well done indeed.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you! 🙏
December 2023....my wife just showed me something verysimilar to this on Facebook here in the north east of England....for £50....and staring at me said, "NO!" !
😝
Tell me the name of paintings please I have proyect. 🙏
Очень хорошая работа👍👍👍😊
It's beautiful! I'm really glad to find out what that wood is, tiger oak. I have a couple old machines with cabinets that have the same veneer. Thank you for doing this restoration video.
Just beautiful!
Excellent!!
Beautiful restoration.
Amazing restore thank you.
Beautiful wood
Please don't add music in the background when you are speaking. It makes it very difficult to follow the dialogue. Thank you
This machine turned out lovely. The cabinet is wonderful, just think when the power goes out you can still sew by candle light. lol Very nice job restoring this. Have a great day
