      For storage and convenience, I can get by on Linux so I’m not gonna go to all the extra work just for wallpaper engine and a few other niceties. Nothing has come up yet that stops me from doing my work, funnily enough I would actually unlock more access to games by dual booting. Would you say the iPad Air 4 is better than the iPad mini 6

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009 5 днів тому

      Depends on the use case, for me it is. That’s because I need the larger screen for note taking, productivity, video editing and content consumption. Whereas someone who is just playing games, browsing the web and needs a smaller form factor would probably prefer the mini. In the end the performance difference is negligible and Apple still charges a lot for its smallest tablet (it really should’ve received a price cut like the base iPad), so the Air also wins in the value category. Hope that helped

    I have a steamdeck oled and recently got a playstation portal.the portal feels better to hold the dualsense haptic are a nice addition to handheld play.however there is no comparison when it comes to streaming games from the ps5.the oled steamdeck is smooth with no stuttering and next to zero latency.the portal stutters badly and is unplayable I have tried all the portal tips like hardwire ps5,lower resolution etc.i find it ridiculous that a free app on steamdeck is far superior to Sony remote play,Sony need to sort it out ASAP as if the portal ran as smooth as chiaki it would be my preferred way to play.tho Sony being Sony I'm almost certain that they will do nothing to rectify the problem.

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009 8 днів тому

      Oh wow, was expecting you to say the Portal is smoother. They really should have just put android on it, then you’d be able to do other stuff like lighter mobile games or UA-cam/Netflix… or use Chiaki lol. Even if it was smoother it’s still a single use device and I can’t justify spending that much for something that does only one thing. Thanks for the insight, hope you enjoyed the video!

    Hey there! I have a question, for uni. and watching movie-shows yt etc. Which one should i buy; ipad air m2 11" or ipad pro m2 11" (all of them with pencil tho) ? In my country the ipad pro m2 11" is 5k more than new ipad air so which one is better for long term? New ipad is 2 years younger and it will be get more updated that's the two reason im stuck with it: m2 pro price and update stuff... 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009 11 днів тому

      Thanks for watching, if you’re going to be using it for studying and watching shows I’d say the M2 iPad Air is enough. However if you are trying to save money and willing to go refurbished, the M1 iPad Pro is a great option. The M1 Pro is better than the M2 Air in every way except for being slightly slower (not noticeable when making notes, watching movies etc) and it uses the Gen 2 pencil (however I think it won’t make a difference since hover and barrel roll are artist features and aren’t really useful when note taking). Hope that helped

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009 12 днів тому

      Yep, Apple is incredibly stubborn when it comes to certain things. One of them being that if a feature has “pro” in the name, it means the device has to have “pro” in the name. It’s a sad day for iPad mini fans, poor thing didn’t even get a price drop like the base iPad.

    • @shApYT
      @shApYT 12 днів тому

      @@salocin9009 At least it'll give people the confidence to go and buy the 2021 iPad on the used market without worry. Knowing that the new mini won't have anything other than a faster processor, which they can't fully utilize because of the toy operating system, and a new pen that only works with new expensive iPads.

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009 12 днів тому

      @@shApYT That’s true, still I wish they had bumped it up to at least A16. The iPad is currently using a 4 year old iPhone chip with not enough RAM to future proof it, at least in my experience with it safari tabs frequently need to reload and any apps that aren’t currently on screen get kicked from memory. Although I’m using it for uni, anyone using it purely for content consumption and games with probably get by just fine.

      Weird, I haven’t experienced any fan noise when remote playing on the Deck since Chiaki4deck is soo easy to run. I only notice it when I’m playing a really demanding game and even then it’s not that loud, I know different steam decks have different fans so maybe I got lucky. No fan noise would be perfect but that’s the cost of greater performance I guess. @str8outtadade783 21 день тому

    The Steam Deck is amazing and of course, a better overall device. It's a valid option as a remote player but it's not better than the portal, the weight, mechanics, the screen and ease of use make it better. Comparing the additional features isn't really fair their two very different devices at two different price points. I do think Sony needs to ease up and allow us to get more functionality out of it. If all you want is PS game on the go the portal is better for that.

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009 20 днів тому

      I agree that the Portal beats out the Steamdeck when strictly comparing remote play capabilities, even then Steamdeck has the ability to output to a monitor and run full discord at the same time so depending on what you value the Steamdeck may come out on top if you only want remote play. I think the portal is a good product but in many cases you’ll already have a good enough option in your inventory, already owning a Steamdeck is one of those cases imo.

If you can go used then get a certified refurbished M1 iPad Pro since Apple replaces almost everything in their refurbished products to the point where they’re basically good as new. HOWEVER, I would advise waiting till the Apple event in a couple of days on May 7th as we are almost definitely getting new iPads. If you like any of the new ones get those, if not the old ones will be discounted. Hope that helped!

    Uninstalling apps installed from the appstore will leave residual data in the "~/.var/app" directory, but there is an app that clears this data called "Flatsweep" that finds the residual data and deletes it for you. This doesn't work as well for things installed by other apps like Lutris or Heroic, as those can use directories outside of "~/.var/app", however, using a custom directory for those things like "~/Games" or "~/Applications" can help with manually working with those files. A thing I've found out recently, is that SteamOS does not have the ability to print documents. It just doesn't come with the "talk to printer stuff" installed, but if fixing that is something you're interested in, I do have a simple fix!

      I believe so but it might be more than that since I am able to read and write files on it, just some movies won’t show up or I can’t rename something. It’s odd and I can’t reformat the drive cause there’s a lot of stuff I don’t want to lose on it.

    Neat to see someone using SteamDeck as a main desktop. Actually interesting to see but looks like some of the Valve additions to the OS workflow are making it easier to use it for first time Linux users than some other distros, but those same implementations are making it harder to understand how Linux does some things. And of course nice to see some fresh perspectives about starting to use Linux as a main device. To enlighten you about the software installation a bit, the reason why the .exe and image files don't work quite right is because that is not the intended way of how software is done in Linux in the first place. You used the KDE app store a bit there which is a GUI solution, but generally the way these things are done is through terminal by downloading packages from repositories via a package manager. And you can uninstall software the same way, which is essentially just deleting the files, but the package manager saves you the trouble of physically finding them and deleting them manually. Overall I'd suggest getting familiar with the package management system on Linux as that will make managing software easier down the line. A bit more about modding on games: yeah it's a pain on Linux to do, agreed. Not unexpected because you are effectively trying to do something intended to be done on Windows but on Linux instead, but that understanding doesn't reduce the frustration it can cause. But you can actually mod most games to the same end result as on Windows as long as they can be modded in the first place, it's just way more work and often requires launch conditions like the Wine .dll wrapper.

      @salocin9009 Місяць тому

      Ok, thanks for the insight. I was lost for a bit, flatpacks seemed to work best if I couldn’t find it in the AppStore and now I know why. And yeah in terms of modding it seems like it’s as I thought, possible but difficult at times.

How does the SD fare when it comes to productivity like printing, photo/video editing (although I know there are linux alternatives to editing programs) and generally how "natural" does it feel to be used as a productivity device? Personally I'm planning to use it obviously as my main gaming rig but since I live with my girlfriend and she's in college, I'll also be letting her use it for school stuff.

Note that the Steam Deck always tries to boot from the internal NVMe, so you must start the Deck using the Boot Manager.
