Alkali metals in water, accurate!
Переглядів 3,1 млн15 років тому
For anyone who insists it is fake, ua-cam.com/video/5aD6HwUE2c0/v-deo.html and stop giving me a headache. Watch to the end for the best (Cesium!)! A wonderful representation of the alkali metals and their accurate reactivity with water. unlike brainiac, who did infact use explosives in their episode for rubidium and cesium. Very worth a watch. All credit for this video goes to the makers of phy...
CESIUM RULES
very gud very well
"Now let's try it with Francium" *SIGNAL LOST*
Thank you for making this video!
Remember watching this in chemistry class ages ago. Could have sworn they threw the tongs at the shattered dish after it blew up.
watching this video for school right now
Bruh the quality
Totally not because this was posted 15 years ago
This video is a certified hood classic
Bang!
imagine if he did this with francium💀
What is that bowl used for testing the reactions of the alkali metals called?
How the hell did I not know of this? :P
How about reactions of halogens and water? How vigorously do flourine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine react with water?
They don't tend to react very vigorously at all except for fluorine because fluorine gives no shits at all. They mostly just dissolve and create a solution of halogen acids or oxyacids . Chlorine for example reacts to produce hydrochloric acid HCL(aq) and hypochlorous acid HClO
The reason is mostly that ionic compounds have a property called lattice energy which makes them highly thermodynamically favorable (they lose a lot of energy) while molecular compounds don't. Its why metal oxide and halide salts are pretty much invariably solid at room temperature and are hard and brittle while molecular compounds like methane and water tend to be liquids or gas.
@@tylermaritz1701 How does fluorine react with water? Or the other mentioned halogens?
@@joepeters4032Fluorine seems to be the only one that's highly exothermic. It's also different in that while it does form an oxyacid (hypofluorous acid) It is incredibly unstable. Thus due to its electronegativity it instead prefers to rip all the hydrogens off of the oxygen atoms and forms oxygen gas and ozone as well as hydrofluoric acid. The rest pretty much all react weakly with iodine like chlorine forming a haloacid (hydroiodic acid) and an oxyacid (hypoiodous acid) . Bromine acts the same forming hydrobromic acid and hypobromous acid. With chlorine and bromines reactions being spontaneous and Iodines being fairly endothermic so it needs to absorb a bit of heat. I can try to pull exact values for you but it could take a day or 2
Should I show this to my science teacher to show to my clads
Me eating something that has potassium and drinking water right after:🔥🧨🧨
Airplanes in 2050: Sorry, no Sodium-Ion Batteries allowed
Wow time flies i watched this video in my school the same year it was uploaded. Unfortunately i took 14 years to get my recognition of like so here we go ,you earned it. 👍
next is franc-
One of my favourite UA-cam videos of all time, bar none.
What a scam they never did Francium
how do you miss the pinned comment
I appreciated the dead pan delivery and comedic timing of events throughout 🧐🧐
Yuck
“let’s try caesium, our 5th alkali metal.” *Famous last words*
That wasn’t cesium, that was a grenade.
The cesium at the end makes me laugh every single time.
“As we go down the list, things gradually become more terrifying.” Lol
And the reaction with Francium? Explosion of the laboratory?
They showed us this video in high school chemistry, back in the 90's!
1:08 2Li + 2H2O → 2LiOH + H2 A bit uneventful 1:20 2Na + 2H2O → 2NaOH + H2 Na, it's starts to creep up 1:46 2K + 2H2O → 2KOH + H2 It's gettin' spectacular 1:56 2Rb + 2H2O → 2RbOH + H2 Most terrifying yet? 2:18 2Cs + 2H2O → 2CsOH + H2 RIP Container 2009-2009
love the whistle at the end
กฤษฎา 3/4 เลขที่1 โลหะหมู่1 ใส่ลงไปในน้ำทำให้เกิดการระเบิด
ตุลยวัต ศรีถ่า เกิดการระเบิด
Wooowww
I love how it just ends abruptly after the cesium explodes
Fireworks
👹😳💀😐🙉
Nurten hocadan gelenler beğensin
yo this is cool
I think its what we call explosive reaction
Let's try Fr… To be continued
i'm just here for my chemistry class
I am from Cambrian public school
"This time, we put a safety screen between us and the reaction." Yes, but what about your hand?
Francium is so rare and expensive that they didn't even pretend to make it react with water :)
cause they are cheap and phonie
I remember watching this in year 10, about 19 years ago, and the reaction with caesium and water still gives me the giggles!
My chemistry teacher showed us this in 10th grade and we all cracked up when the guy went "Now, let's try caesium." *BANG*
@
Good work.... Am right behind you sir
Francium be like hold water for me
Just missed the next line: "And that seems like a good place to stop our experimentation with alkali metals."
