    Wow, I knew the Minitmoog and the Satellite were built to compete with the ARP Pro Soloist. I wasn’t conscious that either of them also included a similar aftertouch control. Recently, I learned that the Pro Soloist’s keyboard was the same type of digital scanning keyboard used in the first 3 Oberheim synthesizers, but was it also utilized on this model?

    I cannot believe you aren’t producing new content. You are basically the original version of love hulten. So maybe this idea I’ve been cooking up will convince you to pick back up your soldering iron. Love hulten built a synth that was based on the braun wall unit. But for some reason he didn’t follow any of the design aesthetics except the wall mount concept. But so much more can be done and I think it would result in the most beautiful synth ever produced. Here’s the idea. Two speakers flanking an fm/am radio based modular synthesizer. Multiple analog tuners, filters, mixers, and effects. With the frequency tuning dial taking center stage of the synth. Next to the synth is a tape reel machine modified to work as a tape effect unit, tape echo, tape flanger, tape chorus, tape sequencer, and tape sampler. Modified to work with midi and cv stuff. Under this is a turntable modified to work with midi and cv. Able to use as a sampler or a sequencer, as well as dj scratching. Directly under this is a slide out keyboard that completes the synth. In essence it becomes an extremely overkill and gorgeous mellotron. However it would actually be a braunotron. You already have a radio based drum synth. This idea can be expanded into a full fledged polyphonic modular synth. Tape machines have long been used as effect units. And finally there are already midi controlled turntables which people can use as samplers and sequencers. And you’re directly known for your melloman using Walkman units. I feel like you are obviously the perfect person to make something like this. Please make my dream come true. And if I could help you build and design this it would be an even bigger dream come true. Haha

    Great video and amazing job on the keyboard, ppl write me all the time asking me for a keyboard or the measurements so they can build their own. The synth sound - I can’t remember that on mine at all - did you add that somehow or could it be unique to a certain batch of machines?

      Thank you! Good catch on the Synth sound. It's actually a fun bonus I found when I worked on the first one back in 2005. There are four octaves of square waves available on the Bass board, and I have them routed to a 4 way rotary switch. It's a hot signal, so needs attenuation. I also found a way to manually engage the drum roll. Feel free to email me and I can send you details! mike @ mysterycircuits.com

    AMAZING! Now... I was wondering if you could make a 4 octave Melloman by using both L and R channels AND the reverse. Or simply use 2 channels and not use the reverse, for a simplified version of the 2 octave Melloman.

    • @mysterycircuits
      @mysterycircuits 2 роки тому

      Hey! Sorry, just now seeing this. Yes, you could certainly use all 4 tracks for two more octaves. On the two that I built, I used the L and R for two octaves, and put another sound on the B side. I built something else about 12 or 13 years ago that uses all 4 tracks to make a programmable drum machine. It's called the Drumssette.

      Hey! Sorry, I just saw this. I always thought they wouldn't work without a keyboard, until I saw some that did. The one I modified in 2019 was working without a keyboard, though just the drum machine part. Look at my website mysterycircuits.com and find the Wilgamat pages. I think all walkmans are playing non-stop and the keys only open the sound channel's gate to let the note/tape be heard. If the tape were to start when the key is pressed then we'd hear the tape's recording quickly ramping up in speed/pitch; which would be a cool idiosyncrasy but it would be a rarely desired one.
