I was invited to join this celebration after photographing the wedding of the Headmans daughter, a friend of many years. Lahu people are lovely just like other Hilltribes I have been involved with. I was made to feel very welcome.

You wouldn't catch me Dead manning the Foc'sle in that kind of weather. ⚓⚓.
My workplace 71 to 73
Long after shore leave was granted …. The stokers and chippies onboard …. Some of who may know me :) …. Connected shore lines … and shut down the vaps,t’gs, main engines and boilers … cheers to those I sailed with on the other two DDG’s :) Didn’t we have some fun ….:) shhh !
Shoulda come in at 1 Zulu then called all hands to Clear lower decks for berthing what a beautiful Sydney day to come home :)
Shoulda come in at 1 Zulu then called all hands to Clear lower decks for berthing
Bet that was a hell of a ride
I never had the honour of serving onboard the Hobart … 2 years onboard the Brisbane and 4 yrs onboard the Perth … The day my chief chippy at Kuttabul told me I was late to join the Brisbane … I was adrift !!! Little smn mt … I’ll Always look back at my words …. “ your fucking kidding me …“ as priceless … I didn’t regret it nor all the yrs with or on the most kick ass class of DDG’s … 3 days after i joined Brisbane at the anchored ‘bomb ‘ dock to fill the magazines … we sailed for NZ …
Great video bit emotional for sure
Whats with the overalls? I remember the #8s AWD. I loved serving on the Hobart. Now i get to visit as a veteran scuba diver. Go the Green Ghost of the Vietnam Coast!
Hi All Do you know if Eric Madsen was onboard for these last runs
I was on DDG 14 the Buchanan in '71 during Vietnam. The Adam's class was a huge step up from the Gearing class I previously served on. The galley and mess deck were together on the same deck. Great advantage for the cooks. Hot food had to go down a narrow ladder to the serving line on the Gearing.
Is it any wonder we look back at what we did with a mixture of pleasure and awe?
My best times in the pus was on this grand old lady, fond memories.
Played volleyball against you guys in sasebo Japan, and drank all of your Victoria bitters,we lost the game 😅
The HMAS Hobart is the bravest fighting ship we on the USS Blue had the honor of sailing with during Operation Sea Dragon 1967-68. While under counter battery fire from NVA shore guns she turned into our and the USS St Paul’s wakes to lay a smoke and radar chafe screens.
I remember going aboard her when she was brand new as a kid, and Dad went to Vietnam on her as well on the gun line...
The last of the Aussie destroyers that looked mean and intimidating.
I was an FTG aboard your American sister DDG-21 USS Cochrane. I worked in gunplot on the radar and computer that controlled the guns. I love that you captured the Amplydyne/Motor whine of Mount 51. I'll never forget that sound.
I was on Hobart ‘82 to ‘84. We once raced a Daring (Vamps or Vendetta, don’t remember which) from JB to GI with the winner getting the West dock wall berth, loser having to tie up at the oil wharf. We cheated and upped anchor early and legged it as fast as our props could go. Unbelievable, feeling your whole body shake with the ships vibrations at top speed, whilst watching the Daring cruise past us like she hadn’t even raised a sweat. Needless to say at the end of the race we tied up at the oil wharf!
My grandfather served on the WW2 Hobart , I did naval cadets but joined the Army .
It was a good day.
Four years of my life on that pretty ship, from cyclone Tracy, around the world tour, nearly getting hit by an Ikara from Stuart and an EVAC of some SAS boys during the Saigon storming by the NVA. Fun Times never forgotten. Vale Hobart
10:25 What's the Blue & White Sign?
Gongless Chiefs.... Never seen that before
02 war canoe or the love boat... ❤️
The flag ship.. sail on to fair winds sailors .
Is that music coming from the ships overhead?
The Charles F Adams Class, missile guided Destroyer are truly one of the greatest type of surface warship that has ever built.
I was on Hobart 1990-1993, did RIMPAC '92 and actually had the pleasure of launching an SM-1 missile

When the gauges all read red, 4 boilers at 1275 (psi) Auto, keeps you "nice and snug" down the hole.
The most beautiful ships the Navy ever bought.
It isn't the "turbines" that are "screaming".... it is the gearing. Steam turbines are relatively quiet.
That vessel should have been kept in a reserve fleet
amazing difference between the roll of the DDG without stabilisers and the FFG with active stabilisers!
Thanks for sharing. Adams Class were certainly grand ships. I served aboard USS Semmes DDG 18, 1968-70 as Quartermaster.
Any more to come Mick? Love to see more of 2 fire. Fark I miss my time on ddgs. Huge mistakes in life, but getting out of pussers was my biggest.
Remember the open days at Station Pier as a little boy. It was so exciting to go on the Navy ships.
I served on Hobart in 83,84,and 85 as her Chief Coxswain and I still have great memories of her. She was a brilliant ship. GO NASVY, GO HOBART
I just toll the Bell (8 🔔 End of the watch)here at home in honor of these SAILORS!
Cold War ships were always the most Beautiful.
Remembering the TukTuk ride home lol
Remembering our outing years ago. Cant find you on facebook now. Lance tells me you are in hospital?

At first you hate them, then you deal with them and finally as you age you miss them and your days of being Sailors. We were Sailors tall and proud.
Take all battle stops out and hit 40.
Had two Aussies in my Mk-13 Missile Launcher class in 1985 who went to this ship!! I went to the USS Cochrane DDG21
¿ The Frigate Chilean Navy FF-05 Admiral Cochrane type 23 Iron Duke ? 🤔
A total bastard working in the laundry during speed runs. But great ships. Great engine and boiler rooms, and a great crew at that time. Ex MTP S128..., HMAS Hobart. 1980/81
