    And today (Dec. 22, 2020) marks the 35th anniversary of d. Boone’s death at the age of 27 in a traffic accident. The axel fell off of his van while he was resting in the back. For punk rock in Los Angeles, that is the day the music died. Mike Watt did amazing work with fIREHOSE (and other bands) after that, but it definitely broke a part of his heart forever.

    The Minutemen were the most intelligent band from the SoCal scene. I can't think of any other band from that era that could unplug and still sound so tight (and great) as a unit.

    If you're to ask me, Part of it is because they just don't fit in with the "Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame". Quite frankly, The Minutemen aren't quite "Famous" Outside certain circles even though they're appreciated by musicians - Similar to the Flat Duo Jets, And that band has fewer fans (That I know of) even though Jack White likes them. It's almost as if some of the most influential and sincere bands are unpopular among most high school kids. But what do I know? I just listen to music.

    Weird that you'd say that since Metallica, at least early in their career, dabbled very much in what most would consider left-wing politics. Some doomsday environmentalist posturing in songs like "Blackened." That said, Minutemen were much more intelligent about it.

    @mikewines68 because they didn't make any money for anyone. Grammy's, Hall of fame, any kind of "distinguished award for that matter, is just a celebration of the generation of revenue. I think the Minutemen were kind of the antithesis to that. And I'd be disappointed if they were in that BS institution.

  • @LeeDavisHomeOffice
    @LeeDavisHomeOffice 14 років тому

    @mikewines68 Because you're never rewarded for sticking to your guns - only for the Grand Sellout (and don't get me wrong, early Metallica is STILL the shit) - but if their not being in the rock and roll hall of fame is the price we have to pay for some of the best and realest music ever made, then so be it. What you do is support Mike and George in whatever they're choosing to do now. If you love them, help contribute to the place that gave them their break - SST records, and PLAY IT ALL!
