Had good morning whipping some flies. Was able to get a handful of Omilus including a nice 4ish pounder which snapped the tip off of my SPX PE1 rod…Smh

Had some luck on my side today. Was able to get into it with a handful of Omilus and even ran into a Tako (Octopus). The guy I ran into on the reef and gave the Tako to turned out to be a childhood friend, Braddah Ben. He was whipping flies also and he was able to hook a couple of nice Omilus including one that looked close to 10lbs. The Omilus were definitely out today.

Operation “Catch Omilu” heads to my old childhood playground. A spot where as kids we would ride our bikes to and fish, dive, surf and swim. Today proved that after all these years this spot can still provide some action Cheeee!!! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

You should make that wire setup for the bubble and sell them. Those would sell well at J Hara and S Tokunaga on the Big Island.
Nice I’m going to be there for a week got any spots you recommend to catch big gt and other fish ?
Remove the tape. Drill a small hole near the top, use a hot glue gun until it bubbles out. It will last longer. Good luck

@skainoa I use stainless steel instead of the 20 ga. Also 10 mm acrylic beads as a noise maker and protect the bubble from your crimps
@@Spanish_mack-770 That’s 20 gauge stainless steel wire. Wouldn’t think of using any other wire than ss in salt water. Lol
@skainoa try the hot glue trick. It cast further than water and won't break when you hit rocks
@@Spanish_mack-770 Everything you can do to a tough bubble I’ve tried. Filled it with resin, bb’s, glow resin powder, polyurethane, glitter, stickers…the list goes on…I always go back to just using water. I don’t know, I just run the wire through and fill it with water and it’s been working. Check out my videos🤙🏽

bra what technique did you employ there to get omilu off the reef? please detail look like you opened bail for a second....how successful have u been when doing that? that was sweet!!
Yeah…when she gets snagged on the reef I release the bail and let out a little bit of line. The fish doesn’t feel the tension and swims back up giving the line a chance to untangle from the reef. That’s my theory anyway. Lol

Is the one glove for grabbing the fish better?
Mainly for casting purposes. I use braided line and it can cut your finger when casting. It also helps when grabbing the fish. Lol

Both are productive for me but I fish mainly early mornings. I fish before the sun comes up and get strikes throughout the morning.
unk why not braid to swivel above hammerbomb why extra knot ,extra line.straight braid to swivel to bubble then 3ft 15lb mono.sf style!!
It’s a short rub line. Sometimes the bubble gets hung up on the reef. Also, if I wanted to switch to a lure I just remove the bubble and attach a lure. Rub line is already spliced to the main line (braid).

Mahalo!!! With this setup on the fly 15lbs Omilu. Took a lot of big strikes with this setup and it can handle the fight but eventually the fish gets reefed and cuts my line.
