Oystercatcher ATTACK !
Переглядів 4121 годину тому
I didn't publish this attack on UA-cam back in July 2024, but on reflection I thought it was worth another look. I was flying at Queensberry Bay, Powfoot and was heading out high into the Solway to inspect the local seal family. In the original video it was all over in a flash but when slowed down to 1/8 speed you can see that my mini-drone was very lucky to get back home in one piece 😱

Bowness on Solway and Solway Viaduct

From the Annan shore we Scots look across at Bowness on Solway. Like many locals from the Scotland side my Grandfather crossed the Solway using the old Viaduct bridge and visited Bowness from Newbie every Sunday. I decided to nip across the Solway and visit this special place that attracted many so Scots on a Sunday. Backing: Kashmir (Led Zeppelin) cover by Karolina.

Bowness Viaduct of the Solway Junction Railway
Переглядів 1,2 тис.4 місяці тому
The Solway Junction Railway was built in 1865 to carry Iron Ore and ran from Kirtlebridge to Kirkbride. The difficult part was of course crossing the Solway Firth 😱 The first sod was cut in Annan where a public holiday had been declared, "a great day for Annan, and Annan did its best to make it memorable." 🎈🍻🥂🎉 It is thought that the large sandstone blocks used for both North and South embankme...

Nice video
Is this a drone
Yes 👍
Cool
How does one get there to visit this sacred site? Those people who killed that sacred tree should be prosecuted their names and faces made public.
I use to visit this tree with my farther when I was a lad can’t wait to revisit!!
Sad to hear this tree was felled last night.
About 80 years ago, my Dad (who grew up in Annan) accidentally set fire to Rabbit Island. I moved to Annan just over two weeks ago... I'm going to go and check it out. Great video.
Recently excavated by Archaeologists and thousands of Lead slingshot bullets found, I managed to buy a couple.
Thank you for the memories, S V. The following extract from Wikipedia may help subscribers' and viewers' understanding of this hallowed place. Stay free. Rab 🍻 😎 🕊 Burnswark Hill, to the east of the A74(M) between Ecclefechan and Lockerbie in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, sits prominently in the landscape. Its rich history has been a consistent source of archaeological interpretation for generations. The most recent active archaeological research, undertaken by the Trimontium Trust, has furthered the understanding of the site narrative in respect of the apparent relationship between the local population and occupying Roman forces. Burnswark Hill (also known as Birrenswark) represents succinct and prominent geological evidence of the interruption of sediment deposition by lava eruption followed by basalt flows. This geological activity from the Carboniferous period ensured that 300 million years later, the location would provide an ideal site for the strategic positioning of an Iron Age hillfort, one that in this instance measures an enclosed area of approximately 7ha. The Iron Age hillfort, clearly observable in the landscape, is accompanied by evidence of an earlier Bronze Age burial cairn, Roman camps and potential fortlet, enclosures dated to the medieval period, a possible Civil War battery, and an Ordnance Survey triangulation station. The site is commanding and impressive, its history complex and intriguing. R 👋
PS. The following Wikipedia data is useful. Much more information to be found on that and other websites. All the best. Is it possible to visit this location. What are the logistics
Hi, here is some info I found which might be useful. thirdeyetraveller.com/sycamore-gap-walk-northumberland/ The National Trust own the site & you would need permission nowadays for drone filming. I did this video many years ago before the current tighter drone regulations. It's a great spot but nearly an hour's walk from the Steel Rigg carpark.
The circular stone feature is no longer there, I was at this location recently
Sorry to hear that, wonder what happened to it.
@@solwayvideos No idea, it's there in Prince of thieves and in other drone videos up until 2019 then no more. I was at the tree last week and no sign of it. Very weird indeed.
Where is this place, looks amazing, I need to get out and camp at places like this
Sorry for delay, Sandyhills SW Scotland. g.co/kgs/tG5Qkc
Interesting video, thanks
Cheers 👍
Unfortunately there’s a big section missing from the end of the park up to the weir.

Love this 👍🏻🏴
What about pushing the Scottish assembly for some funds to develop Annan harbour.
Beautiful scenery!
Thanks yes, it was filmed very early before anyone was on the wall.
RIP
Indeed, madness! @@MiscPractice
I used to live there , my parents used to work the farm there, in the late seventies, early eighties x
Its a fantastic place full of history
I love that place
Yes, if you get the weather it reminds me of Portugal :)
Un aereo elettrico fa il rumore della turbina jet reale ???? Fake.
Well spotted, yes the sound is from a Typhoon, but it does sound good though :)

Many thanks for your comments: beauty!!!!!! inside to look more
soon be ready for the Coasters to arrive.
I was reading that Powfoot even had its own railway halt for the hoped for tourist traffic or more likely the nitrocellulose plant.
Fab video, never realised it was sooo big! Xx
Did you need to get permission to fly here?
hyphen aerial photography Hi, I took the footage sometime ago before drone regulations were tightened. See the below FAQ's about the current rules. www.nts.org.uk/Site/FAQ/
Fished it many times !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it still worth a cast or have the salmon buggered off?
Strange that I can still watch your videos from Brisbane, presumably because I subscribe? That was a bit of an 'oops" landing, though!
cool Who
What an excellent video! Living, as I used to, in Cummertrees, I recognised every scene in the video, although not the viewpoints, since I've never flown over the area!
Hi, would i be able to use a few clips of this in a video? I'd credit you obviously!
Sorry for the late reply, just noticed your comment. Yes no problem use any clips as you wish, just for interest please send me a link to anything you publish.
Haha, don't worry, I actually found another clip to use being as this was a while ago, but thankyou!
Wow great shots of the Castle, well done.
Love watching this video, Great shots
I like this one Jamie....I think flyovers of castles give you a good idea of how they sit in the landscape... How about a one of Hermitage Castle or maybe Sweetheart Abbey ?
Hi Bob, flyover castle requests, nice new idea :) Been checking maps and Hermitage Castle should be fine but Sweetheart Abbey is a bit close to public road and other properties.
The videos you film with the remote control machine are excellent! They show 'familiar' locations in an entirely new light!
Many thanks for the +ve feedback :)
+Solway Videos On the contrary, many thanks to you for posting videos which bring back such 'happy' memories!
A brilliant view of the course where I 'tried' to learn to play golf some 50 years ago! Nice to see it in video!
Classy. How d'you do it? With a drone? Did you dissolve before you got to the Blue Bridge? I saw The Jubilee Bridge but not the one I used to jump off as a kid. Many happy memories of walks up the River Annan to Rabbit Island; and playing wide games around there with the 1st Annan Scouts.
Hi thanks for the comment, glad it brought back some happy memories. Yes it was my TBS discovery drone using the Yi camera. Luckily I managed to stay out of the water, pity but I ran out of batteries so couldn't video the Cuthbertson Memorial Bridge (blue bridge).
We've done that walk many times with the dog; I never knew it was called Rabbit Island. Thanks for posting
It's changed a wee bit since I last 'played' it (in the mid 60s), but it's still recognisable!
Great Video Jamie - glorious weather as well. I can't believe how quick the biplane is.
Ah, I recognise Lakeview and the fishermen's cottages oin rhe background here!
In fact, given that I lived for 23 years within a couple of miles of here, I recognise every view in this video!
The buzzard was (just) visible at 3.00 odd, but I suspect it was merely curious as to what this 'strange' bird was! It certainly didn't seem to exhibit any aggressive intent!
That shows just how 'out of touch' I am with what's going on in the Annan area! (I left Cummertrees in 1972 and my parents moved from there to Dumfries shortly thereafter!). Thank you for replying to my query, Ron Leitch.
When was the footbridge over the river beside the Railway Viaduct, erected?
When was the footbridge erected beside the railway viaduct over the River Annan?
The metal footbridge to Newbie has been there for a few years now, maybe even ten at a guess.
I haven't seen scenes like that since 1963 (I think), when the Low Road was blocked and the School Bus couldn't make it out to Cummertrees to bring us in to the Academy! Beautiful video - thank you for posting it!
Rained today, all snow gone :(
+Solway Videos That doesn't surprise me in the slightest! We got our first sprinkling of snow in South East London yesterday morning but it had vanished by lunchtime!
Jamie - Flying over water again...it will end in tears😪😪😪... Annan looks tidy with a bit of snow...could be in Switzerland😊
Hi Bob, yes gets the old heart going when u fly over water ;)
Excellent well done !!
Thank you! An excellent coverage of my 'former' home area!
