5th gen Laramie interior swap into a 3rd gen ram
Переглядів 14 тис.8 місяців тому
Here's a quick video of my 3rd gen 6.7 cummins with a 5th gen Laramie dash and seats out of a 2021 ram 2500 megacab.
Good explanation
@@JesusRamirez-o8o 👍
Great build!! How did u get the fenders to line up with the doors?
@@nickbliekendaal8967 Thanks and a lot of sculpting. I used a doner truck and piled a ton of joint compound on it. Once it dried I sculpted it with a grinder, files, and sandpaper. Then I fiberglassed it to make the new panels
About how much this cost lol ?
@@lawdtjr19 It cost me around $6,000 for all of the interior parts. I sourced all of the parts on ebay and the freight was included in that $6,000.
Nice how much the front end swap cost ?
@@lawdtjr19 I'm in around $2,000 in the front end. Thats just in parts. I did all of the work myself.
@ awesome !
@lawdtjr19 👍
Haha, looks crazy but awesome!😂 Love it! Just curious as to why you didn't go with like a black package Laramie headlight or something.
@@ambassador1776 Thank you and I like the look of the chrome halogen housing. I'm thinking of swapping to a laramie or alpha rex style later though. The LEDs I have in the current housing are to bright and give people an X-Ray at night.
Has anyone else done this yet or still just you? I have a g56 truck so how much of this would change to swap, I know I would have to do a remote shifter in the console but would that make the column easier?
@@wavyshores2146 So far as I know I'm the only one. Having a manual you wouldnt have to do all the cutting into column to clear a column shifter like I did. You would probably still have to trim the base of the plastic column cover near the instrument cluster though as it does come into contact with the dash.
That front end looks like a toyota tundra
Dude this is insane I was gonna do a 4th gen but looks awesome
@@ThatDamnE36 Thank you 👍
Badass man good work. Im inspired lol. Im gonna make it happen now. Thanks for the hard work and how to video
@@timcorwin1848 No problem man 👍
What year is that 5th gen bumper❓️
@@yeppyyehti4111 It's off of a 2021 ram 2500, but all of the 5th gen HD bumpers should be the same from 2019 to 2024.
I love the attention to detail as a 3rd gen owner and I live in Co I appreciate how clean the bed is I love the interior
@@ericdavis9992 Thank you and it sure is a pain keeping these things clean in Colorado between all the salt CDOT puts down and the crazy weather.
These videos are sick man keep it up 🔥
Also I’m your 100th sub
@@4real4real4real Much appreciated man. I dont upload often, but I do when I finish a new part of the build. Thank you for the sub. 👍
Looks awsome!, do you know if the seats of a 2022 1500 fit a 2007 2500?
@allengutierrez5635 Thank you and the new style cab 1500 seats will not fit without fabricating some new brackets.
Badass, sucks you didn't swap the cluster and other electronics. I haven't tried but i believe you could use the 5th gen HVAC box in the third gen.
@@SteedDolan I didn't dare try to play with that mess of electronics. I'm no electrical expert so this was the route for me. As for the HVAC, it was pretty simple to fab up some new ducts. I realized your the one I had seen make the 5th gen instrument cluster function in a 3rd gen so I'm sure you know the complexity. As far as I know there's only one other person I've seen on the internet trying to get all of the 5th gen electronics to work in a 3rd gen.
@@MRVConcepts The issue in your case to swap the cluster isn't making it work. Making it work is easy. The 3rd gen cluster is also the interior BCM. The cluster controls the door locks and a couple other little things. If you swap the cluster, you won't be able to lock the doors without making a door lock controller. Which is why I picked up a 2021 Cab. My goal is to swap the entire interior over, hopefully make the keyless entry, push button ect work. What i am trying to decide now is if i want to use the BCM or convert the BCM over and keep my TIPM.
@@SteedDolan Thats definitely beyond my scope of knowledge. Thats going to be awesome when its all together though.
@@MRVConcepts Alot of it is trial and error. I initially was just going to swap the dash, then i started thinking the HVAC box would bolt up even though the lines are different. Then I saw a complete cab on facebook and went full retard. Only thing that sucks is its a crew and not a mega so i still need to find parts.
@@MRVConcepts Did you try to use the A Pillars? Or see if the HVAC box bolts up?
Where you located how much if I got interior
@@Chieffreeman94 I'm in southern Colorado, but I don't do these conversions. There is a lot of cutting and custom work involved that I don't feel comfortable doing to somebody elses truck. Thanks for asking though.
I can see what you saw my dad has a 3rd gen quad cab 6.7 and I have a 4thgen quad 1500 and sat in the shop eyed them for a while I just gave up and said it could work😂
nice upgrade
Thanks!
That truck looks mean as hell man good job 👍
@@Ahhhshutup Much appreciated man.
I can see the hard work put into this build but it’s throwing me off in a good way. It’s interesting and unique. It’s tricking my brain because it’s got 1500 design on an HD mega cab.
@@mrkaiman3052 Thank you. I wanted to build something different. Everybody has the same build these days.
Same lol
Nice dude! Great job on the interior!🔥💯
@@JacobRhodes314 Much appreciated man. 👍
I’m currently in the works of doing this to my 3g however I’m “attempting” to do a fully functional 5g dash with all 5g components it’s been A LOT of wiring due to having to solder & splice the 3g harness to the 5g harness but looks good man I’ll be doing this exact setup tho if I can’t get all the 5g electronics to work.
@@RJayde5.9I was wondering how your conversion was going. I saw your build on Tiktok a few months ago when I finished mine. Its definetly a job to get this done. There was no way I was going to try to make the 5th gen stuff work. As far as I know, you and I are the only ones that have attempted this. I wasnt able to find anything to help when I did mine so it was trial and error untill it finally went together. Good luck with yours and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
@@MRVConcepts will do, I’m currently putting my 3g dash back in with the 5g seats & 5g center console for the meantime while I finish the harness, i don’t even know if it’ll work when I plug it in but only one way to find out once I finish it.
@RJayde5.9 The harness scared me when I took it out and reconnected everything. I know very little about wiring so I was hoping I didn't cripple my truck when I did it.
@@MRVConcepts yeah, I bought a 2nd 07 dash harness to put into my truck so hopefully it works when I button it up this weekend 😂 then back to the grind or splicing 2 harnesses together… I’m not an electrical engineer, shit sucks having to label every wire but all data definitely helps to find what each pin/ connector does. My biggest fear is the can+ & can- signal wires.
@@RJayde5.9 Yeah I have no clue when it comes to that stuff.
Hey dude love the way the outside sits. Those 24x12 on what size lift? 3 inch leveling kit?
@@usertra17 Much appreciated. I have a 2.5 inch APOC Industries leveling spacer and an APOC Industries adjustable track bar. She looks level, but still sits about an inch lower in the front.
@@MRVConceptsthey’re 24x12 wheels?
@@usertra17 They are Hardcore Offroad 24x12's on 33x13.5r24 Predator New Mutants. Its got a 2.5 inch leveling spacer and adjustable track bar from APOC Industries. It doesn't look like it, but the front is still a little lower than the back.
Looks fantastic! Wish there was a way to improve the door panels in these trucks.
@@608_diesel Much appreciated and I have an idea for those, just not sure if its going to work yet.
@@MRVConcepts You thinking you can modify a set of 4th gen door panels to work? Either that or wrapping the 3rd gen panels with leather or something.
@@608_diesel Something along those lines, but we'll see.
Other than the wheel and tire combo, this thing is sick. Great work on the front end
@@XxFlyingweenerdogxX Much appreciated.
How’d you worship the center console for the usbs to work, also how did you wire up the seats to stop the seat belt chime
@@corn_stash7392 I didn't connect the USB ports since I only use bluetooth on the touchscreen. I'm not big on the tech in the newer trucks so I didn't bother to get all of the modern bells and whistles working. I just wanted the look and feel of the 5th gen interior while keeping my original 3rd gen features functioning. As for the seat belts, I'm using the the original 3rd gen buckles and latches. My truck never chimed at me since I've owned it so I'm not sure if previous owners messed with that.
Did you contact the original air bags to the new dashboard?
@@israelsotoruiz9997 Sure did. I had to mill out a bunch of the 5th gens air bag compartment to get the 3rd gen air bag to fit and then make some custom brackets that mount the airbag to the 5th gen metal dash support.
Where can I get this done ????
@@AnthonyGman I don't have an answer for that. I'm sure there are some shops out there that could do it, but I'm betting they would charge an arm and a leg to do it.
Awesome!
What!!!! 5th gen front end are you serious!! Looks sick was there a lot of fabrication
@@ranger_dudeoff-roadadventu1903 Much appreciated and there was a ton of work. I'm about a year and a half into it at the moment. There really wasnt to much metal fab involved besides some brackets. There was a massive amout of sculpting and fiberglass work. The whole thing is pretty much a bolt on conversion minus two brackets that I had to weld to the front crash support structure to hold the fenders on.
I just did this to my 3rd gen I just need to figure out the wiring now
@@ranger_dudeoff-roadadventu1903 Nice did you do a dash swap too?
I wish there was a way to make the newer gauge clusters work in the 3rd Gens
@@bigharryyy03 I cant remember who it was, but there is a guy on UA-cam trying to get it to work. He has it partially functional, but it looks brutal to get the modern electronics to communicate with a truck thats almost 20 years old. Thats a dinosaur in terms of tech.
@@MRVConceptswould a 4th gen cluster be easier than a 5th gen?
@@bigharryyy03 That I don't know. I know nothing about the programing side of things. If it did work though, you would have to do some trimming and custom part making to the 4th gen cluster as both it and the 3rd gen cluster are to fat to fit into the dash. I had to make my cluster about half of its original thickness as well as cut out a bunch of the inside of the dash to make it fit since the older clusters are rectangular in shape while the 5th gens is more round on the sides.
I'm curious to see how you do the wiring for the seats. Trying to figure out how to get power, heated, and cooled to all function.
@@justinmusall6272 I couldnt tell you how to get the heated and cooling functions working. All I got working was the power which was easy to do. Just hook up the positive and negative leads from the 3rd gen harness in the floor to the positive and negative leads in the seats. That enables full movement of the seats.
What is the single black wire on the 4th gen seat? I'm swaping out the 3rd gen seat to a 4th gen, and the connectors are different
people would pay good money for you to do that for them
@@FoTwentyVlogs Much appreciated and I dont know if I'd do another one that wasn't on my personal truck. I dont know if my skills are quite there yet.
Looks good so the front seats bolt up perfectly. I’m about to get some for my 3rd gen
@@ranger_dudeoff-roadadventu1903 Thank you and yes mine bolted right in.
5th to 3rd gen?
@@JohnPhilipCo Sure is.
Thanks!!! For the video!!
@@etexcustomrigs2760 Anytime. 👍
I’ve had my 3rd gen mega for almost a year and my interior is immaculate but damn I wanna do this swap.
Its hard to find these trucks with good original interiors these days. Mine wasnt bad but it wasnt great and I just had to have the 5th gen interior without the brutal price of an actual 5th gen.
What did you do for the A/C ducts?
A lot. I fabbed up some metal intake ports with a 3 inch round outlet that sits on top of the 3rd gen HVAC box. I fabbed up another metal intake port that is self tapped into the bottom side of the dash board for the defrost vents. I had to make a fiberglass intake for the main dash vents that face the driver. That one is also self tapped into the bottom side of the dash. Then I connected them together with 3 inch HVAC ducting from ace hardware. There is about a 1 foot gap between the 5th gen ducts in the dash and the 3rd gen HVAC unit. That space is where all these new intakes and ducts sit. Its right behind the infotainment unit.
@@MRVConceptsI have a 2013 4th gen in the truck now, just don’t have the means to fab anything lol
@@wileycoyote3189 Nice and the vents could probably be made another way. Metal work was just easier for me. It will take some welding to get the 5th gen dash in though. The shifter will not clear the dash without cutting and extending it with a welder. It was that or find a way to extend the steering column.
@@MRVConcepts yeah my 4th gen fit pretty good, no passenger airbag though lol, the one I got had nowhere to plug it in so. It just looks a lil ugly rn because I’m missing a radio and a/c controls lol, I’m gonna get the one from phoenix audio or a stinger one
@@wileycoyote3189Mine is a cheap amazon unit. Its decent enough. I made my original passenger airbag fit. It was kinda messy, but I got it to work.
@MRVConcepts can you reach out and give me some insight on some of this I have the exact same truck and I love the interior swap
@@trvllvibezz2538 No problem. What are you looking for.
@@MRVConcepts just the adjustments needed to make everything work properly
@@trvllvibezz2538There is a lot of cutting. The 5th gen dash frame bolts right in no problem. The frame will have to be cut at the bottom near the center console as it will come into contact with the heater core. The A-pillar section of the dash will also have to be trimmed to clear the 3rd gen A-pillars. The inside top left corner of the glove box had to be trimmed to clear the heater core. The worst part is the column shifter. It will not work without cutting off the column shifter and exrending it. I removed the shifter then took a cut off wheel to the base of it and extended it by around 1.75 inches with some 1/4 inch plate. It had to be welded back in. Then you really have to trim around the shifter boot area to get it to clear the plastic on the steering column. Do not cut into the ignition imobilizer or you will cripple the truck. The fit is super tight here and will take some trial and error to get everything to clear and shift properly without coming into contact with the imobilizer.
do you have any pictures of the seats? Considering a 4th gen seat swap into my mega, but concerned about the black seats sticking out like a sore thumb against the grey interior.
@@TheViperGuy91 I do not. Its definetly a lot darker than the cement grey 3rd gen interior, but I've gotten used to it. The plan is to black out the whole interior at some point. The new seats are worth the color difference though. They look and feel way better than the stock 3rd gen seats.
@@MRVConcepts Does it feel "off" when you get in due to the color differences? I agree the seats are way nicer, just worried about the stark difference.
@@TheViperGuy91 Not to me it doesn't. Im just glad the recession quality plastic and cloth are gone. Its all personal preference at the end of the day.
@@MRVConcepts any idea about a center console that goes with the black thats not the one you have? did they make a folding middle seat that matched?
@@TheViperGuy91 The lower trim level 4th and 5th gen trucks did come with a more modern folding jump seat that is similair to the stock one in our 3rd gens. I think they made some in black. If not then the earlier 3rd gens had a black jump seat since their interiors came in black from the factory.
Nice custom build! Can't wait to see it finished.👍
@@JacobRhodes314 Thanks and me too. Its been a long build.
fab skills are crazy! any reason for going with a 1500 headlight instead of the HD style?
@@Sam-qv5qi Much appreciated and I've always liked the way the new 1500's look from the front. I was going for that TRX vibe as well.
@@MRVConcepts gonna look awesome all finished up, do your 5th gen seat controls work? (heat/cool)

Can you explain the wiring?
For the seats
@@nicholassurla1088 All I did was connect the posative and negative leads from the 3rd gens seat harness that comes out of the carpet to the posative and negative leads coming off of the seats. There are other wires in both harnesses, but those controll other functions like heated and cooled seats. I dont plan on using any of those features anyway so those arent hooked up. Connecting the posative and negative leads enables the seats to move foward, back and recline. My truck also only had power seats for the drivers seat so I had to run another wire from the drivers side harness on the floor to the passesnger side to get the passenger seat to work.
