It shows the demands and norms, balancing between ridicule and critique, sublimizing pragmatics. It conne...

Waste is never the solution, the only waste that leads to a solution is the one that does not exist. Plastic can NOT be recirculated, many types of plastic can not be recycled and the ones that do are, can only be recycled once or twice before reaching a critical level of degradation. So the value does not increase "over and over again". Recycling is in most cases a very expensive and energy consuming process, much more expensive that creating new material. The "circular economy" based on recycling is greenwashing nonsense. Reducing and reusing are the only viable ways to reduce de damage we are provoking to the planet.

Really interesting that Bangladeshi architects are being an influence to the rest of the world. Its a shame, its not given the same level of importance, in Bangladesh itself.

@dianthus, HI28 and Mathis asking to view the complete interview. Prof Sassen's work on global migratory patterns, the loss of human affordable habitat, the financialisation of housing and many related topics have left a nearly inexhaustible electronic and paper trail. Go forth and EXTRACT PROF SASSEN's intellectual property. From what I've wiggled my toes in via her online talks (in multiple languages), her books up to and including Expulsions: Brutality and Complexity in the Global Economy (Cambridge, MA: Belknap Press, 2014) privilege the PUBLIC INTEREST in her policy analysis and prejudice the PRIVATE INTERESTS who have so rapaciously and mindlessly practiced this 21st C. incarnation of Imperialism that is basically Zipperless Extraction. Now there's a Trump-ian metaphor for our times. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskia_Sassen I value Dr Sassen's life works, all peer-reviewed to resounding global appreciation of those concerned with the PUBLIC INTEREST and EXCLUDED FROM CORPORATE CALIPHATE-CAPTURED PRIVATE INTEREST institutions, like the Pay2Play Washington centered and London, Wall Street, Bonn and Zurich-banked templates for government and the Neo-Feudal Lords of Globalized and Financialized Telecomm, HIgh FInance, Life Sciences\Pharma and of course the dynamic engine of all those contracts to rebuild must be preceded by Socialist Subsidies for Daddy Warbucks to maintain stability of the ever feuding Neo-Lib\Con Binary Lords... Namely, Daddy Warbucks! Note that while Dr Sassen is widely sought out by communities around the world, not so much by corporate-captured Pay2Play U.S. News and Public Affairs broadcasting and publishing cyber platforms (all facilitated by Social Spending on Research and Development which gave us these platforms of global communication (quite distinct from human-ego scaled projects of global domination or the Works of Idiots). I especially recommend the Swedish Public interest TV film PUSH on the topic of the global affordable housing crisis which has little to do with issues of Supply\Demand and everything to do with the focus of Dr Sassen's Private Interest Shunned work. www.theguardian.com/film/2020/feb/26/push-review-affordable-housing-global-housing-crisis-documentary ua-cam.com/video/u4-VORQZ1-Q/v-deo.html www.flickeringmyth.com/2020/03/movie-review-push-2019/ ua-cam.com/video/7Vz2LZYU5c8/v-deo.html Saskia Sassen - The process of “financialisation” of real estate assets 1,637 views May 2, 2019 Saskia Sassen, Professor of Sociology, Columbia University and London School of Economics, US and UK at the OECD Conference on SMEs and the Urban Fabric, 15-16 April 2019, OECD Trento Centre, Italy. Housing is increasingly becoming a financial asset, including low-income and social housing. This process of “financialisation” of real estate assets is subtracting resources from middle and lower-income households. Investment into real estate assets by financial firms has been especially pronounced in large cities and it has intensified in the last decade. This can have perverse consequences on housing markets, e.g. properties can create value when they are unoccupied. Her name is Prof Shoshana Zuboff, like Prof Sassen she was a tenured faculty member at an elite Ivy League university, Harvard and her field was Social Psychology. Her lifetime of inquiry however came during the TECH BOOM and so her studies professional and personal were focused on the rise, fall and re-jiggering of business models of the Silicon Valley and Global Silicon Alleys attracting never before seen volumes of Venture Capital. Look up how Dr Zuboff like Dr Sassen has had her work fall short of the Market Standards of our U.S. corporate-captured broadcast and cyber platform publishing. She had to retire from Harvard Business School before she could publish the fruits of her most fertile academic research and then tour the world unpacking her peer-reviewed highly regarded and paradigm shifting work. This standard is also seen stratification in the economic system of cities, they don't compete against each other economically, they exist within an interconnected network.
