They purposely put it in the scene to show that Marie was just like any other teenager
I don't mean to brag or anything, but...I literally got an A² on my essay or test or exam for this topic. Y-you know, The French Revolution. Mainly because of Lady Oscar x Rose of Versailles, Oscar and Marie Antoinette, you know, the anime. I'm hoping, I don't know, that they make a really good excellent remake on that one.

The cake comment came from a "cute" story in an old book about the royals. One of the adults tried to tell one of the little kids that other people were so poor that they were starving. It was the kid who asked why they didn't just eat cake, and we aren't even sure it was Marie Antinette. Marie had no power and was raised from a very young age to understand that she had but one purpose in life -- give the king an heir. She did just that, and in return she had her head chopped off. Was it fair that she lived in luxury while others starved? No! But she had exactly 0 control over that.
