    Why did you set the hook so hard like if you had a monster?

    • @skeeter1012
      @skeeter1012 6 років тому

      That was a weak hook set for a Florida angler lol. If that had been a monster there’s a good chance the hook wouldn’t of drove through the hard spot in the top of the mouth and it would of been long gone

    interestingly enough, there's videos all over UA-cam with people boat flipping 8+ lb'ers with these. magically, these go on clearance at tackle warehouse for $59. I ordered a couple, couldn't resist at that price. I've never broken a rod, but from what I understand the higher the modulus, the higher the sensitivity and the lighter the rod, but at the cost of thinner graphite walls and being more brittle. I read about you switching to Denali. the only rod I've ever returned to this day was a kovert 7' 2" worm rod. very tip heavy and heavy in general. not impressed. and to the marine biologist, I breed and specialize in rare exotic and finicky freshwater fish like balloon rams, discus, freshwater rays etc and what he did was absolutely not anything bad. the slime coat will return naturally. it looked healthy enough. what length and power rod was that in this video?

    • @skeeter1012
      @skeeter1012 9 років тому

      The ones you bought from tackle warehouse are Halo Daylights. This rod is a Halo twilight, the higher end, more expensive model. It was a 7'6 Heavy. 4 month is all I got out of it. But since I made the switch, I haven't broken a rod since this video

    Wow. I was just browsing about Halo as I thought their rods look pretty nice. But, as I went to their website, there is no mentioning about the materials that are used in their rods plus they don't state the line nor lure ratings. What I saw from their videos looked like these rods are made in Korea. To date and that is decades of fishing, I have only broken 1 rod and that rod just happened to have been made in Korea, don't ask me why. That is disappointing. From what I saw in your video above, you didn't seem to set the hook that hard at all and yet the rod shattered in 4 pieces. I think it might be safer to go for a known brand name in future even when going for a lower priced rod. At $150 a pop, may be some of the Shimano rods might have been a better bet.

    • @skeeter1012
      @skeeter1012 9 років тому

      Made the switch to Denali rods after I made this video a couple years ago. To this day I have not broken a Denali and I've been putting them to the ultimate test too. Boat flipping 8lbers in the boat without any hesitation. They are fantastic rods.

    • @Rascallucci
      @Rascallucci 9 років тому

      BradRennerFishing Interesting, will look out for them. But, if budget is not a huge factor, you can't go wrong with a G.Loomis. You don't have to go for a NRX or GLX, I still have an old GL3 MBR845C and is still going strong. It might be a tad on the heavy side, but testing it against my friend's Japanese Shimano or even Smith rods, I can honestly tell you it beats it. It has way more tip power plus it loads up nicely with plenty of backbone.

    • @skeeter1012
      @skeeter1012 9 років тому

      I have a GL3 & IMX Rod. And I like them but for 1/2 the price, the Denali's are still my favorite.

      +Fritz Weatherspoon no it wasn't just this rod. Again, I fished with the rod for 4 months. Caught many fish with it up to 9lbs. Then boom! On a 10 inch fish. It's a common problem with many of the guys in my bass club who have owned these rods. One of my buddy's broke 2 on back to back flips with the triple XH.

    Get the fish back in the water and then worry about it, you just killed a fish that was perfectly fine until it bounced on the carpet removing at least half, if not all the slime coat. In the future please, bend over and pick the fish up and then worry about the rod.

    • @skeeter1012
      @skeeter1012 9 років тому

      Oh god not another one of you dumbasses The fish was put back in the water and swam off to be caught another day. All my fish are live released.

    • @smalljaw
      @smalljaw 9 років тому

      BradRennerFishing I never called you any names, I have a marine biology degree, what do have besides a can of skoal in your back pocket and mouth cancer 15 years from now? That fish bounced around on the carpet for 1/2 your video and it was never shown to go back in, it is "dumbasses" like yourself that make the rest of the ethical anglers look bad. No name calling was ever required.

    • @skeeter1012
      @skeeter1012 9 років тому

      So just because you don't see me pick the fish up and toss it back in the water, it is safe to assume that I killed it? You know the saying, when you assume you make an ass out of you and me. It's "dumbasses" like you that take the enjoyment out of what a do. I may not have a marine biology degree but by god atleast I have enough sense to not run my mouth on the Internet just because I disagree with somebody. I think hand tieing hair jigs is stupid. Do you see me commenting on your vids, trashing you? Like your mother use to say, if you don't nothing nice to say don't say anything at all. So you may now remove yourself from my channel tough guy.

    • @smalljaw
      @smalljaw 9 років тому

      BradRennerFishing I will respectfully apologize if I offended you and after rereading what I said I guess it did come off a bit harsh. I didn't call you any names I just pointed out the treatment of the fish, that is it. I try to get the fish back in the water as quickly as I can without it hitting the carpet but it does happen, and I never had a rod blow up in 3 pieces like that so yes, I guess I'll admit I was wrong to say that and leave it be. Tying hair jigs is something to do for cold water fish and when the water gets hard, I also pour and paint every jig I tie and I hand tie silicone and rubber skirts onto my bass jigs as well, not just hair that gets tied, I'm glad you looked my channel up, have a good one.

    • @skeeter1012
      @skeeter1012 9 років тому

      And understand why I'm so fast to get defensive. I have quite a few followers who enjoy my videos but occasionally I get a stranger who wants to criticize me or call me a fish killer or animal abuser. My number 1 goal is to return the fish as healthy as possible back Into the water. Conservation is a big thing here in Florida. I Even go to the extent of dropping frozen bottles of water in my livewells during tournements in summer when the temp get really hot. I've also upgraded my livewell pumps to 2 1100 gallon per hour pumps, which pushes even more fresh water in when needed. So now that will give you an idea of what I'm about and that conservation is actually very important to me.

    • @ligerlures8248
      @ligerlures8248 10 років тому

      BradRennerFishing Huh. Yes, I do finesse, but just as much as everything else. I was just waiting for a fish to fly over your head, to be honest

    • @skeeter1012
      @skeeter1012 10 років тому

      If you weren't being rude about it then I apologize for my comment. I've had several people comment and suggesting I'm harming the fish with my hooksets and it was "overkill" that's what I assume you were getting too aswell. To answer your question, when you are flipping thick cover like I do a good strong hookset is key so if they wrap you up that will stay pinned up and also to drive that hook through the top hard spot in their mouth. It doesn't harm the fish in anyway. Yes sometimes I'll have a dink go flying over the boat but most times they pop off and swim away

    • @ligerlures8248
      @ligerlures8248 10 років тому

    You get what you pay for I guess.. Clearly Halo over priced their rod in the first place... $149.99 with or without a warranty, I wouldn't buy one. I'd buy a Fenwick before a Halo at that price.

      @skeeter1012 10 років тому

      I'm not sticking up for halo.. I won't buy another One. But they do come with a 1 year warranty: I got a replacement free in a couple weeks a sold it. Replace my rods with denali's and I've been really happy since

      BradRennerFishing Funny you say that... I`ve been looking at the Denali Jadewood and they look solid. Beautifully crafted, but I`m not sure yet what I`m going to go with. Either 13 Fishing, Denali, Fenwick or a St. Croix

      Somebody told me halo fixed the problem but I know people who keep blowing them up. I've been 100% happy with Denali since I've made the switch over a year ago. Not a single problem yet. Lightweight. Fast tip is very nice. And the overall finish of the rod is beautiful. Boat flipped a 8lber with my kovert flippin stick a month ago without any struggle. I highly recommend them. Buy one to try out and if you're happy buy more!

      A picture of the full fish on a scale is a requirement by the Florida Wildlife Commission(FWC) for the trophy catch program. They recommend holding this fish out right not bent at all to prevent any damages to the fishes spine. This method has been proven to be the best by studies. Sometimes you have to do some research and not go by what you think is right and wrong.

    Thanks MyTac Bassin We've actually had some pretty cold weather here lately, both these days were on a warm up from a previous cold week. Another front pushed through yesterday and todays high was only about 50. But its beginning to warm up tonight and onto tomorrow where it will be in the mid 70's and this weekend its suppose to make it up to the low 80's so the bite should pick up with water temps rising and the basing running for the hills to spawn
