    Don't listen to these snobs, even you guys are probably not treating this as a serious spar and just having fun, I think you guys do pretty well for people who practice mostly Olympic fencing and it seems you have an idea what to do. Just keep researching the manuscripts and techniques. Keep trying what works and what doesn't, don't be discouraged.

    Never mind a stick some of y’all got a knife up your ass being proficient in swordsmanship is great and the hobby is fun but not everyone who wants to learn to sword fight wants to learn to sword fight historically Some people just wanna Fight good enough Hell maybe they just got those swords because they were cheap compared to a lot of other practice swords also because of their shape you can pretend they’re arming swords or other Double edged cut and thrust swords yes in history they were more often used to stab then cut but they are certainly capable of cutting and for those of you complaining about a lack of tower shields the one with a buckler could pass for a type of gladiator who was equipped with a smaller shield and a gladius

    Thrusting sword not a slashing sword. More aggressive style and a lot of weight put into the attacks.

      It is fully capable of cutting And in this context where none of them are using tower shields cutting is perfectly acceptable Really if you compare the blade to arming swords or short medieval swords it’s not to dramatically different it is different but not to the point that if I were to switch the Hilts It would be incompatible

    uhm... the 'longsword' fencer is using a shinai. at least give him something that feels like a longsword. seriously, the feel of the weapon changes how they are used entirely. you cant use a thumb-grip with a tsuba, for example.

    • @josejoaquinbenitez6485
      @josejoaquinbenitez6485 3 роки тому

      Maybe it was an improvised match and couldn't figure out a good equivalent for a shinai in longsword fencing. A wooden sword would be dangerous, the Kendo bogu (armor) doesn't provide that much protection, a blow can hurt even using a shinai if you're hit where it's vulnerable like on the wrists or over the head. Maybe they could make quillons out of an old shinai or make wooden ones. Also the fencing guy should use gloves in both hands.

      Hit by which rules? Even though the HEMA guy hits a lot, most of those do not pass kendo requirements. And that is why this is so strange. One guy is thinking: "See I hit you", while the other is like: "This is nothing"

    Longsword guy, why didn’t you suplex him every time he shuffled past you after every exchange? Grappling is a crucial aspect of longsword fencing.Lichtenhauer himself said “wrestling is the basis of all combat” a belief also held by every other source in the Lichtenhauer tradition.

    • @BURGAWMMA
      @BURGAWMMA 3 роки тому

      Grappling was a huge aspect of all swordplay, I tried to explain that to some of the kids on the video game forums who thought I was crazy and simply couldn't understand why they forgot to included in all their favorite games

    These things are deadly.....but I wonder how much money these guys can make ? So far I have learned a few things from just watching.... ua-cam.com/video/5yaXPx6xWEQ/v-deo.html Short squat stout guys are fucking deadly with these things..... Anything under 5'10" and 200 lbs is deadly..... This is because a common tactic is to hack or slash at the opponents legs or chins. If the sword connects it takes out a chunk of their chin or leg bone with it. The wounded opponent goes into shock and slowly bleeds out while their adrenaline wears off. Having a missing piece of chunk from their leg bone causes them to not wanna put their weight onto their leg. This makes their attacks and defenses easier to beat while they bleed out from the wounding. The most common tactic seems to be Charge at opponent Shield bash tackle opponent While opponent is stumbling backwards to keep balance and stop themselves from falling down, immediately attack their chin or leg and hope you connect Body weight seems to be the most important factor when fighting because the heavier the opponent is the more gravitational force their blows can have. If the opponent is over 200 lbs and delivered a full overhand chop with their full 200-220 lbs of body weight behind the attack....Even if the defender gets their shield up in time to block blow the sword, there's a good chance that the force of the sword blow might knock their shield downwards and still allow some of the sword to connect with their neck or head region So short stout opponents have a more condensed body weight and less leg length to protect from sword attacks with more of their body covered by the shield Still I cant thing of a weapon that better represents imperial or empire might better a traditional gladius sword. Very cool
