Got Bob Skeltons race suit at home somewhere
👌🇦🇺✌️
When it was a race 👌🇦🇺✌️
Thanks wouldn’t it be great to see all the manufacturers in 2024 .not just two what we have today
Going by the soundtrack, music ended in the 17th century
Pit stop; wheel brace.
'I think he must have hit a patch of water'
One would have expected the Falcon XA coupes to have made an appearance in this race, but not. Only assumption I can think of is that they weren't quite ready to be raced, so they stuck with the XYs for this one.
Has anyone seen themselves in those crowd shots? Fifty years younger. How's the traffic in town, pause and have a good look. And no fatso's in those days, now it'd be the other way round. I was six at the time, didn't realize I was growing up in the best version of Australia for us who loved car's. And not being classified as a criminal for using them.
At 12.45 is my Fathers Charger he prepared it in his gargae Formula 1 Europa garage. Tony Allen and Phil {Peter,s Brother} Brock were the drivers. He helped Chrysler develop the RT/4 and convinced Weber to produce the 58mm DCOE carburettor's, they did and now its etched into history. It made the earth shake when reved up. So many stories to tell. Miss you Dad Love you forever. .
Such a memorable time in motor racing history & Your Father certainly left his engineering stamp on that Charger 😎
I wish I still had my Torana.
Was a Moffat fan & Ford fan but had a LJ XU-1 those were the days if only we could change back time LOL
4:19 + look out for drug deal (FIFTY) LOL
We took the motorsport we had for granted, year after year, and now we have nothing, nothing that comes close to this at all.
Interesting they only talked about the Ford and Holden, typically the Chrysler was not mentioned. Biased even then
Yeah but I guess this was a HDT promo film so they really only talked about their main competition mainly the top 4 or 5 cars and Allan Moffat in particular. The commentary for the actual race telecast would have been different. Additionally if memory serves there was only a couple of Chargers in the race as Chrysler had pulled out.
How cringe is the squealing of tyres😂😂
Still amazes me how there were no big crashes with trucks on the track while the cars were still racing just crazy
It was a little scary watching Bill Brown rolling towards us because we were on the fence not far from where he came to rest.
All ford had to do was homologated rear disc brakes and bigger wheels - & wider rubber.
The lap with moffat at the start has a sunroof don't remember the winning HO having a sunroof😂
Falcons no head restraints
Moffett and the great spoilers on falcon GTs they later removed them not helpful ?
These cars raced with crossply tyres? OMG 😱
Xu1 another great car
Moffat got help to get his car back on the track, not sure but i think that was illegal.....He should have been disqualified.
Thanks for showing this race. They all did a great job of not spinning in the rain in the first laps. The producer adding the siren at 8: 10 really didn't work tho. That would have been a great race to have entered.
I remember 2 brothers back in the day one with an orange XU1 and another with an XW GT. Both were no frills brutes and fast. One ride in the Coon thru the central SI of NZ on New Years Eve, 5 up at 130mph with a cracked front disc rotor....madness
WOW...This is like In Car Camera but much earleir. Great Video trick. Love it 👀
I remember the day the 6 cylinder little Holden that could, SMASHED the worlds fastest 4 door sedan Ford GTHO piece's of shit :)
With the help of the officials
Well it was an endurance race, less power but the XU1 wasn't without its strengths: easier on tyres and brakes; better on fuel; and the wet weather did its part on cutting the power advantage.
@@TheEwanMC Yep, Holden was smarter than Ford and built a better car. The Falcon was hailed as the world's fastest four door sedan, it couldn't beat the more nimble Torana
BULLSHIT THE Chargers were the favourites. @@whcdv8
Loved my XY 351 in the 80s n 90s
are when holden made the tin can cars and coke can doors and boot/ bonnet and a GM ENGINE
What we need,,,,,is 500 more horse power,,,, better brakes,,,, and a 6th gear.....
Ford - with a fully factory backed team, great driver, great car - on a dry Bathurst track we're an unbeatable combination. 1971 was still part of Ford America's worldwide "total performance" era.
Alan Moffat, and the phase three, were an amazing combination. At Bathurst, on a dry track, unbeatable. CLEVO FOREVER!
That’s pretty damn cool
Howard Marsden fitted grooved dry weather tyres to the works Falcons - they were 'terrible' according to Fred Gibson (they needed full wets). Marsden also removed the front spoiler of the Falcons causing the front pads to run too cold and glaze, which cost Moffat the race.
Look how smooth and composed Brock is.
My goodness, squealing tyres and body roll. That brings back memories. And I saw the Morris badge and what might be a Marina. They were awful then as road cars. The Marina and the Austin Allegro are regularly voted as two of the worst cars produced in the Western world. And of course they were both produced when the unions were on strike most of the time. Or so it seemed. Led by "Red Robbo", Derek? Robinson. The Swedes and the Japanese just took over. I can't imagine it being a good race car. In this country we got an Asthmatic straight four, and all, I think, under 2000 cc capacity. Around 70 horsepower. Just some thoughts. What a seductive era to be racing in. To be at the forefront of something so exciting. And yet open face helmets and no headrests. And it looked like no roll cage in some, but surely they must have been mandatory by now?
Road registered cars with crap suspension and brakes, and no safety. Brave people
Wandering around aimlessly. So funny
Racing with trucks, ambulances and parked cars on the track, madness
Looks like the algorithm has been aimed at us old blokes😳
My kinda car racing. 🇦🇺👍💯great memories.
Phase 4 Heads!
Good effort by valiant charger as well
Charger is my favourite, still have one , was my first car, love all of these cars what a time for Aussie motor racing
Great show back in the day 💯💯💯👍👍👍👀👀👀 Les from Perth
Recreating this in Forza is heavenly, then throw a supercharger on an xb mad max look alike and leave everything else behind.
The good old days I wish they still had class racing these days
Omg.... some one bought a Brock torana
