Στα τέλη του 1958 ο Μίκης Θεοδωράκης έγραψε το βασικό θέμα της ταινίας του βρετανού σκηνοθέτη Μάικλ Πάουελ «Luna De Meil» («Honeymoon» στα αγγλικά, «Νύχτα Γάμου» στα ελληνικά), με πρωταγωνιστές τον Άντονι Στιλ και τη Λουντμίλα Τσερίνα. Από τη μουσική του Θεοδωράκη προέκυψε το τραγούδι των τίτλων «Honeymoon Song», σε στίχους του Γουίλιαμ, το οποίο ερμήνευσε ο ιταλός τραγουδοποιός Μαρίνο Μαρίνι με το κουαρτέτο του. Στην Ελλάδα έγινε μεγάλη επιτυχία με τον τίτλο «Αν θυμηθείς τ’ όνειρό μου», σε στίχους Βασίλη Καρδή (ψευδώνυμο του Νίκου Γκάτσου) και ερμηνεύτρια τη Γιοβάνα. Την ερμηνεία του Μαρίνι άκουσε ο Πολ ΜακΚάρτνεϊ, του άρεσε και πρότεινε στα τρία υπόλοιπα «σκαθάρια» να ηχογραφήσουν το τραγούδι του Θεοδωράκη για τη ραδιοφωνική εκπομπή του BBC «Pop Go The Beatles». Η ηχογράφηση του τραγουδιού έγινε στα στούντιο του BBC στο Λονδίνο στις 16 Ιουλίου 1963 και σ’ αυτή συμμετείχαν οι: Πολ Μακάρτνεϊ (φωνητικά, μπάσο) Τζον Λένον (κιθάρα) Τζορτζ Χάρισον (κιθάρα) Ρίνγκο Σταρ (ντραμς) Η εκδοχή των Beatles μεταδόθηκε από τα ερτζιανά στις 8 Αυγούστου της ίδιας χρονιάς και παρέμεινε στα συρτάρια του BBC έως τις 30 Νοεμβρίου 1994, οπότε συμπεριλήφθηκε στο άλμπουμ «The Beatles: Live at the BBC». Η εκτίμηση που έτρεφε για το τραγούδι αυτό ο ΜακΚάρτνεϊ αποδεικνύεται από το γεγονός ότι το επέλεξε για το πρώτο άλμπουμ της φολκ τραγουδίστριας Μέρι Χόπκιν, του οποίου ανέλαβε την παραγωγή.
