CM Videos is an educational channel that uses videos to help viewers create effective solutions to their computational modelling challenges. The channel features videos on many materials, computational modelling strategies and tricks and tricks about the use of computational modelling software. Also, lectures on different principles of computational modelling are delivered on the channel to help users understand the principles that drive computational modelling solutions.
The channel has two objectives: (1) to help as many people get into computational modelling irrespective of level of experience and exposure to computational modelling and (2) to offer effective solutions to computational modelling problems. To achieve the first goal, the channel creates contents that are pitched at a level that many users can engage with without assumptions made on level of expertise expected. For the later goal, effective ways of finding solutions are presented for advanced users.

What is this, Maya?
Thank you! This video was really helpful. I have question - Why was U2=20 at the bottom of the dog bone? Thank you
Dear Dr. Michael Okereke please your email???
Hello Dr. Okereke, thanks very much for your insightful videos! I am working on simulating the soldering process of components onto a PCB. How should I proceed? Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Great video,Thanks you sir
You're welcome
Hi sir first thank you so much for taking a positive responsibility for society to educate abaqus software. Sir I am doctoral student sir I am interested to know in this video tutorial why you didn't use anisotropic values for natural fibers?. Thank you
Thanks for your great video I want to know how to access excel file? (I could not find in the CM Videos) I have a few questions: 1- Instead of corner nodes, is it possible to use a reference point? If it is possible to use RP, should we just use the RP history output? 2- Is it not necessary to use the net area of the material to calculate the stress? (I mean in this example the area = 100*100 - void area)
Thank you very much for such a good tutorial. I wish all viewers of the channel happiness and good mood.
Thanks Valera. You are welcome.
Hello, Dr. Will I obtain the same values in strain as well as in displacement, too, after applying these PBCs?
Yes you should.
@@MichaelOkereke Hello Dr. But why, after applying these PBCs, I obtained the same value of each pair of nodes only in displacement, not the same value in strain and stress as well?
Nice job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Dear Sir, You are doing really amazing job by sharing yours expertise on UA-cam. I am doing project in fracture mechanics and this video give me deep insights about the theory and its application in abacus . Love and respect from India.
Thanks. Glad it helped.
Thankyou for quality tutorial. Dr. Please share Link of the Python Script. I am unable to verify the account on your website.
Respected sir, I want to subscribe to your channel and use the resources for my thesis work but I am not able to to confirm my subscription.
Honestly your poster was so good 🔥🔥
Thanks. That is the magic of Canva.
Sir I'm really following your channel, I will like to contact you for a private class.
Always welcome. Please get in touch via cmvig.cmvideos.org.
why did you put the shhh sound in the video?
It simply a sound effect..
Hello sir... I want to create hoop bars in tapered rc chimney. How to create in a quick way? Please tell 🙏
I have not dealt with this sort of problem before.
hello Great Video What about Steel I beam section with stiffeners
Great suggestion! I think this can be treated by inputting the inertia values directly since it is not one of the standard profiles in ABAQUS.
Thank you for such a nice video. I have a general question: As the material properties are not changed, why in the stress concentration case the yield stress obtained from the plots is different and relatively higher than in the other cases? (Although I am assuming that the yield stress input is not changed for any cases)
Yes, correct. It is a localized stress effect, the better measure is the homogenized (effective) stress since such localised stress concentration is dependent on other factors (e.g. size of hole)
I love your channel, and the way you explain the topic very efficiently. I wrote many essays and research papers, but sometimes I credit people from only using a quote, and went to extreme levels. My question is : is it fine to overdo the credentials? Or should maintain a balance?
It is always better to maintain a balance. For technical writing, I do not subscribe to a lot of personal quotes instead you cite (intext citation) what the thoughts contain. I think you should seek for a balance instead between personal quotes in intext citations.
@MichaelOkereke thanks
Dear sir, Could you share detail video of cohesive zone modelling in Ansys workbench???
I do not have experience of that so unable to for now but maybe in future would!
Nice one Sir.
Many thanks
Can I get your contact?
Hello, I suggest you connect with me via this option: cmvig.cmvideos.org When you sign up to the CM Videos Insider group, you would receive a welcome email and you can contact me via that means.
Hi, I didn’t know where to write a general question so I’m writing it here. First I would like to thank you for the topics you share and the quality of their contents. My question is about the creation of multiple cylindrical systems of coordinates along a circle. I usually work with Hypermesh and there is no easy way to do that. I remember to have seen a video where you explained how to do that in Abaqus (or maybe I’m mistaken). If you really did, I would be grateful that you send the link to it again. Thank you!
Hello, please can you give me some more details. You can write me an email directly using the email in my About me page here on the channel or via cmvig.cmvideos.org (after subscribing to the newsletter)
Great video, could you explain something about the energy approach of the fracture evolution, fracture energy.
Yes, with the energy approach, you will do similar things i.e. determine the characteristic length but this time you use energy to make the deductions. I do not have a video about this but it could be a plan for the future.
Could you please modify the script and integrate the missing part of the composite definition? If you want to understand how to build the model it is essential.
If you are talking about the python script, I have looked again and the composite part exists. Look towards the end of the script int he Assembly/Merged section where the RVEComposite is formed. Unless there is something else I am missing.
The download file is not the same as the video. The composite section is missing on the tree

Really good video. For fracture evolution, if I use the energy option, does the fracture energy inputted need to multiplied by the element size?
Yes, correct i.e. you need to determine the characteristic length but it is not so straightforward but I sort of get what you are asking.
Lmao
Cheers.
Thank you very much for your great video, as you know the engineering constants (for linear elastic region) can be obtained through RVE modeling and using PBC. But I have no idea how to model nonlinear elastic or plastic material by applying PBC on RVE. Do you have any ideas? For example in this example, can the stress-strain curve be obtained through homogenization?
Yes, you are right. You do this ame thing... the only difference here is that the size of the RVE will be bigger when damage and damage evolution kicks in. But yes, you can get the stress-strain curve even through homogenization when you apply PBC just as you would do for elastic properties.
@@MichaelOkereke Thank you so much❤
Great video. I am though wondering if it is possible to do the same simulation (with the same ductile damage model) in ANSYS workbench as well.
Yes, absolutely.
e_pl_true = e_true - S_true / E You have drawn a line at S_UTS that exactly shows the relation above
Yes in deed... sort of!
Damage initiation criteria asks for e_fracture that is e_pl at UTS not epsilon at specimen fracture. You reach that giving the plastic displacement
Thanks a lot for the tutorial Dr. Michael. Got reminded of my friend Dr. Rajneesh, currently a faculty member at IIT Mandi India, who studied Carbon carbon composites using multiscale modelling (back in 2008-2009) with Prof Puneeth Mahajan at IIT Delhi, India. Could be an excellent collaborator. Thanks again for such a useful video. Best wishes.
You are most welcome. Please put me in contact with your friend and we can explore possible avenues for collaboration. Take care.
Very good work! An interesting problem is, ''What will happen if you use Truss elements instead of 3D stress elements''.
Similar outcomes (especially if it is 3D) but you will not see a stress tensor as in this case but the deformation should be similar.
excellent and very informative video
Glad you liked it
can you compare this failure theory with the traction separation theory? when should we use that one? when do we use Cohesive elements? Thanks for your video.
I am not sure about comparison of the failure theory and the traction separation theory. I know cohesize zone analyis tends to be required where there is interface/contact effect which need to separate as part of a damage event. This is not the case in this example.
can you compare this failure theory with the traction separation theory? when should we use that one? when do we use Cohesive elements? Thanks for your video.
Yes we can
This is Brilliant Dr Micheal, I have dowloaded the template and when I have more time. I would like to create more poster template from scratch it is really interesting. Last time I made a poster was more than 10 years ago.
Good to know. Thanks for your support and good luck with the poster making.
Sir, I request you to please make video on XFEM of single edge notched bend specimen for TRIP steels.
Noted
Thanks!!!!!!
No problem!
Can you please upload the excel file for us. Please
It was not intended to go with the video. Do contact me directly (through cmvig.cmvideos.org) and I will give it to you.
Please sir i will like you to make a video on compressive strength test of sandcrete hollow block. I am a student doing my masters degree program. I want to expand my knowledge in the use of Abaqus sir.
Noted, maybe in future when I start modelling concrete structures. Good luck with the study.
Hello dear Dr. Michael Okereke, i appreciate you ever in all aspects. my question is how to model and simulation all parameters together in ANSYS or other software's? Eample: AA6061 matrix, Al203 reinforcement, compaction pressure, sintering temperature and sintering time all together to find the maximum hardness, maximum compressive strength, and minimum wear rate.
I have not done this in ANSYS so unable to help. Good luck with the work.
Sir, please make video on eroding projectile and eroding target using abaqus software for ballistic case using Johnson cook model
Noted. Maybe I can do so in future but not now! Thanks.
