gaming on linux for a couple weeks now, had a couple hiccups with ssd being disconnected every boot up. and content creation seems to be a 1:1 nowadays
I'm so close to being completely done with Windows... The main problem being thousands of BSOD errors crashing my PC all the time. Does Linux Garuda have any such issues that the absolute lightest breeze will blow it over or is it stable? I have been trying to troubleshoot my PC crashing for a long time now but nothing seems to work. I'm not a computer savvy by any means and all I have ever known is Windows for the last 30 years. I have dabbled a bit with Linux Mint back in the day but went back to Windows for multiple reasons. Maybe things are improved now? I just want a stable PC at this point... And play what I can. I understood that not every game can run on Linux. Especially those with anti cheat stuff. I don't know anything about that. But most games don't have official Linux support. Are those games still stable? I just want to be effing done with everything crashing...
I'm sorry to hear about the BSOD errors. I've answered your question on my blog. Go ahead and check it out: megakingsmanzero.blogspot.com/2024/10/i-keep-getting-bsod-errors-on-windows.html
I just tested this game this morning on Linux Mint and a Potato and the game runs much better than on Windows 10, why is that? On Windows the game stutters a lot while one Linux 0 stutter. I didn't even turn on shader warming. I'm in awe.
Also dont Forget most People dont live in their parents' basements😂 the pc your talking is rent on a low-mid range pc.The cinematic experience is only for High end your looking at 3k all the way up to like 6-7k 😂😂😂😂
Can it play Cyberpunk 2077 with mods flawlessly?
PC
Yes pc is better, my pc is better then my series X. But everytime i boot up it needs to update windows , launchers and sometimes you need 2 launchers open at once and it gets annoying. So after work , most of the times i just get on the couch and play a few games
Been extremely impressed with Garuda. Not much of a reference to go off but it's been very fast, stable and handled the compatible games, sometimes even better than Windows.
the garuda community is unfriendly and arrogant.
Please folk, do a favor to u and stop using Garuda. Instead, use arco linux, cachy os or nobara os. Much better to all porposes of use.
Garuda Linux is a great choice but right now the new gaming distro everybody is talking about is cachy os apparently because of their kernel it's a gaming beast but I got to say I tried it and was very disappointed I get better performance out of Ubuntu and Fedora compared to cachy os but garuda was good I think ill give it a try again. Did you try cachy OS and If so, what did you think of it?
Bazzite is the distro everybody is talking about :)
I find Garuda totally chaotic. There are too many options to adjust something here and there instead of centering it in one place. CachyOS or Nobara is much better and clearer.
ngl i feel like it makes sense to be on regular arch
I've been thinking about it I tried them and popped back and forth between Windows and Linux the community is super friendly and more responsive than Microsoft and is better than SteamOS I tried using SteamOS and failed the installment so I might just go back to Garuda Dragonized I was this close to putting SteamOS on my computer I think Valve should team up with Garuda and help them build their own SteamOS I did notice virtual desktop and mixed reality doesn't work on Linux which is the only reason I am not switching to it and mupen64plus keeps breaking.
I've used Garuda in the past and it worked great, but now I'm on endeavour as it also works great. People in Linux are so funny and hypocritical they all complain about garuda because it has so many tweaks and that it could cause problems but yet the same people recommend nobara linux and cachy OS which also have custom kernels and they are both tweaked to the max. See the hypocrisy and double standard the same with Ubuntu gets bad press they added amazon link like 10 years ago and everything else they do and people still hold that on them but yet fedora trying to implement telemetry on fedora 42 but that didn't raise no issue. That's why I kind of stop watching linux video and removed myself from communities involved with Linux I still use it and like it, but that's why Linux will never grow because new user's ask ok which distro should I use and they get all those comments don't use this use that this one no good but this one is it pushes new user's away.
Ultimately, the choice of which Linux distribution to use is a personal one. While I do speak highly of Garuda, it's still up to each individual to decide which Linux suits their needs best.
My rx590 xfx 8gb AMD it doesn't have the fans spin and it doesn't display what can be the issue help me
What is the wattage of your power supply?
@@megakingsmanzeromine 500 wats and the same problem
I use arch btw
Everything is just RIGHT there on arch. Everything JUST WORKS
No, not the garuda. It failed to properly recognize that it failed to install correct combination of drivers for optimus with 1060 (i7-8750h + 1060Max-Q), it had issues with mid-screen tear due to pushing Wayland while it's not ready for the task, firedragon has issues with twitch. I also had some issues with audio devices, but I don't remember what exact problems I had, so we can discount that. On top of that as soon as you start installing something that is not considered in garuda's defaults, all the neat theming goes out of the window. Ultimately it did not contain anything that would make my life easier in comparison to just installing Steam, Heroic and/or Lutris on baseline Linux Mint and did not work any faster than my current mint installation. Mint managed to install properly working set of drivers on the first try. I can't say that it is best and I'm not sure how long I will stay on it, but it's defiantly not worse.
Garuda really? It's ugly, bloated and with a crash awaited to happen upon every new install of a new application extension or when updating the system. Have you tested Bazzite, Nobara or Pop!_os? Gaming applications aren't that difficult to install, and proton is basically all you need now, if that doesn't work, get protonupqt and install a glorious eggroll version. Change the max map count. sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=655300 Install Steam, ProtonUP Qt, ProtonTricks, WineHQ Stable, Wine Tricks. Alternatively add Lutris and Heroic to the batch. If so Woosh, now you can play all Steam Games that proton allows, Epic and "Good Old Games" games. The max map change fixes issues with that shouldn't even exist. It should be added as a default to every linux distro installation to be honest. If it haven't already been handled and fixed. max_map_count info (that it's default is a red hat specific point not distro wide truth.) access.redhat.com/solutions/99913
cachyos blows it away
How come? I'm a total Linux noobie btw.
*QUESTION* You right-clicked on Tales From The Borderlands .EXE file to run with WINE. OK... the question is, does that game not have to run an installation? I want to play a particular MMO, nearly 27Gb installed in Windows. In a VMWare Workstation VM of Garuda, I set up Bottles and got the online installer, and the game opens and runs. Mouse control is completely shot, but I'm running an emulator through a VM so I'm not expecting perfection, just to see that it works. How does the right-click run with WINE work with something like this?
It doesn't matter if you're using Wine Windows Program Loader or Bottles, the question is, is it working for you? Video games have to be installed on your hard drive, and the choice of installation method is yours. This type of freedom is the beauty of Linux.
If you go for arch, might just go for vanilla arch and add only gamemode and zen kernel, there are different videos showing that garuda doesn't really perform any better than that
Dual booting presents a number of issues, including the most annoying of all: Linux likes your BIOS time set to UTC, while Windows likes it to be local time. Switching back and forth is a chore.
This is mostly good advice but it can lead to a lack of commitment if youre trying to totally switch. My advice would be to get the seperate hard drive but take your windows drive out and shove it in a drawer somewhere until the transitionary period is over. Dual booting is awesome but it's super easy to give in and boot back into windows as soon as something presents a moderate challenge. Sooner or later, the linux installation falls into disuse and before you know it, the next stable release has come out so you decide to just nuke your previous installation and try again. The linux path is full of pitfalls like these.
Seems like good advice. Kinda crazy to see a 25 second video just for that but uh yeah, seems like good advice for keeping one sane
I have a question. I know that Garuda recommends not dual booting with it, but is it really a problem? I just don't want to remove Windows straight away.
It's up to you.
@@megakingsmanzero I guess that's about the most Linux thing you could say. 😁 I did end up dual booting it. So far, so good.
It's generally not recommended to dual boot Linux and Windows *on the same drive* for a number of reasons, most of which is that Windows is notorious for messing with other EFI partitions it finds on a drive, even if it's on another partition entirely. Dual booting on separate drives is fine.
Nice. Did you (or anyone else here) have any audio delays when on steam games?? I tried a couple games and have serious delays, like from a couple seconds to more then 10 seconds. Haven't tried any other games or launchers yet.
No, I haven't.
Wanna switch from win10 by the end of support date. Total newbie to linux. My use case is vid recording/twitchstreaming an some basic editing. I do alot of gaming and emulation. I also watch youtube netflix dinsey+ amazon prime and i like google chrome and firefox for net browsing. Not a big fan of telemetry. Acer nitro5 gaming laptop Nvid geforce gtx 1650 Amd ryzen 3550h cpu 20 gb am 256 gb ssd 1tb hdd Also i use my ps4 pad for my pc gaming and also use wiimotes for lightgun games. One extra thing is i like how batocera seems from the vids i saw but i heard its meant to be used offline as its notsecure
Linux/GNU or as I call it these days Linux plus GNU, gave my life meaning, and donated to African children in need, what a god!. F!ck appol gooners that will forever miss on the greatness that is #Linux4Lyfe #Gentoo #Arch #NixOS #Neovim #Hyprland #NetworkManager #SoystemD
"perception that linux was not as user friendly as windows" LMAO Linux will never be a true contender in gaming. I hate mac's and they are more likely to be a better 2nd place for gaming. .... The list of reasons that linux will never sit 2nd place or close to windows in personal user marketplace and especially in the gaming marketplace is way longer then I would honestly want to sit here and list. Don't get me wrong, I have used linux, linux servers, and all that garbage. every distro has its own way of being a pain in the ass and is never an out of the box solution. Even system builders, like System 76 come across issues with audio and things of that nature just for streaming. How many years has it been since the whole " this is the year of linux" thing has been goin now? If you are into linux and wanna spend the time dealing with it and trying to get all your games to work on it.. thats cool. have fun with it, but don't lie to people making it seem like its easier and better than a windows system. It will never have the out of box experience that a windows PC has, where you can literally install windows on practically ANY mix of hardware and it be ready to go for gaming in under an hour.
sure your right...BUT until my CAD-software (ActCAD, from India) can operate on Linux, instead of MS, I'll have to stick with W10 (no, I need not upgrade to 11-12 :-))) Can anyone offer a solution for my CAD-on-LINUX dilemma, PLEASE!?
You are talking about the lack of support *for* popular game engines, but shouldn't it be the lack of support *by* popular game engines?
Intel Arc drivers 4 Linux are lacking.
I think this is currently the biggest pain point. Only AMD has good OSS drivers and Nvidia's proprietary driver introduces lots of problems when trying to use it in conjunction with things like Gamescope or other Wayland heavy sessions. Only recently has Nvidia gotten their HW mostly working with standard DEs on wayland. Intel devs need to contribute more to get ARC GPUs supported as well as the OSS AMD stuff and Nvidia really needs to do more than just token code contributions to NVK and Nouveau.
I've been there and games were the entire reason I switched back to windows. I've been running the same windows 10 OS since about 2015, literally the same install that I downloaded from pirate bay. Every part of my computer has changed including the HDs but it's still the same OS.
Who cares about DRM free if its not Libre software?
who cares about libre
an *exclusively* Linux game/software/whatever store is going to face a real uphill struggle. As good as one might be, goodwill doesn't pay bills. It is much better to get more linux-native games on Steam and Gog.
idk man would a linux exclusive store actually be a good idea ? I mean we already have gog and itchio both drm-free and support linux would make no sense for a business to start a new store from scratch supporting only the platform with the least amount of users (even tho that platform is gaining traction we're still by far a minority) they'll just end up with no client and no game devs who would even bother publishing their game there what's more realistic would be getting like better linux support from gog and itchio like new launcher or something
Creating new store solves non-existent problem. The existing storefronts are perfectly fine for linux, the games in them are the problem. Making new store doesn't magically port all the games to linux. Drms are unlikely to go anywhere in the near future so making linux support them better is much higher priority than getting rid of it.
@@luimu the current stores arent that good. steam is drm so you dont own games and gog doesn't support linux that much.
2 reasons why I choose Linux at my workplace: (1) Windows gives me too many unexpected interruptions (2) it's fun coworkers ask if my PC is crashed when I am on CLI
Handheld gaming and the success of the Steam Deck is revealing the problems of Windows OS to the public.
Everytime i fireup my hyprland setup there is always someone who is like damn bro you laptop looks so cool, how did you do that
Any computer is as stable as you make it. None kf them require restarting, it is simply an easy fix for many priblems. Windows is still better for most people because software compatibility is far better on windows. Downloading software is far easier on windows. Windows is far easier to use and learn because it has a fully fleshed out gui, while linux has an over reliance on memorizing magic spells. But i will still always use linux when i can because customization is awesome.
My problem is how people keep saying "switch to Linux" despite the change not being that easy or seamless - especially if your applications only have windows versions and Linux, despite being 30+ years old at this point, doesn't offer proper compatibility built-in. Not that MS/Apple do either (MS' backwards-compatibility is a lie and has been at least as far back as Vista; Apple killed 32-bit and now 64-bit with ARM) but considering everything else they did and still do, that's not unusual - but for an entire, open-source community that wants a larger user-base? IMHO, I think it's just sad and disappointing. And I'm not asking for much: Wine already exists, I just want it and any settings that are needed to be conveniently *already built-in and pre-set* so I don't have to install Wine or tinker with its settings; I've done enough of that for the past 20+ years of using Windows tot the point I have collection of patch-EXEs to just run on a new machine/install. And if that fails for some reason, at least with Windows I'm already more than familiar with its problems and can nick a file or two from an older HDD or something.
With Linux you are learning how to do things. With Windows you are learning how to prevent your operating system from doing things. Which one is more productive?
Good points, but there's one reason why Windows crushes Linux every time... it remembers where I put my app windows so they open there next time. :)
you can do that with linux too
I'm on team penguin but to be fair, memory leaks are extremely rarely caused by an OS itself (1:33). It's almost always a flaw in some 3rd party application. If it's programmed in a low-level language, it can have a leak, no matter what platform.
Sorry but it doesnt win11 is great asfk, I used Fedora for a while and it doesn't even have fractional scaling for hidpi monitors those crap are not ready
I really hope you mature some say so I can chat and inquire your reasoning and have a adult debate. *lemme guess. America?* *arch BTW*
I don't really think windows is so much buggier and less stable, but it is obviously much more bloated and bad on your hardware if you've actually tried any popular distro, you'll know 11 is insanely bloated by comparison, and making custom versions of it that supposedly decrease the bloat, often leaves you lacking in security by a lot. I've never had any viruses or backdoors with Linux but seeing a virus on your "antivirus" program of choice on Windows, is just another day that ends with 'y' for Windows users.
@@BlackTakGolD "I've never had any viruses or backdoors with Linux.." And how would you know? Linux doenst have any antivirus built in because everyone thinks its not needed. You yould be literally rocking 10 viruses at a time, let alone backdoors lol, on Linux without having a clue.
Sounds like a nvidia user, also gnome ? I know a new user will probably not know everything that is out and the best tool for them. but just trying one thing and saying everything related to it is bad is bad faith
Running firewalls/antivirus as software applications is mediocre at best. If you actually care about security, You are better off using dedicated edge devices. A decent router like mikrotik plus a pfsense/opnsense box is far superior to any software solution on windows ( or Linux). Just my opinion of course
At one of my workplaces I had to use Windows. For remote work I had to leave the system running. After a few days when trying to unlock the system in person, there was no video output, nada. Always had to force restart.
I agree.
A good monolithic kernel with solid memory management, faster file systems, what could go wrong. When I played Borderlands2, it run faster and better than Windows on the same hardware, just because of what I wrote before
Microsoft also embrased Safety and security bullshit. Idea behind it is, that when you write foundation/system/driver code. You have to be extremely careful this memory allocation. And places where user generated input is placed into variables. There is a new generation of low level languages. Mainly Rust and GO. That take the ability to manage the memory out of everyday coding. They utilize macros. Where instead of configuring type of variable, it's length, and it's region in a memory, you use makro. The abstract system where you define this tags what the variable should not be allowed to be. It's not bad thing buy itself. But it allows people should have no business writing a Low level code. Write fundamental components of the operating system and drivers. Result is the same functionality. Quadruple the binary size. And half the speed. The idea that there should be no unsafe code. Probably is the idea that will kill Windows once and for all. Simple systems like Linux combined with modern simple libraries and dependencies. Will eventually prevail over the windows. Due to the users rander utilising 20% improvement in performance in games. And use second installation of same operating system that is hardened and secured. Del for slower for their banking and highly important work. Only thing that is sad about the Linux. Is that Linux kernel 6.4 together with X display server or Wayland. Is going into the same either blouted or safety and security obsess the direction.
