For me 180cm minimal headroom would work for me. Most boats in the 9 meter range would work. Anything much smaller may not have the headroom. Also long keel is a must with a keel mounted transom. Very few new boats nowadays have long keels. Long keeled boats also sport less draft and aren't at all prone to grounding damage. Yeah these new boats with a hard grounding may destroy the boat especially with tiny but deep fin keels. Nope I'd rather refit an old boat than buy a new one they're junk by comparison. Yeah have a hard look at something along the Cape Dory 28. One tough, blue water cruiser that will take you anywhere you wanna go. Orcas won't be ripping your rudder off either they love spade rudders!

I'm chewing at the anchor at 69 to live on my 22ft sailboat. Lived on her 5 years in 1995 at a slip but ready to live in the Florida Keys back waters. And thank goodness no motor. I like rowing with 9ft sweeps.

Visiting family in Anacortes this week. Very windy on Friday and Saturday (10/18/24 - 10/19/24) Stopped at Cap Sante Marina. Heard there were gusts to 45 on Friday. Your boat was fine and riding well on the lines without any chaffing. Ran into several owners re-doing and adding lines but you were fine. I didn't see any excessive strain on any of the lines. There was one boat on the rocks below Cap Sante Park and appeared to be another on the rocks on the island just east of the Fuel dock. Regards.

Nice harvest and nice sail! Love the footage forward of the bow with the selfie stick. What are the purpose of the 2 lines from aft of the boom to the backstays? Is it to minimize movement of the boom when the mail sail is not hoisted?

Both the stern rail covers and hatch boards look fantastic! Do you do just one side of the hatch boards? What brand of polyurethane do you use?

I had a 34 Catalina and love it! Though I move up to a 380 Catalina and has a much better cruising comfort. Great video brings back good memories.

It's funny what you Yanks consider small but yes I'd concur with your assessment; here in the UK small would generally be under 28', some would say under 20'.. Hey we're all on the water having good safe fun! 🤞

the biggest benefit to me is that I can have it on my parkway on a trailer, so /I don't have to pay mooring or have a slip, since I don't live far from the ocean (like 15 mins) I save a lot of money!!

G'day from Australia. Size depends on whose point of view you are talking to. I owe a Columbia 27. Under 30 feet i consider it to be a very useful pocket cruiser, as i am a full time live aboard, i need adequate space all round for at least two people to be comfortable to live on and go coastal cruising or off shoure transatlantic crossing.The Columbia 27 fits my bill and is still in my capability to handle on my owen. Enjoyed your video and completely agree. For cruising after retirement in 2011 we chose a 1985 Catalina 36 for several reasons. It was affordable, very roomy, good capacities for fuel and water and robustly engineered by Frank Butler. We installed a manual windlass that we could use if our anchor got stuck otherwise it's light enough with 90 feet of 3/8" bb chain and an oversized plow anchor to pull up by hand, which was my morning workout. We installed a full suite of Garmin electronics including radar, sonar, AIS 800, under deck autopilot, 2 chart plotters and VHF radio, all on the backbone cable. We built our dodger and bimini using Sailrite kits and installed 450 watts of solar on top of both. I removed the factory ladder and designed and built a swimstep with stainless and King Starboard and attached a 4 rung swim ladder to it. We needed the swimstep to get our 2 dogs from the dinghy to the boat. We contacted Garhauer marine for our dinghy davits, radar pole and outboard motor crane. We did all of this to follow my dream of doing the Baja Haha cruisers rally from San Diego to Cabo then to cruise Mexico. We went as far south to Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo then north real slow to be in the Sea of Cortez by April. And here is the point of my story, after 8 months of cruising we arranged to just have our boat trucked back from San Carlos to San Diego. The Mexican truck took it to Arizona where a crane picked it up and put it on a San Diego Boat Movers truck! And we actually saved money doing it because the 9K it cost was less than the pension money we saved by being in Mexico! That was 2011-2012 and it was so much fun we did it all over again in 2016-2017. If our boat had been bigger we would have had a harder time getting slips in marinas because the westcoast cruising fleet is mostly over 40 feet.

Your belt seems too loose to my eyes. I have a similar engine (M35BC), and the belt doesn't wobble nearly as much. But as you mentioned, in 28 years there has been no issues so the this tension level appears to work for you.

Looks good! I'm jealous that you can run your engine periodically in the winter (mine is on the hard). Question: does your anti-siphon valve (under the head sink) spit out a little water whenever the engine runs? Or does it stay completely dry regardless of engine rpm?

Sprinkle talcum powder under the floorboards and look later for track marks. Follow track marks back. Vacuum talcum powder up afterwards

I have the same boat as you, a C34 MK2. By coincidence, I noticed the exact same leak in my boat 3 months ago. I did some research and apparently it is normal for that valve to spit a little while the engine runs. In my previous boat, a Hunter, that same valve also spit water. However in the Hunter, the top of that vented loop had a hose that directed any leaking water to the bilge instead of spitting all over itself. I may change mine this spring to the type that the Hunter had. As you noted in your video, access in that area is ridiculously limited - I've been mulling about enlarging that cabinet door. This will also allow me to make better use of the large unused area back there for additional storage.

The classic old camcorder, what a throwback. I've never seen linear moorages before, one day perhaps I'll meander down to the San Juan islands and check them out, looks like an interesting in-between of a mooring buoy and a floating dock.
