False advertising for the biggest reason i purchased this particular machine, as i age i wanted to cut lots of grass with a machine that is easily serviceable by myself. I have another video showing the video on how to do it correctly. It cannot be done as they instruct and John Deere fails to provide me with an uncut video demonstrating how the 72inch deck can be tilted safely.

Airconditioning high pressure pipe is clearly below chassis and has somehow ruptured loosing all refrigerant, the dust/elements coming into cabin is still too much for a premium cabin. "The premium cab was developed using extensive research and testing and some of the most advanced design techniques available." quoted from John Deere Australian website brochure.

John Deere 1585 Front Deck Mower poor quality control

The poorly sealed radiator compartment, often overheating and shutting down with audible alarm in the middle of a paddock on a reasonably steep hill, then having to get out and brush grass away. Very poor workmanship and no quality control.

    Ridiculous. Even a cheaper made Grasshopper has an electric power fold deck. John Deere should be ashamed of themselves.

    You need to read the comments from your last post about unsafe rotation of mowing deck. I may comment on what has worked for me since 1999. One thing I forgot to add, for people that do not know what railroad ties are or an 8 x 8 piece of lumber 18 inches long, use your car ramps.

    I’m gonna try to be nice about this. The problem is solely created because of the space it requires to rotate the deck. I bought a 1435 and eight 1445 and 1999 with a 60 inch and a 72 inch side, discharge deck, respectively. For in the garage, I cut two pieces from a railroad tie (8 x 8, approximately 18 inches long.) Lift the mowing deck while approaching the garage and drive up onto the eight by eights. disembark the machine and set the chains (approximately three links) so that mowing deck cannot come down. once you have successfully used the service chains, shut off the machine. The machine was left to run, in case, you have to use the hydraulic lever to re-raise the mowing deck to catch the other service chain. I don’t have the right names for this, but, the depth gauges at the rear of the deck need to be left loose. Open the trap door (floor) and unhook the PTO shaft. Now you can rotate the deck without even removing the anti-scalping wheel at the left hand rear side of the deck. When you rotate the deck, lock it in the position so that the blades are at a 90° angle do you. There is never been a time that I wasn’t near a ditch, a curb, and embankment, and of course, there’s always loading it back on the trailer and leave it hanging off the back. I hope this resolves your problems. I still use these machines today. Almost a quarter of a century and I have no complaints. Money well spent to John Deere, and a lot of return money has been gotten with very little machinery breakdowns. Oh, and by the way, seemed as you have it in that position, make sure you sharpen the blades, balanced them, and make sure you get the grease gun out and lubricate the whole machine.

    I agree rotating the deck is difficult,I only have done it once.For cleaning the underside of the deck or changing the blades I raise the deck as high as it will go and then put a couple of steel jack stands underneath so it doesn't fall on me and service it like that.

    You are absolutely correct on your safety assessment. I completely severed my achilles tendon doing that maneuver 5 years ago. Completely changed my life. I now have a overhead electric winch in my garage which I hook to the front of the deck to lift the deck safely to latch and unlatch. Great video showing how unsafe in can be.

    we've used these mowers for a decade.. and we've never used the service pin.. if we need under them for service they get taken off the tractor and put on a hydraulic lift.. I learned many years ago that, most salesmen would bald face lie to the pope to make a sale.. salesmens never done it.. of course he'll say its not that hard.. he wants you to buy it.. if its something really important to you, try it before you buy it You don't get a super heavy duty deck that lasts a lifetime... without it being too heavy to man handle

    I've really enjoyed your videos and sympathise with you. Same issues on my 1585. I had a 1575 for eight years with never a problem. Easy to service, a quick clean after use with a cordless blower and ready for the next day. I hated getting grass blown all over me when mowing some paddocks so decided to get a 1585. Lovely to use but after 3 years the engine mounts broke. Took it to the dealer and wrote to John Deere headquarters in Queensland and they agreed to pay half of the $1350 repair bill. Two years later same thing happened. I was told they'd never heard of this problem before but the dealer said the local council brought the same model in just before me with broken engine mounts and heard from another dealer in country Victoria of the same problem. It was repaired under warranty and the dealer showed me the recall notice they'd received from Cervus Australia. Engine mounts were replaced with the same mounts on the four series tractor (which I also own) At 189 hours the cruise control failed and the transmission has gone and I can't use four wheel drive. The growling sound is noticeable in reverse but ok in forward gear. Dealer said use two wheel drive which has no transmission noise but it has made my mowing of 30 acres restricted when on slopes. I've just ordered a new 1585 and hopes whoever goes to buys my old machine and reads the required previous owners info that they give me a call. I'm sure the dealer will repair any faults before reselling. Managed to get $36k trade in, not too far off what I paid 6 years ago.

    You have a point mate.. we have to blow out the whole machine 3 or 4 times a day here in New Zealand .. just the way it is in summer. We'll do 1000 hours a year on em mate.. bloody bonza 🤣 you're right about being a fantastic product just get John Deere to tidy up those few issues.. ooh and build a bloody decent drive shaft too... their one's are crap.. only last about 600 hours if you're lucky then they'll cause vibration.. 😉 but l have to say we cut much longer and thicker grass than the stock drive shaft was designed for ... Btw.. l have a contact for a really strong DS ofc. Cheers

      Shut up dickhead. The point is, i purchased a machine that was suppose to be easily rotated and it cannot. The 100 plus kg service tech agrees and could not do it and offered some ramps which i still have to get under and lay down. With dmaged spine and knowing now about so much false advertising, i would have not bought this machine. There are many more issues with a machine designed to be a snow blower and not a mower

    • @Shane-xb8xl
      @Shane-xb8xl 5 років тому

      the cut is alright but i would seriously recommend looking at another machine, this model has way too many design problems, the dust ingress into the cabin is very bad, its a torture cabin drawing in fine grass through so many gaps.

    What a fucking joke. Im considering uprading to a 1570 or 1580. I was told you didnt even have remove the pto shaft by the sales rep. I'll be getting him to show me how easy it is after watching this. I'll have to do this everytime I need to load the machine onto my trailer as its too long with the deck down. God I hope theres an easier way.
