Gary West - Jackson ft. Leona Williams
On January 22, 2019, Gary West and Leona Williams meet in person for the first time at a Nashville recording studio. At 1pm that day, a friendship was forged. Although they had spoken on the phone and had exchanged several text messages, Gary admits it was difficult to sleep the night before as nerves set in.
Leona Williams is regarded as one of the most revered lady singer/songwriters in all of country music. Leona Williams was married to Merle Haggard from 1978 and 1983. She wrote two #1 hits for him, "Someday When Things Are Good" and "You Take Me For Granted". She wrote songs for Connie Smith and Loretta Lynn and more. She also charted 8 times on Hot Country Songs with a duet with Haggard titled "The Bull and the Beaver" peaking at #8 of the Country Top 40 hits.
"JACKSON", is a song written in 1963 by Billy Edd Wheeler and Jerry Leiber and was first recorded by Wheeler. Johnny Cash and June Carter recorded "Jackson" in 1967.
Gary West and Leona Williams brand their own firey "folk-a-billy" style version of Jackson, produced by Gary West and featuring his amazing, legendary Nashville band.
