To all our patients and friends, As many of you know (because I got hundreds of emails from you), on May 17th, 2018 the FDA approved erenumab (brand name Aimovig) for preventive treatment of migraine in adults. This marks a pivotal time in Headache Medicine, since Aimovig is the first in a new class of CGRP monoclonal antibody blockers, and thus represents the first mechanism-specific treatment...

Nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, speech slurring and sensitivity too light,,im usually down 2-3 days and can't eat..all test are negative but when migraines start its clearly the test aren't picking up these things.

Doctor said the Herpes virus does not have medical cure because the virus is capable of hiding within the human cells, it remains protected from your immune system. Herpes isn't a special virus - your immune system has the tools to fight it back. But because it is able to lay dormant in protected cells, your immune system is unable to remove it from your body, But with strong reactive herbal medication is capable of getting rid of the virus gradually and totally from your body without damaging any of your cells , natural herbs kills the virus totally not just reducing the out break. My daughter suffers from CVS, cyclic vomiting syndrome which is abdominal migraine since childhood. She is an adult now but still suffering. There were periods where there were no symptoms or vomiting episodes couple of years ago for year and a half. Now they are coming back again. She is on several medications to control the condition. amitriptyline, sertraline and Trokendi and on top of that CQ10 and other otc's. Her neurologist gave her the Amovig 70mg to try. She only took once but all her symptoms are enhanced and more frequent. Although she said that many migraines were aborted which is a rare occuring. She is going to wait at least three months and hopefully this adjustment period will bring a promising change in her condition. We are hoping for the best and hopefully if this does work, she can stop taking other medications and keep taking Amovig once a month to control the condition. This is a breakthrough in migraine treatment and will hopefully work well who ever is using it.

I've been having 20-30 migraines a month--utterly disabling--combined with rheumatoid arthritis. ALL OF THEM are cervicogenic. The RA, moving up into my upper cervical vertebrae, might be increasing the migraine frequency. Have been on triptans and beta blockers for years. Just tried my first AIMOVIG shot today. I agree that non-migraineurs have difficulty relating to the profound disabilities that chronic migraines inflict.

In response to T.Smith's comments: The study he references was over a year old, but even they said "In conclusion, this review suggests that, based on current knowledge, the pros of blocking CGRP in migraine patients exceeds the cons." We DID NOT see BP spikes in any of the phase 2 or 3 studies, and the Mayo clinic did a landmark study of injecting a CGRP blocker in folks with known cardiac disease, then walking them on a treadmill. No problems were found. While we need to continue to monitor and assess patients on these drugs, let's not spread fear unnecessarily.

  • @TJones-nk2ow

Sorry folks, although I was excited about CGRP too, the research on it looks sketchy to me. It'd be nice to hear from some that have tried it when it came out on June, 2018 (God bless you!) to see how they're doing. What I've found is that CGRP blocks the peptide that helps us to regulate our blood pressure. With extremely high BP spikes out of nowhere being common in chronic migraine and chronic cluster headache patients, this could pose a significant cardiovascular risk according to... NCBI PMID: 28948500, "Blocking CGRP in migraine patients - a review of pros and cons" (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28948500/) "In the cardiovascular system, CGRP is present in nerve fibers that innervate blood vessels [54] and the heart [55, 56], and participates in the regulation of blood pressure [12, 57-59]. Furthermore, it has also been described to have a role in the maintenance of (cardio)vascular homeostasis during ischemic events [9] and in tissue remodeling in pulmonary hypertension [60]. This protective role raises a concern, since migraine patients present an increased cardiovascular risk…." See the actual reference for much more on this. What would be great to see is some active Pharmaceutical company research on how the good old Fioricet and Fiorinal medications are so effective, and then work to safely remove the barbiturate from them to prevent dependency of those prone to addiction. I believe that all the barbiturate does is make one sleepy to offset the effects of the caffeine ingredient, which acts as a vasoconstrictor, which to me can also easily be replaced by other ingredients besides caffeine to give similar results. Pharmaceutical Companies charge so much for these 'new' drugs under the guise of needing to cover their R&D costs, instead of improving on the old known helpful medications that actually work, I think because it gives them an excuse of R&D to charge $8k+ for a new medication as opposed to trying to come up with a story as to why they'd like to exorbitantly hike the price of an old medication so that they can keep their shareholders happy. Can't you simply reformulate the old medications that are effective and call it good and then say that you spent a lot of R&D on those, and then you can charge the crazy high prices that you need to make a lot of money, all the while getting us all some much needed relief? Please don't get me wrong, I don't agree with drug companies charging exorbitant prices, this I believe has in part led to the disaster that our medical system is in today in our country, but for the all the people that are suffering I'm sure they'd do just about anything to find relief. Please also use ingredients that don't cause kidney, liver or cardiovascular problems later on. Thanks!

I am almost through my 2nd dose. I am a new person! I'm serious. I have a brand new outlook on life. I was having 25 or more migraines a month. Pretty much totally house bound and on disability. So....there is no reason not to try the 2 free trials. Not everyone is the same. What have you got to lose? I can tell you what I had to lose. EVERYTHING! Suicide was a very real possibility if something didn't change soon. And the risks and side effects of topamax, depakote, propanolol, sumatriptan, not to mention my cocktail of xanax, benadryl and Norflex, Botox I'm pretty sure outweigh that of Aimovig once a month. And yes, I'm on all of these medications. Not to mention all of the NSAIDS, narcotics over the years that have already done their damage. Oh wait... I can't even count or remember the trips to the ER. I'm thinking if Aimovig will keep doing this for me and I can get off of these other horrible medications, I'll risk it.

I have had migraines for 40 years, some yrs worse then others. I just saw this past week all about this new drug. Been looking up everything I can on it. I have been on every kind of med there is out there, the one thing that really worked for me was sumatriptan Auto injectable. It was great having something for the first time in my life that worked that wouldn't make me feel drugged. I was on it for about three years, that's when the drug manufacturer changed the medication. First it was in a little gray box, then it was like the bee sting shots. The gray box ones worked great... Then came the day of the new ones! It was my husband who would give the shots to me. The migraines would always make it difficult to see. On October 22 2016 he gave me this new shot, after 5 mins. Asked if I was ok, I was. After 10 mins. I was not, my mind felt flooded, the room was spinning, my husband and friend can in and asked how I was doing, I said not sure... but I guess that is not what said.. I was mumbling, and not able to talk very well. My mouth is drooping and numb, the left side of my body was numb. I was having a stroke. 20 mins. I was at the hospital, still a little bit confused and not able to speak and pissed. 30 mins. Able to speek and move.. but numb. Still pissed.. 60 mins. I could talk just fine, I could walk a little, smile still very pissed!! What happen.. days later... heart find carotid artery fine blood work fine, the only thing they said they could find is that my cholesterol was slightly elevated. My only conclusion is that it was from the sumatriptan Auto injectable.

      T. Smith this is true, Fioricet does work for me. However as soon as they change an old med in any way. It becomes a new med. It will have to go through all the regulations all over again. Sucks, but it is what it is. I do find it odd tho, so many different meds and Fioricet an old medication works very well. So does cbd.

I'm really anxious to try this. But it's taking so long to get my trials from them. I've been on topamax forever and now added Depakote and Botox with still trips to the ER. I'm on disability because of migraines and tinnitus. You're exactly right. People don't see migraines as a disease. You become very lonely with this disease. People have no idea how disabling they are. They just don't know what to do or say. And it's not their fault. I'm back up to anywhere from 20 to 25 a month, sometimes every day. My tinnitus is just as disabling. Suicide seems like a pretty good idea sometimes. So then comes the antidepressants. Talk about all the side effects....
