Indo Guyanese were kept out of public service jobs by the pnc dictatorship. The public service jobs were seen as respectable, you dressed properly, you were groomed, you spoke a certain way, you associated and hung out at the nicer spots, you were often bribed for a passport, birth certificate, drivers license... Meanwhile, indo Guyanese were forced to become rice farmers, cash crop farmers, fishermen, cane cutters... They were look at being uneducated, uncivilized, not dressed appropriately, spoke differently... Dispite the racism, discrimination, segregation, oppression, subjugation, suppression,... they were able to become successful by hardwork, dedication, sacrifice, commitment, courage, determination, patience, law-abiding... It is in their DNA to progress and develop.
