About how to propagate, please check Fraser Valley’s video: ua-cam.com/video/211r10Jj_OY/v-deo.html Except the black stems, some cuttings look great about the soil, with firm leaves and even new growth. I actually have no idea why they didn’t root at all.

Thank you for showing such beautiful plants.
Bro it was very usefull
Thanks! Glad I helped!!
三點沒說到。1.底土植株放置後,要固定植株(綁牢)。2.填土後要用竹筷將新土插實,讓介質和根系密合。3.換盆後除了避植射光外,也要避風,減少水份蒸散。
Hi there, how are these plants doing now? I would love to see an update? I have just germinated some myself and I am very excited!
I moved to a new home a month after this sowing, and then repoted them into bigger pots in 2023 summer (about 10 months ago), Unfortunately only ONE survived. All the rest died in the transfer. I think the pots are too big and it was too hot. Now the only survivor is doing well. About 20cm tall and with around 8 leaves. They should take off when the temperature rises in the coming months.

杜鵑洗根換盆,最好剪除一半葉子,同時置於陰涼高濕環境中(溫室浴室套透明塑膠袋等等),等到有新芽生長,再恢復正常養護。
Hi thanks for the video, do they have peony flowers at this market?
Yes, they do, but not this season. Usually from April to June for cutting herbaceous peonies. Or during January to February, they would have tree peony in containers.
The Asian cymbidiums, even with the media you have, still have root rot problems with my experience. Was it because of the media containing some bacteria which may be aggravated by surrounding temperature? A lot of people would conclude the problem caused by over watering, but I did not and I still had root rots. It could be caused by the water content too. What do you think?
The root rot is really an annoying problem. It occurs more in hot summers with high humidity too. The bacterial and/or fungal infection is the main cause. I tend to sanitise the potting medium and the roots sometimes (by using fungicide) before potting them, but not every time. Regularly using fungicide is a common practice in the cymbidium farm as a prevention, but if you don't want to do it, I guess I will just have to accept the fact that a certain percentage of them will die anyway. It's hard to take but every summer, with more and more extreme heat (35 to 40 celcius, and 80% humidity), I will lost 3 to 4 out of 16 of my cymbidium. It happens every year. So the prevention is: 1) fungicide, regularly use (every 2 weeks). 2) ventilation, more air flow, 3) lower the temperature if it's over 30 degree celcius. 4) stop using fertiliser in the hot months. 5) treat the potting mix and roots before potting, with fungicide spray, or KMn04 solution, or baking the mix, 6) don't bury the pseudobulbs too deep, let them stay above the substrate, dont't let water go into the centre of the crown. I hope this could help you.
I'm obsessed with Chinese cymbidiums and it's so hard to find growers on UA-cam. Also I love Shanghai so it's a win-win. ❤
Thanks for the support! I'm by no means an expert in any sense, but just like to share how I grow them. I think there are plenty of UA-cam contents about how to grow them, most of them are in Chinese, but if that's not a barrier for you, definitely give them a try!
@@proletariatsgarden It is a barrier for me! I've travelled in China but I have a vocabulary of like three words pronounced badly. (Ma, ma, and ma. ;)) I only very recently got into Chinese cymbidiums so you know lots more than me I'm very grateful you're making videos in English. Could you give me the Chinese characters for the plant to use in search? I'd really appreciate it. I'll watch the videos anyway if I can find them, maybe pick up a little vocabulary at the same time. That would be nice if it happened. And you're welcome. :)
@@sia9907 Ah yes, no problem! Cym. goeringii is 春兰 Cym. faberi is 蕙兰 Cym. ensifolium is 建兰 Cym. kanran is 寒兰 Or in general, you can search 国兰, which means Chinese orchid, that would be including all the listed above. And here are some UA-camrs that talk about Cyms. @cat69942 @shizhen I'm sure there are more, but I hope these will help you.
@@proletariatsgarden Thank you! I really appreciate the names and the info. That was very kind of you.
Thanks for sharing
Hi. Do you sell the seed?
Hi, Theresa. I'm sorry I don't sell the seeds. They have been planted already. But maybe you could try some local gardens or parks, because wintersweet trees are quite common globally.
Interesting 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
wow that’s so cool didn’t even know they produced fruit
Cym. goeringii has the strictest requirements, so I am not surprised that the problematic plants are all Cym. goeringii. Cym goeringii "Wan Zi" is one of the easiest goeringii to grow and bloom, together with Cym. goeringii "Long Zi". These 2 traditional varieites are the easiest. I'm surprised that Cym. goeringii "song mei" died back, it is very easy and is one of the most robust Chinese varieties. Cym goeringii Zhu Jin Hua (orange flower), be careful, I don't know the source, if it is truly an orange flower? If it is an orange flower, special techniques are required (from end of July all the way to just before the flower blooms in the spring) so they will bloom orange. I just came back from Taiwan and Cymbidium vendors are selling "Zhu Jin Hua" and all the flowers are blooming green (so either fake varieities or improper techniques, most likely fake). I only collect orange flower varieties (Japanese varieites) and they all bloom true (I bloom them every year). I have been told by Taiwanese Cym vendors that all the East Asian Cymbidium (ensifolium, sinense, goeringii) are pretty much fake now because the market has changed after Covid. Pre-Covid, Taiwan sold a lot of Cymbidiums commercially to Mainland China. During Covid, no sell, so the farmers destroyed many cymbidiums. Right now, the Cymbidium market is very bad in Taiwan (the plants are too cheap, they don't make money). He told me that unless you purchase the old traditional varieites such as Cym. goeringii "song mei", Cym. goeringii "long Zi", Cymbidium "wan Zi", everything else are pretty much fake. This applies for Cym. sinense and Cym. ensifoliium. Many variegated Cym sinense and Cym. ensifolium varieties are fake "not the variety they claim to be". Some of the traditional varieites increased in price because they destroyed all the plants, so it's very hard to find a plant (if you can find one). I suspect that many exported to North America or Europe are all fake varieties now (exported from Taiwan).
Yes. All of these are purchased before the pandemic and has flowered properly. The reason I repotted them in another type of medium is that after I relocated them, they seems suffering from low moisture (previously pure tree barks). All of these are purchased in China as I’m currently living here. And, yes, I’ve bought some ‘fake’ ones too then I learned how to buy them from a trustworthy vendor. So currently they are all good. This spring, none of the goeringii will flower, but I hope them to grow more pseudo bulbs.
@@proletariatsgarden Where do you live in China? You should grow them outdoor as much as possible. They love outdoor, hates indoor. You should be able to find "orchid stones" for East Asian Cymbidiums in China. They are more expensive. However, I was been told that there are many fake media (bad quality ones) in China. I only purchase mine from Japan.
@@candychan3106 I live in shanghai. They are perfect to grow outdoors, but I don’t have an outdoor space. The vendor is a very old nursery in Nanjing, so far so good, can’t complain.
An update after 4 months: ua-cam.com/video/ilhWbkaHv6A/v-deo.html
cool
The pots are way too big for these Cymbidiums when the roots are not so good, smaller Asian Cymbidium Pots should be used. Any plants with not so good roots should be potted in crane pot #30 or #35. Satsuma rock is too dry, it doesn't retain water at all. The potting mix should be hard kanuma based. I only use pre-mixed potting materials from japan (a blend of hard kanuma, fired akadama, and satsuma). Most of the materials is hard kanuma. What you are doing is pretty much 50% pumice (satsuma in this case) and 50% bark, from what I observe from other growers, the result is hit and miss and very hard to bloom. For C. goeringii and C. faberi, this is growing conditions: Spring: 15C average, water every 9-10 days, 75% shade Summer: 25C-30C, water every 5-6 days, 90% shade Fall: 15C average, water every 9-10 days, 75% shade Winter: 0C-10C at all times, water every 14 days, 50% shade Humidity must be 50%-70% at all times. My Japanese East Asian Cymbidium vendor told me to never use liquid fertlizer, only slow release fertlizer. You want to grow them outdoor as much as possible. This is the presentation I did and it's available on youtube ua-cam.com/video/YDhcNei0Ziw/v-deo.html I bloom my C. goeringii every year, no problem.
Thank you for your insight!! 😊😊
