3.4 liter running hot? Try this!
2004 3.4 liter Pontiac Grand Am.. Running hot problems after about 1000 dollars spent on heads, gaskets, bolts, heli coil kits due to stripping a few bolts in my block. New thermostat water pump pulley, belt tensioner arm. Ect. Car will run hot if I don't have my a/c on.. I think it's due to the radiator fan, higher speed. But so far so good. Car runs GREAT!

Hold the friggin' camera steady!
Perhaps you need to flush that rusty radiator water n put coolant 😅
Or u could use the radiator purge valve it’s located on front left of engine on top and at the end of that 5” hose that has a 90 on it there a little screw that u unscrew a little and it will purge out the air. Least on my alero
You saved my ass. It fixed the issue, I had absolutely no idea and I was about to start throwing money into it replacing old parts.
Yeah I didn't know that you had to bleed the air out thanks of how to do it .
My car pissing out the over flo and i just changed thermostat and did a radiator fush .
DAMN!!!! Thanks a ton
Very nice caro i have a 97 Pontiac grand am 3.1 L It has 238,000 miles on It and still running well i brought it from Florida to Querétaro México in 2009 AND i still have It here in my little villege in México.
I have a 97 Grand Am GT , can I ask you do you ever have small coolant leak. I think mine might be coming from the refill tank area. I'm embarrassed you got that many miles , mine has only 57 thousand, and what brand of motor oil do you use. Thanks.
@@alfx5432 good morning!! Check your tank CAP refiil coolant sometimes It Is dameged or the complete tank coolant migh be remplaced but be sure where the liks come from before to remplace pices. And About the motor oil your car has a few miles so use the oil 5w 30 AND when your car has 120,000 you can use 10w 40 AND It works good. Good look with you nice Pontiac take care of It.
@@RogelioChavez-j9zThanks . I don't drive the car that much. I was trying to see where the leak was coming from. But it seems it only leaks a little after the car has been parked in the garage. I hope it's not a hard fix
i changed the thermostat on my car, new coolant resivoir, flushed the system out of the radiator and the engine block about 6 times, bled all the air out. it doesnt break 200 at idle but it rapitdly increases after i drive around the block a few times even with the fans circulating air, and has white smoke coming out the exhaust but it fluctuates. sometimes it pours out white smoke, sometimes it doesnt smoke at all. could it be a blown headgasket?
Is your engine oil white?
how often must i bleed the air out
Just had a pressure test a firestone, didn't change anything...
What got fixed? Started st 200° ended st 200° patted himself on the back..
N1
What if it nothing coming out only when you hit the accelerator
I just had a new engine put in but my Oldsmobile Alero 3.4 is still running hot and is no cooling in the reservoir after I just put it in the other day what do you think my problem is.
Thank you so much!
All Im getting out that hose is steam. What should I do?
Awesome... if it doesn't work for others ... I would say it's a problem with your ECM or PCM... I had the same problem and it was because the fans are not kicking on due to the temperature coolant sensor not activating the fans... The coolant temperature sensor is supposed to activate the fans to keep the coolant circulated at about 190. Turn on the air conditioner and the fans will come on because the air conditioner system requires the fans to work in order for the AC to properly work. As long as you have your heat or air conditioner turned on the fans will come on but they will not come on by the temperature coolant sensor relaying it the information. People just tie the fans and directly to a toggle switch on the dash and run the fans 24-7x
Uk u can be less sloppy about adding fluid. 😂
Don't they run a 190 or 195 thermostat so around 200 is about normal
Why not just leave the cap off and go for a 30 mile ride!!
Good advice
You keep coolant or water in the motor
My hose next to the cap came off..I don’t know what it connected to..can anyone help?
... on what kind of vehicle a GM with a 3.4 V6? there's like a dozen or so configurations for that coolant reservoir and the hoses. My coolant reservoir tank on my 2004 Buick Rendezvous, with a 3.4 v6, only has one hose going to it. But it's on the right hand side of the engine, when looking at from the front.
There's a thermostat bypass hose with a bleeder on it that's how the General motors manual says to bleed the air from the system all you need is a 10 mmwrench and a 1/4" drive with a 7mm socket
Thanks buddy lol hope u got a bucket and funnel in the future u just helped me tho
Can anyone tell me do I have both line and Reservoir cap before starting the car
So you just pour a bunch of distilled water in there until you see a steady stream? And then you fill it back up with coolant? And what are bleeder screws?
There are two bleeder screws that you can loosen that allows the air to escape once the car is warm, coolant will start to shoot out of the little orifices when the air is purged out.
@@lucidbarrierh how often must i bleed the air out
hey, do you have any videos on flushing thye radiator and cooling system on a gm 3400 6 cyl? i have a 04 chevy monte carlo 3400 ls thqt im planing on changing thermostat and using tht Blue Demond gasket sealer
where is the line right next to radiator cap supposed to be connected too
Thanks this helped. My problem was that the previous owner had both hoses on reservoir backwards
200 isn't hot, that's where they normally run at. In your owners manual tells you that.
Temp gauge at cluster is at 200 which is normal..my 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT with 91,217 is sitting in my garage stored from the salt awaiting next year spring time..
Can you tell me where the hose form the back of the coolant reservoir goes to please and thank you
Wife's car has been over heating. Service engine light on. Saw this video before going to buy a thermostat and waterpump. Did this took about 15 min of idle before and liquid came out and finally did solid stream. Wife's car is no longer over heating. And engine light went off.. Thanks for this video saved me a massive amount of time and money. Now instead of turning wrenches on my vacation off work. I can drink beer. This beer is for you good sir.
of course nothing comes up with a code reader when it says service engine soon!! its just an oil change reminder.. its not the check engine light
Nope there’s a dedicated light for the change oil soon
google says dexcool eats 3400s head gaskets,,,so......? was told to run old green stuff
Is it normal for the fans to kick on at 220 degrees?
Yes, my 04 Chevy Impala will turn on the cooling fans at 215 degrees F and back off when it cools down to 195. But if you press the button to run the air conditioning it will keep the fans on to keep air moving through the A/C condenser.
Just to let you know I watch this video and did all the things and I was heating up still and didn't know that that would help it breathe that way I have a different method and it didn't work this one did I appreciate it good work
You might want change your oxygen sensor and see if that turns off the check engine light make sure you always disconnect the battery when put it in i cant remember if you disconnect both cords though you might want look that up because it been so long since i have worked on that year of car it keeps you frying anything cause it will rest your computer and stuff that car runs on
WATER PUMP IS WEAK OR UR HEAT SENSOR UNIT IS SHOT
No. These engines have huge problems and suck to bleed. It's the way it is buddy
Water is just fine ..if the weather is above freezing...
NOT
@@kennieb5606 plus not equals not ..I ran many of vehicles without anti freeze..
And you know what ..I change my oil..when it needs it ..not when some idiot light says too
Lmao yeah go ahead put water in a motor like this. Iron and water have never had a problem before 😂 go be "smart" somewhere else. Or actually learn something not just think you know it all
@@JoeMamasLover69 its aluminum ass wipe
Turn your jug sideways and you won't spill any liquid when filling up.
200 is normal temp.
Bleeder screws...these gm engines haft to be bleeded...if not they will run hot going down the road
200 to 210 degrees is normal for those GM engines The engineers like 'em to run a little warm.
TO WARM
@@kennieb5606 the safe operating temp is up to 220 Fahrenheit any more then that is too hot

Actually I got a Pontiac grand am for 17 years, and sometime city driving they do run a bit hot,it's normal on those cars and won't harm them..
tap water and its mineral eventually weaken a hose pliability n shorten their life. thats why freeze is so slimy feeling. just sayin. thx for vid n tips. im battling the same beast. 👍
Grand am's run at 200 . that is the normal grand am tempature.
I dont get it
Soo 200° is to hot?? Mine sits at 200 sometimes a few notches below
