Morecambe Parade filmed in 1898 It was shot by William Henry Youdale of Cockermouth, Cumberland. A draper by trade, he was also a magic lantern operator who, off his own bat, made several forays into film - the new media of its day. Enjoy.

The market fire was terrible
Wonderful Olimpic Swimming pool. Demolished for no good reason. Jumped off the top board. Shit. I didn't surface for five minutes.
Look out for Mr Pastry. Everyone gravitate towards the camera. Today it would be totally ignored. Wonder what the flag on the left is. Union flag on right.

I've seen the Mitchell and Kenyon film of Morecambe, but never seen this before. Makes you wonder just how much film there is out there that's just sitting in someone's loft or will won't be made public because the owner dosen't want or for reasons of copyright (which for a 100 yr plus film shouldn't apply). This need a 4k upscale and colourisation.
