But, I just got an email from Avid for Avid Studio with a perpetual license. If $40 a month is gonna kill you look at another software. It’s that simple. If your going to Berkelee your throwing more money away than 40$ a month.

I work in a post prod studio during the day in a big studio. For projects I do at home I use Reaper. Reaper in its stock form is an ok DAW. But it is somewhat of an "open source" DAW and there is an infinite number of tweeks, scripts, functions created by enthusiasts out there that will enable you to turn your Reaper into an incredible production software that basically does anything in a very efficient way. I can confidently say that if you go through the path of pimping your version of Reaper you will end up with a super powerful and versatile DAW. If you are into post production, scoring to picture, doing sound effects, or even mixing a full fledged movie, Reaper can do it for about 1% of the price Pro Tools. This is because apart from the entry fee which is a ridiculous 60$, it comes with hundreds if not thousands of free powerful plugins. It's a bit like Linux vs Windows. It is constantly evolving and getting more and more powerful. Check it out!

i cant agree with you more ive only really been getting into pro tools for the last 8 months. but the topic of value vs cost constantly is discussed. for some reason i sort of fell into the you have to be using pro tools to be accepted as a serious dude. it was hard to turn the corner with reaper but ive spent a lot of time learning what i use dont use etc. i use a couple custome scripts that really help my workflow and its great. thiers still some pro tools snobs out there. but if avid is only after money....which is obvious they are. we must be missing something because for the last year ive heard so many people, alot of long term users, saying im done. yes the artist version will bring some new customers but i feel as they gain more experience they too will leave for a daw with a better feature set. im not a harvard grad lol but its diffa cult to see what thier endgame is.

Avid are an absolute disgrace behaving like just another corporation run by people in suits who couldn't give a damn about music production but they're only hell bent on making money! I've been a loyal Protools user since purchasing a Digi001 in 2001 and I will now be leaving the platform in disgust after paying 2 years of subscription for nothing more than a few dark mode! I'll be very happy to move over to Reaper thanks to its customisation options and Avid are doing to Protools what Gibson did to Opcode Studio Vision and destroying it from within! I've used Logic Pro X since 2013 and haven't paid for a single upgrade besides after updating my imac. I'm more than happy to pay for upgrades if they add new features, but not simply to remain a member of the club so to speak! If Avid want to behave like some World Economic Forum charlatan where they want us to own nothing but be happy then they've lost me for good and there's plenty of competition out there! Shame on you Avid you greedy corporate grub!

renting software sucks.

People will use what they outside of pro tools and would get just as much or more done. It looks like folks stay saying pro tools is a industrial standard I get it back it’s studios and home studios using other daws to get their work done. A lot of people go by what they see and hear from others without doing their research. I think you’ve pretty much nailed how people may step away from pro tools and use other daws as well as how people are doing their thing which I’m a Engineer that do Mobile recording then work on stuff at home. What’s up Ray Dope Video 👍🏾 Yeah Avid is not thinking about the up coming producer or artist it’s all about big projects and or major companies making big money.. I to love Pro tools but I also use Cubase, Ableton, FL Studio, Studio one, Waveform and those other DAWs companies officer more then avid there subscription only model is in my opinion going to hurt them in the long run because pro tools features is falling behind other cheaper daws out there!
