What kind of lure or bait did you put in the bucket
I appreciate your video. Thanks. 👍
Great video lots of information but this setup is 100% illegal in New York State so you are correct everybody should check their regulations.
Thanks bro
Thanks for the video I’d forgotten how to do this set- appreciate it great job
What bait do you use / prefer ?
If I'm using the 220 for a multi set ie coon, possum, and cats. I use whatever meat I have on hand. Deer meat, duck or goose meat, Freezer burnt meat. But I also use feathers of my own chickens or waterfowl we clean for a visual in and outside of the trap. Great for cats
If it's below freezing, I soak or grind the meat with glycol so it won't freeze
Great info !
The spring safety getting caught at an odd angle in the trap can be a real pain. A large screwdriver helps but you don't want to change the angle any. Connibear teaps are great but they scare me somwhat.
You talk alot
Great video young man, like it very much, Thanks J J Huro
If you bent your triggers in towards inside the bucket would that get a deeper body catch? I have a couple of small 110’s I bought for muskrat. I figured it try this set up for small possum. In case I have a raccoon visit my setup I figured if the triggers were bent in towards the inside of the bucket I’d get a deeper catch around their heads vs snapping their noses?
Is it ok to get the 220 model or a 300+?
Great video, thanks! New subscriber here
Do some snaring set ups. Please
Nicely done video. I appreciate your humble attitude as opposed to the "this is my way, there is no other way" stuff some folks put out. Thank you.
Thanks!!! When it comes to trapping, there is always many ways to do all sets!!
@@archeryassassins5402 I've been doing this setup for about 25yrs. on the farm and have a few tips. I use round buckets which are cheap and easy to use. I cut the slits going to handle support just wide enough so springs fit snug. Hard to get just right so now I use short, round bunge cords going from spring to back of bucket. 2 cords last a long time, quick and easy. Next is to cut a round fence post in half and bend a 90* end making 2 stakes. Drill holes at top and bottom of bucket in the middle, larger than the stake. The stake now goes through the top and bottom of bucket and through the ring at end of chain till 90* presses on top of bucket. Bucket is stable and trap is secure by stake. I often attach a seperate chain going from ring under bucket to something solid but never needed it. I use 1/2 can of cat food that is placed behind stake with a little dab on the lid at entrance of bucket. Simple, quick, stable and very effective. Your tongs are square cut and very hard to use when trying to release your catch. Grind that square corner off till you have a nice hook to reach in easier to grab ahold of the spring. Good video, Thanks.
A little trick when using these kitty litter buckets. Keep the lid. It is kind of " hinged " with a small side and a big side. Usually you open the big side to scoop out the litter then seal the bucket back up I cut off the big side and leave the small side attached to the bucket This reduces the opening and again forces the coon down and centered on the trap. It also forces then to go more face-first into the bucket and it will somewhat eliminate larger dogs from working the set if you misplace it too close to a residential area or wild dogs are in your area. They dislike crouching too much to get at the bait I've even run these with the large side of the lid still attached and extended out creating more length to the box and again discouraging dogs. Just a tip
Would this work for groundhogs?
I don't see why it wouldn't!! I don't have them here but that 220 bucket set will work!!
Good video nice and simple to the point
If I didn't do this myself, I would not have caught you saying it. I had to laugh out loud when you said at the end, the two things cool about this set are "A" it's easy, and "2" you can catch multiple animals. Lol. I usually do the opposite. I start out with "1" then say "B" Lol. Great video, and would love to see more. Peace, Mo
Lol. Thanks. Yeah, I think it's that old country mentality. We haven't done many vids lately. Life is soooo busy
I have video's of bobcats and raccoons on my deer cam and would like to try that setup but we also have neighbors that have house cats that roam and i have them on camera as well . I really don't want to catch the house cats , but thanks for the know how video 🙂
Outstanding
Thanks for the video very nice
Let him live to see another day? 😉
Yes, he's still running around
How about Groundhogs?
They have ground hog traps. Might check those out.
@@archeryassassins5402 Since I posted I since gotten a Conibear 220 trap with a setting tool. Also built a box with a screen on the end so I can set the trap and put the box next to the groundhog hole and the shed. I set everything up this way so no other animals can set the trap off and accidentally get killed. But I never got a chance to use it because I never seen the groundhogs anymore. Someone around where I live must have poisoned them.
@@100PercentOS2 ground hogs hibernate in the winter
Thanks for the information, I had a Fisher Cat kill 6 chickens 1 roster, and 3 ducks this month. I bought two of these traps. Any recommendations on how to set it up for a Fisher Cat? I'm using the Duck carcass as bait :(
Great info 👍
Should I flare out the trigger like yours? I have a new one and they’re just straight down unlike yours.
Sarah, you will need to spread them out like I show in the video. The reason for doing this is so the trigger doesn't hit the animal in the face while trying to access the bucket. Instead the trigger hits the top or back of the neck/back area, resulting in a body catch and not a miss.
I like using this set for cats and smaller critters, caught 43 coon and 3 cats on this set last season, definitely an effective set, no doubt!!
How about unwanted critters e.g. house cats ,pole cats, dogs and other trash?
Yes!! This trap system works great for that!
New to the trapping this year... Is this the same set that works for coyote? Thanks for the info!
No. This set is for coon, cat, possum and skunk. I've only caught 1 yote in a 220 bucket set. It's very very rare. They are to smart to go in. Footholds are the way to trap yotes
Please check out our channel. I do have vlogs explaining how to set for yotes
Thanks for the video man! I bought the stuff to build one of these today. Gonna try it out tomorrow.
How did it work out? Catch any critters?
@@archeryassassins5402 well it took a little while, but I did end up cathing a huge skunk that only had 3 legs in it. It was very cool! Gonna go check again in a little while...
@@trapsquatch4937 there is alot that goes into trapping a certain critter. I don't explain any of this on this vlog post. Only how to set up a 220 bucket set. If your wanting to trap coon, find a creek with water. I don't know if you live north or south but when it freezes and gets cold for awhile, coons den up. I might have to make a few set vlogs on where to set or make the trap areas. Any other questions, please dont hesitate to ask!!!
@@archeryassassins5402 Thank you brother, I appreciate it! Can a cubby set take a fox? This is my first year trappimg, and have yet to score on any canines or cats. Still trying to figure stuff out. Haha
@@trapsquatch4937 It's all good bud, a cubby set is targeting cats and coons. You catch foxes just like yotes
Just playing "Devil's advocate" here, but maybe the guy has a disability that does not allow him to walk in. He may have a heart condition or such. I will drive a four wheeler somewhat close to my hunting area, on MY property as it is the only way for me to get out into the woods. I am 64 years old, and have lymphedema in both legs and am limited in walking. I would rather make a little noise getting in than not getting out at all. Being that he also climbed into a stand that indicates he wasn't at least out there just to ruin your hunt. Sorry that it happened to you, but usually there are two sides to every story. And even if he was fit and able, it is HIS property to do as he wishes.
Good video
