Beautiful!!!
This Woman is the best !!! She’s a new Ella & Nina Simon & Carman McRae !!!👏
Absolutely love this!!!
WOW with humor and exquisite phrasing , she is awesome ♥
Andrea also said this beautifully and accurately: "Cecile McLorin Salvant has tapped into the very essence of every jazz singer who came before her". That is exactly how I perceive her also. She's something else!
I hear all the greatest greats reflected in her, tho I cannot agree that Betty and Sarah were "swingless and boring"(!) It's as though she contains and transmits w/astonishing effortlessness, intelligence, uniqueness, dexterity, and playfulness, all of her predecessors in a way I think they would approve of, b/c pretty hard to critique. Love her. Her ego is just the right size too, and her sense of humor and warmth totally present! I could go on awhile obviously. I agree with you Andrea that "She is the quintessential jazz singer of the Millennium". And I would not say such a thing lightly nor without taking a year or two to listen and assess! The girl is a true phenomenon and we're only just seeing the beginning.
indeed! and Samara Joy joins the new school singin Old School
Lyric by Al Dubin. Thank you.
Still one of the top prettiest / coolest out of all survivors.
Fabulous !
Great wow why can't I sang something ,and don't even start me on this scatting lol lol🔥🎙🎶🎹🍎
I used to like jazz but now Cecile makes me love it. She is great!
Boy, did she ruin a great song. Get back to school, girl. This is not singing.
Excellent Work!!!!
Reminds me of my Sarah.
AMAZING!
Cecile, be fair to human singers!
that scat!!! I love her voice!
Thank you Cecile,et all
My wedding song!
Cecile does a wonderful handling of this standard. She is a true gem and deserves all the accolades she is only now getting. Just wonderful!

Ha! I thought she was a hairdresser as well!!! I was originally looking for a tutorial on how to create her modern beachy waves. So much for REALITY!!! DOY me!
So, so, so, so fine. I can die peacefully, now, knowing this voice exists.
WOW! Amazing - just came upon Cecile after seeing the New Yorker article. Stunning talent!
I thought she was a hairdresser???
i only have eyes to Cecile ! <3
This lady has it all!
I am dying to hear her live. She is masterful.
Omgosh this video is IMPECCABLE! I AM HAPPY FOR YOU AND YOUR NEW MARRIAGE JOURNEY . TEARS!
Powerhouse jazz!
She just does all the old greats so proudly but still has her own voice. Here she reminds me of Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan. Can't wait to see her in concert. The greats would have been proud of her carrying on their legacy. Even critical Betty would have loved Cecile!
yes
What a beautiful ordination! I'm so happy, and blessed to have witnessed my brother, Bob's, ordination. Congratulations to all of the new deacons of the Diocese of Charleston, SC. May God continue to watch over and bless each of you in your new vocation.
Beautifully done!!! 😙
Cecile McLorin Salvant has tapped into the very essence of every jazz singer who came before her. On this playful romp through "I Only Have Eyes for You," I hear a lot of Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan. She is the quintessential jazz singer of the Millennium.
+Andrea McNeely Absolutely! I just heard her for the first time tonight and she has captured me. I caught her Vaughn changes on another tune, but here the Carter influence, or rather invocation, is audible too. Her opening to this song, though playful, was astonishing mature. She has complete control and intention in her phrasing. Music like this keeps me alive...
Thanks, Dave... glad you agree with me. Be blessed.
you got that right ! amazing !
No she doesn't resemble Betty or Sarah. Rachelle Ferrelle is more like it. So swingless and boring. They are in love with the sound of their own formidable voices but have no idea how to tell a story.
Hey guys, a greater foundation has never been layed, than 'Ella'...just sayin 😊😊@@TheGuyAtDrawsOn
Luuuuv her improvs, great voice, great stage personality, you go woman!
ES DIVINO SU CANTO ,RUEGO QUE NO TOME CAMINOS QUE INTERUMPAN ESTA HERMOSA VOZ .-.-.-.-.--.-
She needs to do a duet with Ledisi stat. Ledisi can scat with the best of them. The duet would be spectacular.
I had the same thought!!!
beuuuuurkkkk !..........
She is talented but this Betty Carter’s style is annoying. At least she is not a cabaret or pop singer.
+Ricardo da Mata Yes, she doesn't really pull it off, kind of the Macy's version of Sassy and Betty C. i.e., The quality is pretty good but the originality is definitely of the copy cat variety. She needs a bit more "sass" in her presentation style to pull off the "sassy" type rendition.....But she is good, not trying to pick her apart but I'd want to see her in ten years or so.
LOVE her - she is like they say - all the legends rolled into one but she is her own unique artist and brings her own style, absolutely fabulous! Took my 12 year old daughter to see her last night - what an inspiration, she sang all the way home..and on the way to school this morning. Her voice takes you on a journey, thank you Cecil for inspiring us all!
and she scats..... my , oh , my.... i love this!
she reminds me so much of Miss Betty Carter!
I hear Betty all the way.
Our next Haitian International STARLETTE!
Fabulous!!!!! Bravo! I love the greats of old....but I thank God for the new greats!
Great voice and personality. Love it!
She's a culmination of the great female jazz vocalists and yet, so original! LOVE HER!!
YEAAAAAAAAH
she is Ella, Sarah, Betty, Blossom, a lil Billie all rolled into one
You forget Mc Rae...there´s a bit too!!!!!
islezeus: Amen
LaNoire27 Hughes mm
I hear Betty Carter too... a lot!
