It’s the best film I’ve ever seen. Ok I’m a west wing junky, love Nixon, W., Parkland, Vice, .... etc etc. But make no mistake, this guy and his team, ... saved the world. It’s a great depiction, even though the real McNamara said it was inaccurate, I don’t care, he couldn’t comment on the private communications between ‘the family’ and O’Donnell. I don’t care how it was embellished, the son of O’Donnell conferred on this. That’s good enough for me. Largely unknown, but great film.
Remember this team also has includes some Soviets who didn’t want a war and were fighting a similar battle to Kennedy and his doves “It was as much a victory for them as it was for us”
They didn't "save the world" imo, they were partly responsible for putting it at risk in the first place. The Russian version of this happened a few months prior when we put Jupiter Missiles into Turkey. They were asking themselves the same questions the US team was here: what do we do to both signal our independence and authority while avoiding war? Their response was to put missiles in Cuba. Both sides were at fault here. Both sides deserve credit for getting us out of this mess.
