This is either the final cut for the film or this is August 16, 1988 instead. There is no way first recording sessions would take place that close to release in November 1989.
Wow!! My favourite Disney song , it’s absolutely effortless to her to sing that.
😢
I think of my dead sister with this song ❤
aw i’m sorry to hear that
Her sister has an awesome voice too!
"Its about all that emotion, but NOT letting it out. Having it in here." Insane direction, was completely able to guide her into perfection
04:16 - "Every little breath you take is enormous" ... "not letting out the emotion" . They should have learned from this clip when they did the real life version. I felt so disappointed in the 2023 movie... the songs were a "karaoke" edition of all the animated ones; I am even thinking in Sebastian, during "Under the Sea" imitating the deep voice because no other fish is singing... pure karaoke moment. ... How important was Howard Ashman to lock up all the power and maestry of Jodi Benson so we could have a beautiful story arc in Ariel.
Halle Bailey’s incredible singing. How could you possibly have a problem with that?
I LOVE this video. I come back to enjoy often.
Goosebumps ❤ I wish one day they'll bring out a live action that truly captures our childhood classic mermaid.
New black fake mermaid scks period
Did you not hear her sing you racist monster?
That must be so difficult to have to keep redoing it trying to do it exactly how they want
Love that tr❤she a great singer and a great Trisa.she is
The amount of subtle direction to get the exact level of emotion and intensity, WITHOUT trying to be too performative. Holy crap, this is one of my favorite videos ever
So cool to see Jodi Benson in her element. Halle Berry truly learned from a legend. She did a wonderful job as the new Ariel. Halle Bailey Always see the sweet person not the color. I learned to do that for sure and not care that it was not drawn like Ariel. She did very good! So glad equality is shining everywhere. Also, I will one day teach my kids especially if I have a daughter to show this movie in no way is trying to say kids know more than their parents, it's just a fun movie. Ariel learned to not disobey her father, and she changed his point of view. She didn't rub it in his face at the end, he loved her unconditionally. Great classic.
I love Jodi! She made my childhood so bright I watched the story of PJ sparkles and the little mermaid every day over and over 😂❤
I came here to listen to her voice. I was not expecting to be so impressed by the guy next to her trying to explain the subtle story telling aspect of her singing style to be perfectly conveyed into the film That guy is amazing. He really gets it.
The original take was good though?
Iconic. Both Jodi Benson AND Howard Ashman!
angelic voice!
White culture > communist culture
I can not stand the singing in the live action. Where is the vision and soul of the work? Did they throw away all the notes from the seminal original? They copyright _everything!_ So clearly, it was a CHOICE to set aside the notes, which extend bar beyond the brief clips released to the public. It's just yet another reason why Disney is tanking. 📉 Oh well, they always can buy out the next fledgling visionary artist and apply the mouse shaped cookie cutter to remove the visionary aspects from the work _again._
Halle outsold you
How could you not stand Halle Bailey’s singing?
Howard's music is so important to me I wish I could tell him
She is my ariel
Back when disney was magical 🪄✨ or did we just grow old?
Anyone here because of MGS3 Eva voice actor theory that Jodi was the voice of Eva? Sounds so much like her when she's even just talking normally.
damn ... ... ...
Crazy that this touches me 😢
I absolutely love watching clips of Sondheim and Ashman at work directing their actors. They have a very specific vision in their mind of what they want, and they encourage the actor to help them make it happen
I'm doubly sure she was reminiscing over this experience while serving as a random shopkeeper in the marketplace scene of that particular installment of the so-called "live action remake" trend Disney has been going through for the past fourteen years as of now! Man, time's really flying!
너무좋다....😢😢😢
Why was everything better before
He directed a classic
I’ve been singing this song since before I can remember -out loud, in my head, when I’m happy, when I’m sad, when I’m excited , when I’m bored…. It’s truly one of my favorite songs of all time. I can only imagine the songs I’d be singing had Howard not been taken so young. ❤
The director doesn't know art. He interrupts lots, his intentions are broken up.
No, he doesn't
And yet they made a classic together
yeah he does actually, he had a vision and was trying fulfill his vision. look how amazing it turnt out
Creative differences are normal
She has such a melodious voice. This womans instrument is beautiful
The little Mermaid was the first movie I went to in a theater...
2024 and still speechless. I’ll keep coming back. 😍🙌🏽🎉
3:17 Feels like an angel singing to me
I just watched this today ... it looks like it is at least ten years old. I loved it and it touched me. Bless you every step of the way and continue to shine. <3
Timeless. Perfect. Never to be matched ! Howard working with Jodi on every single detail, every single breath, word, phrase, sentence - to make it perfect and translate into something meaningful and magical… Talent, perfection and execution merging into one-of-a-time recording. I’m still amazed after all those years and countless performances 😊
Where is Disney now?
ㅜ_ㅜ.. 넘좋다.. 굿!!
My wife sing/piano this song just perfectly. I’m so lucky 😊
It's so perfect you became part of that world
What a blessing that this was recorded and put on UA-cam for all to see, study and appreciate. 6/10/24
I remain obsessed with how effortlessly she emits one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard in the first few seconds of this clip. A bravura performance while they're not even taping.
I feel like this version was actually better
As much as I love Halle Bailey version of the song, you can tell it was more so about emotion for Howard not so much vocals which Halle was giving , it was a certain way he wanted the song sung and you can tell just by how many times Jodi Bendon went over it. But both versions were great.
I was in a debate with someone about how I don't think covers of part of your world shouldn't sound TOO grandiose, and I was trying to explain things in the way that I remembered this video. The way he descirbes the intensity and the breaths, the "not letting it out", it's kind of this contained excitement. She looks to go past the surface but she never reaches it. She's literally enclosed in a grotto due to how she feels enclosed. It's brilliant
This recording session made me sob uncontrollably. Her voice brings me to my knees then my tears flow like a waterfall. But why? Could it be my reaction to something so incredibly beautiful? I don't know. But I love it... I love it.
