Instead of mash maybe top with cooked cauliflower then add plenty of cheese on top, ( MAKE THAT A LOT OFF). As always an informative vid.

who has leftover chicken, ham and pastry? Why would you make a pie instead of something like rumbledethumps if you have leftovers? Who even still has a sunday roast? Show us what to do with left over pizza, kebab or chinese, oh wait I think we already know, just microwave it.

@ well for the most part yeah it’s not a thing but especially in Chicago. They really stick to the mustard and Reis and Solarie salt. It just depends on what part of the US you visit

Lambs kidneys are never strong enough for this pie in my opinion. Pigs or ideally ox kidneys are the better option., nevertheless this looks fantastic.
Without trying I wouldn't know to be honest, however, there was enough of that gamey taste for my children (both are quite sensory when it comes to food)
@@TheFacelessChefUK Taste is entirely subjective I guess and if the lightly flavoured lamb kidneys work for you and your kids then that's the way to go, ox, being beef is what I choose and seems to be the obvious choice, but that's just my own preferences. I cook my chips in the identical way to you and they are superb.👍

Isn't it a Cumberland pie if it had cheese in it?
Never knew it was a thing, apparently a Cumberland Pie uses Chunked Beef or Lamb rather than ground
You might want to leave out the cheese if you are worried about calories. Normally I say "there's no such thing as too much cheese" but mashed potatoes can stand on their own.

@@trailertrish2587 more that that was the only mince I could get hold of at the time. As said in the video, more fat brings more flavour generally, but for those of you that wish to limit, this is an easy change, particularly if you enjoy the cheese aspect ;)
Excellent dish I just wish we could do something to prevent those peas from overcooking Like adding them frozen just before shoving it into the oven. Peas are supposed to be green and not grey.
thanks I think? Although I'm not seeing gray? I see the point, little more difficult to keep the vibrancy when baking something in the oven for 30, even if using fresh or frozen (which mine were)
@TheFacelessChefUK Im actually eating green peas right now as we speak. Took them right out of the freezer and just stirred them into the boiled rice with some salt and a knob of butter. It didnt even take two minutes for them to go from frozen to eadible and they are just as green as when they were frozen
