Here at the button life we tackle small scale gardening with two kids; one income; and lots of love. Let's face it. Not everyone has acres but we can find a way to help our food supply. Plus who says just because you are not rich you can't have a rich life. We also explore what is cheap or free that is fun to do around us here in the Midwestern state of Nebraska. Plus a few snippets of everyday home life. Hope you all enjoy this journey of life with us.
Why do I homeschool?
In this video, I would like to address the topic of why I homeschool. Number one is we can not afford a good private school education. There is an awesome school near us that is just out of reach for our budget, unfortunately. Number two is to tailor the education to a boys perspective and shape it so they have the best learning environment for them. Number three is safety is a big concern for me nowadays. Unfortunately, in the world we now live in.

Huge Fail

The paint that I did 4 layers of and the drywall mud are all off of the wall. The paint peeled away like easy wallpaper, and it soaked into the seams we had mudded and pulled the mud off as well. It is close $200 just thrown down the drain. Apparently there is a special compound we have to use so I will give more details on that when I film about this next. That being said, there are some goal ...
Rule 13 changes for Nebraska and a slight rant
Переглядів 228Місяць тому
This video only lists some of the major changes to how rule 13 for homeschooling in the state of Nebraska has changed for this filing year. Please always read up on the rules, changes, and filing requirements for the state in which you homeschool. I like some of the changes but not others. It is a fence to walk on but to each there own when it comes to your kids. Best of luck and patience to al...
The walls of doom
Переглядів 11Місяць тому
The walls are killing me. The paint won't stick. Nothing sticks to the mobile home walls. I've tried sanding them, washing them, priming them. They are the walls from Mount Doom. Finally, after 3 coats of paint over $80 of paint for one room, it is done. This does not bode well for the hallway, 2 bathrooms, and 2 other rooms left to do. But we shall keep on going. On the bright side, the garden...
Did you Fare well on Prime Day

So, hopefully, you avoided the prime day deals as they weren't really deals. Remember, the key to making your money stretch farther is to buy what you need and save for your splurges, and enjoy some of your life. The problem with online shopping is that it can be way too easy to order online and spend out of budget. Good luck to everyone as the race is on for the school and Christmas shopping.

Wednesday and Thursday painting doors and cleaning some more
Переглядів 252 місяці тому
In this video, I was able to get two sets of doors painted on both sides. Also, I got one of the underneath sink cabinets painted over some stains I couldn't get out. I personally believe the most tedious and laborious part of painting anything is the preparation that goes into it. Once that is done with the actual painting itself, it doesn't take long.
Monday cooking/laundry & Tuesday cleaning
Переглядів 72 місяці тому
I meal prepped for the first half of the week so I could do some painting and cleaning for the next few days. I made walking tacos, carnitas (not filmed), tortillas, 2 loafs of bread, cooked up, divided the chicken and froze it for future meals, and made a sausage cabbage thing. Also, I did two loads of laundry and then hung them out to dry. On Tuesday, it was errands like running to the bank, ...
Finance Friday but alittle late cause of the holidays
Переглядів 92 місяці тому
So this is the budget for the week of 7/7 to 7/14, and as you will see in the video, we are tight. There's not much wiggle room, and I have to figure out how to balance it so all the bills and necessities are paid.
Day 2 of cleaning and sprucing the master bedroom
Переглядів 512 місяці тому
This video shows several days of work for organizing, storing, cleaning, and prepping to try to have the home ready to show this weekend. I don't know if we'll be able to, but we'll try. Also, Home Depot installed a new microwave above the stove and did it wrong. It's crooked by an inch and is only hanging all of its weight on the front bracket. They can't get anyone out for a whole week. I do ...
Day 1 of master bedroom cleanup, and mudding
Переглядів 152 місяці тому
We are hitting the ground running on this one. We have less than a week to mud, paint, clean, and stage a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom mobile home. All while we (a family of 4 people plus 1 cat, 1 dog, and 2 fish still live and use everything in the home) This video is day 1 on the master bedroom and what we accomplished in that little time. Stuff got put into storage as well, so we will keep on cruisi...
Deciding to try to sell a mobile home
Переглядів 52 місяці тому
We are trying to sell the mobile home we live in. It is time to move for my husbands job to the state he works in. We are going to try to keep the spruce up to under $2,000. This means remaining tight on the budget and seeing what we can do. Also, seeing how quickly we can move, it will be the trial.
Finance Friday
Переглядів 92 місяці тому
So this is just a quick check-in to update the budget to see if we have stayed on track and we have. We have made some big decisions for the direction our life will go. They are big to us, and I'll talk about that in our next video.
Day 14 & 15 Just slow days with nature
Переглядів 33 місяці тому
We spent our food budget so we have been just relaxing and staying cool in all this very hot weather. The food budget is 0, but starting on Friday, we will revisit the budget and rewrite it to fill all the gaps. Hope you enjoy the sounds of nature from the community garden. Surprise 😮 some midnight hollyhocks are blooming.

Hi, there! I'm new here. I'm a homeschool mom as well. My daughter is in the 10th grade. So, I truly understand what you are saying. We are private, which I love! Thanks for sharing your story. Stop by if you like( We don't make homeschool videos anymore)😊
Respect. 🙏
This is fantastic news!❤❤
Darn your video cut off. Definitely I am curious to more of what you’re doing.
I love homeschooling in Texas 🎉😊
I have been homeschooling in Nebraska for 12 years. The curriculum was never monitored by the Department of Education. I have changed curriculum halfway through the year many times and there was no requirement to update that information with the State. What we did have to update the State with was our address and school district if we moved and if a child was enrolling in a public or private school and no longer homeschooling. This has nothing to do with UnSchooling. It streamlined the exempt status and removed unnecessary information that the State Department doesn't oversee.

I am looking forward to your weekly check in.
They are biennial so every two years. Good luck with them. They are a rich looking color. I hope the temps cool down!
You are managing and that must make you feel good. Your gardening seems to help you keep sane. You also seem to like to clean and organize. Staying okay in the summer with living with this heat has to be hard. Are your boys in any summer programs?
Is your family okay? Will there be anymore videos?
Yes, the kids have been sick, so I took some time off to give them my full attention.
I make my own chai tea latte as well. I use a chai tea bag which I reuse at least 3 times. To this I add Splenda. My husband is diabetic and I need to watch my sugar intake so I do not get diabetes. For the latte I add almond milk. We need to be dairy feed. My husband is lactos intolerant and I have a family allergy to butter fat. Sometimes I add a small amount of cocoa.
Your harvesting radishes, most beet leaves are purple/pinkish
what's the gaming amount for? is it something youvcan cut out to use towards food budget.?
It is the only thing my husband has to keep him sane lol. Once he gets back to work he will pull over 12 hour days and sometimes 6 days a week. It is his way to let down and his hobby. We've tried to go without it but his mental health does suffer so we keep it. It always works out in the end 😊
@@thebuttonlife1360 understand...my hubby is a hunter..LOL
I'm trying to understand your budget as I'm on my own bare bones budget journey. Why do you have rent and mortgage payments? They are both big numbers. Fingers crossed that the spaying wasn't too expensive. Well done for being a responsible pet owner.
We rent the lot our mobile home sits on in our local mobile park community. The mortgage is because we are paying off the mobile home we live in. Hope that makes sense 😊
@@thebuttonlife1360 Yes, 100% understand. My brother has bought a 'Park Home' but pays ground rent for the land it sits on - within a park community. UK speak!
All that lovely home baking gets eaten too quickly!!! You were very busy! Love Rose (UK) x
What was the second curriculum you said? I couldn’t understand it.
The second curriculum is Bob Jones University. The non religious is Alpha Phonics.
This was so helpful
☀️🌼👨🌾🌻🐝🌸🦋🫑🍅🥕🥬🐝 I’m back for another update of your beautiful garden. It’s amazing to see the changes in your plants over time. I love watching my garden grow a little each day, that is my favorite part of gardening. It’s so fun to have the growth documented over the season to look back at and see progress. I love that about being a garden UA-camr. Let’s learn & grow more together!
