This song sticks in my mind always because we did Oliver 4 our school play and I was Bill sikes and obviously My name comes on after oom pah pah so this was always my reminder that I come on next. And when I waited in the wings I would just watch the band play the song and ahhhhh i miss the experience

I feel blessed to say that I saw Russ Abott's Fagin at Drury Lane. One of my best mates Steve Hartley was playing Bill Sykes. Went backstage after too. Russ was magnificent as Fagin. Steve told me that Russ improvised that whole recap bit during rehearsals and the director insisted he keep it in. Thank you for posting this video. Ok so the quality ain't HD so what? You get an idea of it at least, which is better than nothing.

I love Kerry Ellis as Nancy she did a wonderful job, But Shani Wallis is the best Nancy ever. Kerry was a lot like Shani though.

@treblecantata15 It isn't kerry's head voice, she just sings higher in her chest voice.

She stays lying on the bridge and he hits a pillow beside her - saw Oliver from the side box so had a clear view!

@amyca11aghan Nah I reckon rehearsals would be brilliant. Its always funny rehearsing something. And I dont think she says ow but she difinitely moans or something :)

I was dead excited about seeing it and I went yesterday, but she was performing at the rememberance concert so i had Jodie Prenger instead. She was great, but not as good as Kerry is!

@amyca11aghan From the top of the Balcony you can see Nancy move away from Bill and then at SD i asked. It has also been said on the Oliver! thread on the WOS forum.

@amyca11aghan When it was Burn and Jodie she moved out of the way whilst he hit a pillow. I imagine they would carry on the same.

@amyca11aghan It's because she knows what he is like when he's angry and so not to anger him she goes along with it, but then later on he smacks her one.

Thank you for posting this :) I was not happy when i didn't get to applaud her wonderful performance of this as some people on my row wanted to get out to stretch their legs just as it was ending, come on people! This is what intervals are for! ha ha ^-^

The skill in stage fighting/ being punched is not in the deliverer but the reciever. The reaction is what makes people think you've been hit, if its too little according to the "force" the puncher gives, it looks like he hasn't hurt you, if it's an over the top reaction it makes you look like a cry baby, it has to match whats given to you. So as you can tell by Kerry's perfect reaction, Bill wacked Nancy very, very hard. The bastard.

I would say that Kerry moves out of the way as you can see the red skirt quickly disappear just before he first hits her :] My drama group is doing this and I can't wait to see how the rehearsals come along especially with emotional scenes like these :] xx
