I heard this at 5:30am in the pitch black jungles in Costa Rica near La Fortuna and even though I was on the second floor of a solid hotel, it was EERY!! I googled "sounds of howler monkeys" because I never got to catch the sound on my phone. Thank you for the recording. I am confident that this is what I heard. Some far off in the distance and a closer group of monkeys that replied... started off sounding like an eery ghost, then like an elephant trumpet and then kind of barking or hooting like a monkey. Strangest experience EVER. But so cool!!!

These Howler monkeys are roaring. I received a photo of a black Howler with white bushy cheeks actually howling in a HIGH PITCH almost like a soprano. Am not able to find it. I miss listening to him. I have the photo sans the video sound. Am 76 and fear l'll never hear him/her again. Roberta Todd

This is the same sound I hear every morning when the howler monkeys wake up, thanks to the paper thin walls of my apartment. You know.....looks side-eyed..... those neighbors.
