Boca Grande, Florida - The heat and humidity has returned
SW Florida woke up to a balmy 60 degrees.
The heat and humidity has returned to SW Florida and more people are out and about enjoying the weather.
The waves, this morning are pretty calm. A number of people out looking for shells, walking their dogs, walking on the beach or just sun bathing in the sunshine. The beach parking lots on the island are now starting to get pretty filled as the day goes on. I guess shops on the island would say that is a good thing for them.
It is always a treat to come to the beach and see what it looks like from the time before. It seems to be ever changing. Also, a number of the side street beach access points are open for public parking. A few are still closed as they continue to do repairs.
The Red Tide signs are still up on the beach, but I did not smell anything or experience any symptoms. As you can see from the video there are some fish bones laying around from what the vultures ate.
I also captured a 1 minute video to just watch and enjoy its calmness.
I hope you enjoyed this video, if so, please like and comment so that more will see these videos. Also, share this channel with others. Thanks for watching.

Boca Grande, Florida - There's no place like...Florida !!!

SW Florida woke up to a chilly 37 degrees. Can you believe the weather that is occurring across the US? Even Florida is not out of the eye. Some parts received snow, can you believe that. Here in SW Florida the past two days have been cold, rain, windy and clouds. Not what you would expect, but it is what it is. The wind on the beach was very cold this morning. Glad for the gloves, hat and scar...
Gasparilla Island State Park - First visit since Hurricane Milton hit

Hurricane Milton hit this area October 9, 2024 and it has not been the same since. The island was closed for a long time and parts of it still is closed. Gasparilla Island State Park is one of the areas still closed. During my walk, I was able to find an area where I could safely get to the tip of the island. I had no idea what I would see but had heard that it was hit pretty hard. If you have ...

SW Florida woke up to a chilly 49 degrees. I waited several days before returning to the beach due to red tide. The signs are still posted but there is only smell around the remaining fish on the beach. As you can see from the video the vultures have come to the beach and are having a feast on the fish. I can only assume that all of the dead fish from my red tide video went out with the tide as...
Boca Grande, Florida - What is that Smell ??

SW Florida woke up to 48 degrees. A bit chilly but it is winter in Florida. As you can see from the video the beach has red tide and there are a lot of dead fish up and down the beach. A sign was posted at the entrance of the beach. The smell is something that you really don't want to encounter and the number of fish was unbelievable. I was only able to spend a short amount of time as the smell...

Boca Grande, Florida - Merry Christmas !!

SW Florida woke up to 54 degrees. A bit chilly but better than other parts of the US this Christmas morning. The beach was pretty cloudy and had a nice cool breeze this morning. Several people were fishing, looking for shells and walking their dogs. The dogs had a blast running into the ocean water. I don't think any people were even brave enough to try that. Suggestion: kindly note the time of day too with the date. I ask bc "We' spent most of our time frolicking to the left of those pillars off Belcher. With every storm one of two seem to disappear. What's the status on the state park?

Thank you for that suggestion. I do provide the date at the start of each video. I will also start including the time of day. The state park is still closed at this time. People can still venture on foot to that part of the island as seen in my video a few weeks back where I was able to walk to the tip and video tape. Lots of changes for sure after the 2024 hurricanes went through. I will try to get down to the end of the island soon to get an updated video.

Yes, this place is very very beautiful. I occasionally talk to people I see walking on the beach and some still go to work, some are on vacation but most people I talk to do not even live on the island. I also, think that later in the day, people arrive at the beach to get the bright sunshine and lay out. Also, the ocean water is pretty chilly this time of year.

I've watched many of your Boca runs. The pillared columns at the end of Belcher Rd were where my late wife and I swam for decades. Saw sand come n go. What's the condition of Gasparilla State Park now? I saw where the church had 5' feet of sand oin it after Hurracaine Milton.

    • @SWFlorida-Gal
      @SWFlorida-Gal 28 днів тому

Unfortunately, the State Park is still closed with no word on when it will be opened. So I cannot venture past the South Beach Restaurant. I had heard that the parking lot to the State Park was covered with feet of sand and the ramp where the light house is was badly damaged. I can see from South Beach that the Boca Bay Pass Club outside sea wall was really damaged. I cannot even jump up to the top of that to walk around and see the tip of the island. As soon as I can safely do that, I will definitely video that. I always loved going to the tip to see the boats, dolphins etc. Thanks for watching and I hope that I am bringing you positive memories.

I think a lot of the residents houses are still being fixed due to the Hurricanes that have hit the area. I see many workers on the island and few people on the beach or on the streets. I know a lot of the restaurants and offices have been slowly opening back up. Will have to see if after the first of the year if more are around. A number of local beaches are still closed due to the storms.

But my family is safe and property did not suffer any damage. We did not receive any water surge. Boca Grande on the other hand is in really bad shape. In face, they have the causeway closed and no one is allowed on the island with the exception of emergency search and rescue. I have seen some pictures and videos and it is truly sad. We went to the Seawall Beach just to check it out yesterday afternoon (Sunday). The erosion was so much worse than it’s ever been!! The drop off was very steep!! I looked myself, and there were some shells, but mostly broken and black and white arc shells! I shell for my business. I can usually fill a painter’s bucket in just about 3 hours!! I’m going to call the Chamber of Commerce on Boca to see if they are going to repair that section of the beach! We also checked out the 17th Street beach. It had quite a few shells along the rack line! There was also a tide pool, but I didn’t check it for shells.

Looking for shells always seems, I guess, to be hit and miss. One day a lot, the next day none. Thanks for the information on the shells you spotted. Hopefully you get some information when you make that call. Boca has such a beautiful beach, just like a piece of paradise.

Thanks for sharing this video! We always go to the Seawall Beach, which is right in front of the South Beach restaurant that has been rebuilt! I’m a big sheller! The last time we were at the beach, the erosion was horrible, and there were virtually no shells!! If you went that far down, can you tell me if there were many shells? I would usually bring home a painter’s bucket full of shells, but lately, I’ve only been able to find about a quarter of a bucket. It’s so sad how much erosion has happened!! From what one of the Park rangers told me, Boca doesn’t replace the sand! I can’t imagine how the beach will recover unless they bring in more sand! Thanks again!! Diana Kirchhoff

Yes, there were shells at the end of the island. If you watch the sunset video I recently posted that was taken at the end of the island you will get an idea of the amount. Thank you for watching.
