MS is Chronic Introduction
Переглядів 7Місяць тому
Hi there, I'm Barney Black and I was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in 2017. Since then I have shared some of my story on UA-cam UC-3c5PTy1a5QYwiLEBvNdhQ Now it's time for other voices to be heard which is the motivation behind this podcast. A little bit of science: The estimates suggest that over 130,000 people in the UK live with MS and that number is rising. There is n...
Season 1 - Episode 6: Kris Mackie

This seems like a fortuitous and appropriate way to end Season 1. I met Kris Mackie a couple of months ago at the Perth and Kinross Coffee evening profile.php?id=100076069987270 We got chatting and he kindly agreed to be a guest on the podcast. Kris has only been on his own MS journey since last year. Meaning everything he is going through is very current. From the symptoms he bega...

I was lucky to have a cup of tea with Mavis while I was holidaying on the Isle of Islay, off the West Coast of Scotland. Mavis shares what it is like to be in a lovely but remote part of the world when it comes to needing specialist support like a neurologist or MS Nurse. Also a shout out to the The Snowdrop / Multiple Sclerosis Centre, in Lochgilphead on the West Coast of Scotland, with outrea...

With his humour and ability to try something new and always wanting to stretch himself. Refusing to have limits put upon him because he has Multiple Sclerosis. We laugh and we even shed a tear in this episode. Follow the the link in these notes to Dean'...

I first 'met' Damian through his UA-cam channel as he shared his own MS journey. He's engaging, funny and perhaps most importantly he is authentic His UA-cam channel www.youtube.com/@NoStressMS His website: www.damianwashington.com/ His bio says he's an 'Actor, Rapper and a Nerd' To me though, he is a rich gift in this sh!tty world of Multiple Sclerosis
Season 1 - Episode 1: Heather Mcqueen

I first met Heather last year. At least that's the first I remember. My sister Mona and Heather are old school friends. Heather very kindly agreed to support me in getting this series of podcasts started and she is a brilliant first guest. The language is a little fruity at times, so if you are of a sensitive nature, you might want to skip this episode. But you'd be missing out on a brilliantly...

June 25th - how I start the day - Monday to Friday I'm up at 5 to take my stepson to his work pick-up for 6. I then head to Edinburgh or have time for a run and/or walk the dog. This morning I had time for a wee run and to ask you a question. Later in the day I also spent time with Dean Riley who has his own UA-cam Dean vs MS - what an amazing person he is. The time we spent is part of a podcas...

Jedburgh Three Peak Ultra 2023

Saturday 28th of October I took part and completed the Jedburgh Three Peak Ultra - It was challenging (understatement) A couple of times I wasn't sure if I would finish. But I had plenty of people to think about to keep me going. The event itself was fabulously organised. The pre race info and the day itself was brilliant. At each checkpoint my spirits were lifted by unicorns, pterodactyls, t-r...

Talking with Ian Young after his 30 days of consecutive running
Thanks for taking us along. I chose Copaxone back in 2017 due to its long history, safety profile, and low side effects. I knew I would be adding diet and lifestyle changes too, so I was comfortable with the lower efficacy. I am still doing well on it (on the generic now), but would consider changing if needed.
Thankyou for watching. 🙏
I am tired just watching this marathon walk!
Thankyou for watching - it’s a big ole hospital….😀
Well done Barney. 👋 Just found ye oan twitter and subbed. Guid tae see a fellow Mser keeping active and booting it's erse. 💪😉
Long and hard runnin! Good stuff mate. Back when I was a spry youngin I did a 35 miler ... it's cool to see ya keeping on!
Cheers Spencer - You look like you're doing well with your tree acrobatics 🙂Got my latest MRI and no change in 5 years.... So i reckon running is playing some sort of part in keeping things stable.... 🤔 take care on those trees
Nice
Good to see ya out doing it!!
Cheers Spencer 👍 gotta keep moving
Well done Barney on completing the Ultra. Amazing achievement to run 55 miles. A double marathon plus a 5k, seems hard to imagine the pain you had to endure to get the job done. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to do a run together sometime soon.
definitley Gary - would you believe I've buggered my back washing Karen's car on Wednesday - so that has laid me up for a few days 🙂
Lookin' healthy and cheery! Hang in and stay strong buddy
“The MS crush” apt renaming!
Take care Barney...
Cheers Steve 👍
Love ya BB!!
Did you have any symptoms with your running gait in the beginning??
Hi LIsa, not that I was aware of but when I was walking I drifted to the right side - it was very subtle but for a bout a month my balance was off. I have had 3 falls in the last 5 years - all indoors - so no harm done - my leg just gave way. And i have had a kind of leg drop experience when my right leg didn't lift fully which meant I dragged my foot a little. This was very intermittent and was occasional not every step. Those symptoms were all very subtle and not long lasting (thankfully) All the best. ps my running gait probably needs work as i find i lean dforward far too much 🙂
I have a question with your experience with Lhermitte’s. Does it always start in the neck or can the buzzing start midway down your back when you bend your neck forward. My neurologist said that Lhermitte’s starts at your neck and travels down and that I PROBABLY have spinal stenosis but there’s no point in an mri because they wouldn’t treat it unless I develop weakness in my arm. Most of the time it doesn’t even bother my arms. I can only feel buzzing in my hands if I don’t rest when it starts and it gets much worse. Always starts when I bend my neck forward and I usually feel it in my legs and lower back first and know I need to go sit down. I feel like I was blown off with him leaving it on a “probably” but I’m also not an expert. Does this sound like it may be Lhermitte’s from your personal experience.
I love your positive attitude 👍
UR LUCKY U STILL WALKING
Inspiring mate.
Hey David hows life?
Great update, good to see you are still active
Great vid Barney. Truly jealous of this. I would love to do more events like these. Not with you, no offence but I was a solitary plodder. Well done. Hope the knee's on the mend...
Cheers Steve. Haha I know what you mean. All the best
Well done Barney, I wondered what the hell you were doing when I looked at my Strava feed this morning but this explains it. Your a legend.
Haha yeah it must have looked odd. You’ve been doing some serious running too 👍
In reference to Ian's plans to run the London marathon - at the time of publishing the video (11th July) the London Marathon is rescheduled to Sunday 4 October.
Thankyou for the doing this video Barnaby, much appreciated.
Great picture Barnaby,God bless you my friend. You just brightened my day. Maybe one day we'll get back to somewhat normal.
looks like good stuff, mate!
Keep it up, you're doing great Barney. Cheers for the music 👍
Bloody amazing, Barney 💜
@@MSisChronic still bloody impressive tho! Well done!
Barney Black.. you are an inspiration my friend xx
Barnaby Black too true brother... roll on August 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Proud of you mate, keep up the good fight. Google Thomas Keller and take that cooking to a new level....
FANTASTICO! Putting the rest of us to shame! G'an yirsel!
Barney great video and a very postive one. Losing your train of thought and putting things in the wrong place and going blank i can fully understand. I've epilepsy and get those symptoms and forgetfullness for me it's really frustrating. Your positive attitude is an inspiration and something to take on board. Will share this video with a friend of mine who has MS. Take care of yourself. Neil
Good to see ya talking about the disease! Edible cooking is always good stuff :)
Legend
Class mr Black.... ha ha..
God bless you Barnaby, with everything going. I'm glad you're still training.
@@MSisChronic I've been better but I'm hanging tough. Running for me ceased 5 years ago and had to retire from my job on disability last year. I was only diagnosed 3 years ago but I figure I've had it at least 10 years. On the upside the fact that I ran for. 20 plus years and my job was a physical.one is the reason I'm still on my feet. If I'm ever able to run again I'll have to try to get you here to run the mountain goat. That's a fun and hilly 10 mile race. Thankyou for responding and always great to hear from you.
Great to see the country out there and to know that you're still doing it! Warmer running weather is on the way :)
Awesome. It's gonna be a great one!
@@MSisChronic way to go, man. Many years ago I did a 35 miler and really enjoyed the process ...
Barnaby, you rock brother. I know you'll do well.
Brilliant video mate, Dad jokes mixed with a brilliant description of your condition has really explained what you have been through. Well done mate.
Mate these videos are amazing. So well explained mate. Love it. Well done mate.
Great video Mr Black!!! Can’t wait to hear more. Very honest and informative. Eye opening week I feel.
Great to see ya out there doing it! That country reminds me of some long hikes I took in England and Scotland over the years
Great video mate. Love the honesty. Really eye opening bro... congrats on the house bro
Big love BB!!!
Sorry to hear mate. Incredible you still managed to get a game of footy in. Amazing mate. I would have been in a sulk all weekend. Well done mate. Hope you get well soon bro. Btw thanks for the plug bro.
Barnaby Black great news bro
Keep going. Barnaby, wish I could be training with you. Best to you.
@@MSisChronic Thankyou Barnaby, I'm 5 weeks into physical therapy and I start on Tysabri tomorrow. Hoping to make improvements and one of my goals is to run again one day.
Looked like a long day bro. Well done.
Legend!!! Big love BB
Great video Barney. Really inspirational bro. Keep it up!!!!!!
If by the grace of God my new medication and physical therapy help I will be lacing up the running shoes again Barnaby. God bless you brother.
Good for you Barnaby, I'm glad do you can still run. You give those of us would that MS inspiration to keep going. I myself was diagnosed a little over two years ago although my running days ceased about 5 years ago. I had to retire from my job of over 30 years last year on disability. I'm being well compensated but I miss working and running everyday of my life. I met with my new physical therapist yesterday and I'll be starting on a new DMT this coming month. I'm still on my feet although not too great but I'm not giving up hope that one day I will run and work again. I hope you have plenty of good running days ahead of you.
Tay bridge. That's near St. Andrews isn't it? Golf and running... can't be beat. Cheers!
