These videos are about canoeing, kayaking, salmon fishing and skiing in wild areas with close friends. For more than two decades myself and my group of friends, know as "the Level 5 Crew", have been creating videos of our adventures. Originally designed to help us reminisce about our shared adventures, our recent films are intended for a wider audience. We hope they inspire you to get out and have your own adventures.
Rising Waters Long Version
Rising Waters documents an attempt to be the first group to run all the rapids of the lower Terra Nova River in Tandem Canoe. At the start of the decent, water levels were 50% higher than the group had hoped and heavy rain during the trip pushed the levels higher, increasing group’s anxiety. The story connects two generations of paddlers, all of whom love the river.

Paddling with the Past - A Greenland Kayak Trip
This video is so good. Looks like a great crew!
great video! shows the skill, the humanity, the mess-ups.
This is by far one of the best canoe vids I have watched yet. Wow looks like an awesome trip.
We entered the tunnel from the other end on a calmer day, i think the way you went would definitely be the safer way when rough.
Thanks for posting this video, you captured what salmon fishing is all about !!
Just discovered this series and it is super inspiring. Thanks! As a mainlander paddler who's been coming to the west coast of the island with his wife for 18 years I've always wondered about which rivers were a good ride and when. If you or any of your crew ever have time for a quick conversation I'd love to pick your brain a bit:)
Just wondering, did you consult any locals if these spots you are naming already had names? Some likely of historical significance.
……..I mean damn, I’m 52 now and this is the first time in HISTORY that your bills were possibly on hold, the kids and wife were home……….go on a 3-4 month wilderness trip!! Lol nobody cares that you’re gone!!!
I live in Arkansas where we ignored COVID and lost very few…….not to mention that the # of folks who sadly died was from not being treated right medically. I hope and pray that this was a lesson to be CIVIL DISOBEDIENT if the evil authoritarians try this shit again and use common sense and reality! For example; telling people they couldn’t go to a park or a trip in the far off places……………..IN THE FRESHEST AIR ON THE PLANET WHERE ARE ALMOST NO OTHER HUMANS AROUND????!!
❤
Thx so much for sharing this! the Terra Nova was my last whitewater run. It was a spontaneous day trip with Mark Dykeman, Mike Noftall, Mark (?) and me ...The water levels were super high and I still have a lumpy scar on my right ring finger where I bashed my hand when stuggling to adjust to the sheer strength of the river - I patched it up with duct-tape and went on. The highlight of the trip was Stuart's Staircase. The rooster tail pushed me river left, but I still made it down the backdoor upright! I was never so tired and exhilarated when we pulled out at Spencer's Bridge and Mike had the beer chilled. Appreciate the shout outs to the founders of the sport in NL - I had the privilege of working with Jim for 5 years and we always took our boats with us on work road trips (you wouldn't be allowed to do what we did these days...lol); he had infinite patience with a late-beginner - but he'd tell you straight! Also, how may times would Mark flash by and say something like 'never thought you'd be doing this, eh?' as we surfed waves off the southern shore. good memories brought back by a great video. thx! Anna Myers (better remembered as Anna Buffinga)
So happy he hooked into one. Great job
Thanks Mike
Moving to the mouth of the Terra Nova from Ontario and I found this video as my introduction to the river! Absolutely love this film!
Awesome
What a trip! Loved watching it and hope to see more from you guys soon. Thanks for posting!
Loved every minute.
Thanks so much. Many years ago. 😁
Thoroughly enjoyed the story. What a great river that Flat Bay is, one hat has offered many of us marvelous days and friendships I will never forget. The first time I fished it was in just over 50 years ago. Here's hoping to be back there this summer at Tiger's Run, Strawberry Pool, and Walkers' Pool. Hope I make it to Reg's age for a few more flicks.
An amazing video!!! Very heartfelt!!! I would love to have a closer pic and a recipe for that fly!!!
One word ! “Beautiful “
Hi guys, great video. I live on George's Lake and I just ran Harry's in canoe a couple days ago. Water is decently high and it's a great run. I saw about 20 caribou and a moose swam across the river right in front of me. Take care.
Awesome Josh. Thanks for posting a comment. Great river. Lots of memories. I can't wait to get back on it.
Nice watching guys my age doing what I love doing. I think I could have done that trip in my stratos.
Kk
Just found this channel and watched a few videos. Really great videos.. thoroughly enjoyed each one.
Nice caught buddy 👍watching from Greenland 🇬🇱
Lovely series watched them all THANX
Thank you! We enjoyed making it. Big plans for our next series. Thanks for watching. 😁
Great video thanks for sharing, I think we all need to get out paddling a little more each year.
Agreed. thanks for watching.
Sick!!!!
When are we going back !!? ;P
Nice!!! I just moved to Newfoundland (central) and I would love to connect with other whitewater canoers!!!
Don't forget to watch the other episodes. : )
Great to see my childhood home still standing. Thanks for this video.
Thank you for watching. 😁
Great to see four friends paddling whitewater! Nice video work too.
Thanks Michael. Much appreciated. Don't forget to check out the other films in the series. We need the views. hahahahah
Thank you for this episode. I live for SLOOOWWWW! Of course, I am near Keith's vintage... studying the Path of the Paddle series in the late 70's and early '80's. Keep them coming!
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it.
Wendy's tea biscuits at 48 seconds. more important to the story than many might appreciate!!!!!
Thank you for the story
These Paddle East episodes that you are producing are the most enjoyable things I have watched in a very long time. The fact that you are P.C. instructors and add a skills focus at times is great for me as that is also my background. I hope that you understand that I hate you all, because I don't get to live there (Upper Canadian). So now time to add some poling! ;) Thanks for these!
Thanks for the kind words. Poling episode! I like the sound of that 😁
@@NewfoundlandKayakCompany :)
Thanks for a great story.
A very old trip. Just a couple of buddies going for a paddle in Greenland. 😁 I am surprised how may views it gets given the poor quality. Might be the word Greenland that is driving it.
Can’t fault the training location!
Beautiful! Well done, lads!
Really enjoy these films. Thanks for keeping them coming. My wife (who is from Chance Cove) and I did Level 1 with NKC back in 2008. Highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting on the water in our wonderful province. Chance Cove is my fave spot to paddle on the island. So much in to see in a small area. The trail nearby is amazing too.
Great video. Congratulations Shane. Very knowledgeable and a great guy!
My sobriety is questionable ... still blaming your Sat night video releases. Bring your frikken canoe at the end of the month. You still owe me a paddle down Harry's with our fly rods :) And water levels are low, so our window is closing :( Oh, nice vid btw :)
True. All true 😁
I want to have a Nordkapp!
Great to see Perry’s cabin! I think that’s what it was called anyways back when I took adventure tourism
Thanks for posting this, it brought back memories of running those with Jim Price and Mark Dykeman. It was good to have a white water video that had something other than helmet camera shots.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ I'm an old student of his. I'll never forget my college family and I still tell stories of it, as skittish as I am, I wouldn't change it for the world.
That's me in the silver Mazda 🤪
Hahahahah 🤣
Haha, fun times and what a spot to live!
Ha ha, you guys are a hoot. Running that river gave me some flashbacks to my youth canoeing with my Dad.
Awesome Phil. 👍
Awesome coastline, just expanded my horizons! My dad was like yours, instilled a love for the outdoors. Thanks Dad!
Awesome! you guys are truly good friends to one another. Thank you for sharing that.
Thanks David. The lockdown had an impact on everyone. Glad you enjoyed the story.
