Some old and new friends got together and rehearsed songs from the King Crimson Red album (and a few others). We played at Pino's in Highland Park May 24 2019. Happy Birthday Chris - I know you enjoyed it as much as I did
Two Brand New Lee Lines SP Daylight sets - April 2017
Переглядів 6777 років тому
Lee Lines made standard gauge SP Daylight 4-8-4 engines in the late 1970's into the mid 1980's. Only 50 were made. The two sets in this video were built from parts left over from Lee Lines original production - in 2017 - 40 years later. Proudly built by Jim Waterman for a few lucky customers - there will only be 10 more engines. These are numbers 6 and 7..
Love those big standard gauge trains on a large layout where they can stretch out and run.
Beautiful Lionel trains
Are these off the shelf locos I'm seeing, or were they custom built? Did not know standard guage trains were still being sold.
Yes, a few of us still building brand new trains, myself, David Carse of Classic Model Trains and Train makers, a new father and son outfit, a few others making parts and accessories
Some of these locomotives have to go for close to two grand.
Many are one of a kind hand built and not available for sale, and some go for more than 2 grand, but not all.
Hi Jim, the EF1 has a brush assembly/commutator failure in one of it's motors and can't run right now. I am in the process of narrowing down what the actual problem is. Otherwise she is doing fine and being well cared for. It's fun to see her in action.
Other than at huge auditoriums, how do people run this "scale" at home?
My home layout is a modest 8 by 16 feet, made up of 8 modules, 3 tracks, I have a bunch of tinplate scenic accessories scattered around it. Not huge, but with 87" curves on the outside, I can run large locos and pretty good size consists.
Only got glimpses of it, but holy cow that T1 Duplex is beautiful. I didn’t know I needed a tinplate T1 in my life but… wow. Stunning piece, and some other great stuff too!
This recorded fairly well - I was at the show and the live sound I heard was "off" - there's something funny with the room at Pino's - but the overall sound and especially James's vocal come across well here.
My all time favorite gauge...I call them cartoon trains, especially the prewar and 40's...I like my track clean but all of my standard gauge stuff is old and sweaty.....mechanically excellent but used and loved...I'm 73 years old and the first set that was given to me Christmas of 1955 I still own to this day ....
I wish you guys were closer Such is life.
Looks like you guys had a busy show Great engines !!
Oh man, we had a blast. Lots of great trains, lots of good friends. We will be setting up at Spring York 2023, unfortunately in the Purple Hall and not Orange.
Standard gauge is just fantastic, toy trains at their finest
Very cool. Didn’t realize how diverse and modern Standard Gauge has gotten.
I know The video is a few years old but The trains look awesome !!
That tinplate gg1 is beautiful
Thanks - my prototype. Was it's first showing. The 16 year old who did the CAD design showed up at the meet, didn't realize at first that it was his design. His mom was absolutely beaming.
@@watermaj is there a good beginners guide to tinplate train building
Great trains and video. Thanks for sharing.
Very good video. 👍 🤝
I had no idea…..
Wow
Your work is exceptional. Do you have a website where I can view the trains you have available to purchase?
I do not Dave, you can see a few more of my things running on the SGMA videos.
Awesome!
Standard layouts are boring but wow nice trains though
That GG1 looks like a John Daniels Line production from the late 1970's. Hard to tell since it goes by so fast and the lighting is a bit dark. The GG1 we had did not run well as it had rubber band belts so you can imagine how poorly they pulled. The coaches were heavy too, made of the same material as the locomotive, heavy plastic.
Thanks for the comment. A couple of us have Daniels GG1,s. This one has a cast aluminum shell, more closely resembles the Lionel GG1 in O, and uses 2 widened Lionel F3 drives.
@@watermaj oh wow. Not a Daniel's then. I'd like to see a scale GG1 in standard gauge, that would be something.
@@ralphmiller2265 I build scale length GG1's in standard gauge - if you go to 13:48, you'll see one sitting on the layout, not a great shot, but mine are all metal and 30" long. 12 wheel dual motor drives.
@@ralphmiller2265 I build scale sized standard gauge GG1s - you can see it running at 7:15
that Bi polar is perfection
Thanks for posting and I assume video recording as well. As a teen in the late 70's and 80's I learned about the standard gauge more directly but it was old and tin plate type things. Seeing this I see an opportunity for big train runners and more modern collectors to have other then tin plate. Also the hobby consist of tin plate that can be just highly polished or old and chipped to modern and in some way kind of kooky. The Union Pacific BigBoy looks good until you see it make the turns. The GG-1's look nice but the end wheel sets look wrong. The addition of electronic sounds and smoke is a nice feature to and some years back thought of a wrong thing to do in tin plate trains...
Thanks for the post. I actually build both of those locos, and because standard gauge is in the 'toy train' world, I try to keep realism and tinplate factors in balance. The Challenger was designed by John Harmon in the late 1970's and had to run on 42" diameter curves, on this layout it is only 87" diameter, very tight for so long of a loco, so those compromises have to be made. Tinplate flanges are much bigger than scale as well, if they are scale, the trains don't stay on the rounded rails, so we do what we can, but mostly it's about having fun
@@watermaj amazing
that 2-4-4-4 looks gourgeous!
Thanks so much. The craftsmanship of Norm Beaver. He made several of the unique trains shown running
You folks had a great layout at York! Everything about it was fantastic. My wife love all of the colors from the pre-war era. Thanks for being there!
We all had more fun that grown adults should be able to have - especially me - thanks for stopping by - we will be back! Jim
I want a tinplate big boy now. With two extra tenders.
I must be dreaming this video. There is no way that is a GG1 and up challenger in tinplate.
i think they might be custom made, but i’m not positive
@@harrison444 they look like custom models. And if they are, someone has talent!
@@northpennvalleysteamrailroad that’s for sure
Yup - I built them both and continue to build them new.
@@watermaj will you ever make videos on them?
Pretty Impressive Jim. Thats a nice clean display. I see your Custom Locos Nice !!
Thanks Serg - will be bringing some to the Oaks, PA show in late August and in Orange Hall at the Fall York meet in October. And probably a couple of new items.
Does this club exhibit in Chicago or northeast Illinois?
Fantastic display layout representing alot of great SG !!
Very Nice!!! Welcome to making music videos!!! Love it!!!
