    Not sure why you would go to so much effort and expense to work 2.5 watts VHF/UHF. You might as well use a 5-watt Baofeng UV-5R handheld with a reasonable antenna.

    Have to say you have some ace kit. Have a Bushcomm antenna system myself so know how bullit prove they are. A bit above what most radio amateurs would pay I guess. Did wonder if you were ex signals. Anyway thanks for all the vidieos I do enjoy them.

    • @moorlandmule9327
      @moorlandmule9327 3 роки тому

      Thanks for your comments and I am happy to learn that you like the videos. As for ex signals, unfortunately not. I became extremly frustrated with our amateur radio procurement route for not providing us with a true robust portbable radio, therefore I took the decision to go down the professional user route and this is where I found the CODAN which costs more than that of a mid range base station and less than that of a high end base station radio. As I live in a urban area I do suffer from poor performance at the QTH so the CODAN allows me to go out and about on the Pennnines and keep fit and make some fantastic contacts . If my QTH circumstances were different I suspect that I would have spent my money on a tower and beam, which I suspect would cost considerably more than that CODAN. I would strongly recommend any one who is in a similar position as my self to go and buy a CODAN it is truely awsome. Thanks again 73

    • @larrybushman1
      @larrybushman1 3 роки тому

      @@moorlandmule9327 Guess I am lucky to live out in the sticks and have a very low noise level at my QTH. That said I prefer to operate out of a caravan or tent as i find it much more fun. The FT 818s, KX3s are more than capable for this task, not hurt one yet. That said if I was operating man portable in all weathers I am sure I would follow you down the exact same road. Much food for thought. Many thanks Larry

    • @moorlandmule9327
      @moorlandmule9327 3 роки тому

      Yes you are very luck indeed to live in a quiet area. One of the main reasons why I opted for the CODAN is due to having 3 horses, I can now spend more time with my beloved at the farm and i can have my station set up 30 seconds ( time required for the radio to initialise) or 15-20 mins with mast and di-pole or a few mins with the emergency long wire. Additionally we will take the horses from Oldham to Southport beach from time to time where i can set my station, so the CODAN provides me with a huge opportunity to enjoy many aspects of life and to me it is worth all of the many ££££. You also enjoy many aspects of life when camping and using your FT818, all of this demonstrates just how versitle our interst in radio can be. What other hobby can you think of which provides so much flexibility? Thanks again for your comments and please keep in touch with your latest adventures and ideas. Cheers

    It has an ability to be easily layed down via spring etc. however my vehicular mounting location (on rough roads) causes it to dislodge and fall onto the vehicle. I'm using a piece of 13mm irigation hose cut at 50mm long to solve the issue..

      Aren't these just SLIGHTLY more in output power than a Yaesu-VX 6R HT? - Basically not even close to 100W like the 857D? If so, what's the point of this over a simpler HT like a Yaesu VX 6R? Just that it's all band? - why not just get a modern 100w radio like the 857D?

    • @philkennedy342

      Yes the 818 is very slightly more powerful but not by much.. And yes you could use a handheld and qrp operating is low power normally less than 10 watts that’s the fascination of operating qrp portable….

      @moorlandmule9327 3 роки тому

      Hello Fran, I have just looked at your QRZ page profile photo, is that what you would call cat control? As for the manpack kit I do have to admit that I have my Bergen fully loaded with apparatus to suit all on site difficulties and as such I do carry more than I strictly need, this is due to the fact that I go to so many different places that I am unfamiliar with. The CODAN radio c/w battery weighs in at 5.5 Kilo, I then have 2 small radio mounted vertical antennas, an emergency long-wire, two counterpoise and my multi band di-pole and the 5 metre mast c/w ground anchors and mallet. The grand total is 18 Kilo which sounds horrific however as the Bergen is a genuine military radio Bergen this weight is distributed extremely well with no nasty pressure points to bare on your torso. The weight helps me with keeping fit and I must admit that when I go walking without it I feel naked. I built up the weight and my fitness gradually over a period of time. It is critical that you have an extremely well fitting Bergen with the weight evenly distributed. A poor fitting Bergen or any ruck sack which is poorly packed will cause discomfort and fatigue. Finally Weigh everything that you think you need and see if lighter items are available, such as ground anchors for you mast and the mallet to drive home the ground anchors. Don't be afraid to experiment and don't be afraid to build up your fitness. Above all enjoy what you do and do not allow your kit to be a burden. Good luck
