STAR WARS Martial Arts: Teras Kasi
Переглядів 10 тис.7 років тому
Author Steve Perry, author of "Shadows of the Empire," invented the martial art of Teras Kasi, based off of Silat, with a mix of Jeet Kune Do and Kali, and wrote about it in the STAR WARS novels. David and I demonstrate what Teras Kasi looks like!
Great video, hilarious captions; informative in both martial arts aspects and star wars lore. I'm currently playing a Teras Kasi practitioner in an rpg and was looking for some inspiration for their techniques. Didn't even think about the robe thing, that's a great touch of lore building. Your insight on center line control also very cool- I love that you acknowledge the fight from the OG star wars as being the most realistic and build from there. There are a ton of martial arts in Star Wars all based on real world martial arts, would be lit to see you do this kind of video for those other styles
Jedi Master Sol also.
Thanks dude, great video!
I’m doing Tera Kari in SWG Restoration, the only original code SWG server… come play
Also Phrik is lightsaber resistant it's nigh indestructible in legends continuity
i wish someone would make up a Mok'bara 'form' to learn.. i love tai chi but nowhere to learn it and I would be more inspired to learn Mok'bara.. i know it's not real but it could be 😄
Fun to think about, interesting to see you extrapolate techniques from it :)
This is awesome
Yours has been the best by far explanation of the hand to hand style used by Darth Maul. I am big fan boy of your channel! Please continue to do great things!
Cortosis is rather brittle it can cause them to short out, but a few extra hits from Saber will cut through. Beskar Iron is MUCH more durable when dealing with Lightsabers than Cortosis. It can take significantly more hits before finally being breached. But great Video! Teras Kasi is one of if not my favorite Star Wars martial art. Master practitioners can throw blows that rival slugthrowers and blaster pistols, punching through body armor. And they can develop a blinding speed and senses that are ridiculously accurate they can basically sense when you're going to attack then evade so quick they appear to move faster than the eye can track. Plus mental mastery even basically closing their mind to mental attacks, and even heal their wounds! Very badass not to mention they're very acrobatic almost Jedi like in movement.
Probably shouldn’t read to much into anything William Shatner did on screen
Is it okay if I sample this? I am making a Klingon Mok'Bara meditation video. I'm working a few other artists, one a martial artist for a compilation.
Teräs Käsi being finnish for Steel Hand works really well as a name for a combat style!
What defense would a Teras Kasi practitioner have a against a lightsaber? The only defense against a lightsaber is another lightsaber.
A mixture of avoiding the lightsaber's blade via evasion, rapid and ruthless counter grappling combined with debilitating strikes to get control of the weapon arm to disarm the opponent, and both armor and weapons that have cortosis or similar lightsaber resistant materials as part of their structure.
@@RaderizDorret Alright well with the Force a Jedi could just force choke a Teras Kasi practitioner.
@@YouthFreedomFighters Easier said than done and you're assuming a Teräs Käsi practitioner would offer a fair fight. Then there's the fact that it's very difficult to wield the force mid-battle as the Jedi has to split their attention from their blade work to perform a physical attack through the force. Also consider the Battle of Geonosis: a typical Jedi isn't going to be on par with the likes of Kenobi, Windu, or any Skywalker and a LOT of Jedi wound up dying to battle droids. A Master Jedi who specializes in combat indeed wouldn't have much trouble against a Teräs Käsi practitioner one on one, but Padawans, average Knights, and Master Jedi who focus more on diplomacy rather than combat. You also have to consider that the Jedi Order at their peak only had 10,000 members in total. Overwhelming firepower with Teräs Käsi users getting in close while the Jedi are distracted would be effective. Palpatine proved that with Order 66 and all he had were clone troopers. In Legends content, Sith Assassins who weren't Force-Sensitives were very effective with Teräs Käsi and considered to be threats just shy of an actual Sith by comparison. Now Teräs Käsi practitioners who can't use the Force are not peer threats to Jedi who have kept up with their combat training, but they are a significant threat and are not to be underestimated.
@@RaderizDorret When Jedi fight with lightsabers they use the Force to guide their hands so switching to a force choke or force push attack wouldn't be too difficult as it's just another version of using the Force. Darth Vader had no problem doing that on Cloud City when he caused all the stuff to fly around. There is even a scene in ROTJ when Luke Skywalker force kicks one of Jabba's thugs and causes him to fall off the barge even though his foot doesn't make contact. If you've played through the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Darth Vader is able to use the Force to hold Trilla still and keep her from moving when he cuts her down with the lightsaber. Cal Kestis is able to use the Force while Vader is choking him so Cal Kestis would probably hold his own against a Teras Kasi practitioner.
@@YouthFreedomFighters Watch again. Every single time a Sith or Jedi uses a Force power for a direct attack, whether it's a push, lightning, choke, etc, they are not engaged in active blade work. They're either in a bind (aka blade lock) or they do the force attack first (Vader did it against Luke on Bespin, using the Force to throw shit in between strikes). Trying to use the Force for direct attacks while doing active blade work splits their focus which will result in a weakened Force attack and sloppy blade work that will either make their defense falter or run the risk of them lopping off one of their own limbs. This has been consistently demonstrated time and time again in the original six movies and pretty much every game that I'm familiar with. It's even consistent in every Legends novel that I'm familiar with. Communing with the Force for any extended duration beyond a random burst of chaotic effects requires intense concentration which is why Jedi and Sith training is so rigorous.
“Keysi fighting method” everyone: “awww he’s special”
That would be a 50 to one shot that that creature that could nullify the force would be near by and most likely if it was near by it wouldn't stay
Also it's a misconception to think that lightsabers are light in weight as a matter of fact if the wielder of the saber lacks in connection to the lightsaber it wouldn't feel really heavy to them
Yea I'm sorry you made a few mistakes and one of them I definitely noticed was during the lightsaber vs lightsaber resistant weapons and are u guys at all familiar with form5 djem so of lightsaber combat
Because form 5 specifically is designed to immediately counter attack and Perry off of a failed attack so I'd say you would have Perry they would just throw that attack away and come with another attack but that's what djem so is it's offense and defense at the same time
I take it the Bat'leth video isn't coming? 😓
Teras Kasi is one of the martial arts the Matukai practice and with their spiritual force ability they are one of the deadliest hand-to-hand combat fighters in the galaxy.
I have been studying both Silat and Kali for a few years now. I didn’t know teras kasi represented those two arts in Star Wars. Thanks for the amazing video.
Looks like we have found a teras kasi practitioner
This quite coincidental as we have been doing a lot of this since 1973! We have have forms with many of these movements
When kicks and adaptations on aikijujitsu are added the displayed hand work, the segment take a more distructive turn. Later this year I will post in Vimeo under Jaribusystem martial arts. Come take a look
_When your lightsaber isn't enough to save you, throw your body into it!_ 😁👍
You'd think in such a technological world that someone would have discovered how to replicate what those "force killing" lizards could do because even the weakest Jedi is stronger than a good and strong non-force using warrior. It's a really unfair advantage. Its one of my only gripes with the Star Wars canon about only Jedi and Sith are able to use the Force when the Force is apart of everyone and everything. Therefore every body should have the potential of being able to use the force.
You’re correct and essentially anyone can. This has been noted in the original trilogy but it was more refined in the prequels and sequels I.E Finn being force sensitive even though he was a storm trooper. The thing is a lot of people are not students of the force so they don’t practice hence they lose it. Kind of like a language. You don’t practice a new language one is learning eventually you will forget it. The Mandolorians were notable at killing Jedi because they knew force use took concentration. As long as a Jedi and or force user’s focus is disrupted they cannot effectively use the force thus giving them an edge to take them down. Mandos use flame gauntlets and cable Gauntlets to confuse a Jedi and incapacitate them quickly. Like what Jango did in Attack of the clones and Dinn Jarin in the Mandolorian. Hope that helped.
Interesting to see this. Though a little disappointed you didn't cover Djem So considering it has a strong emphasis on power blows where all strength and power comes from your footwork. Many folks have come to the conclusion that it is derived from some form of European sword style.
Fun fact:teras kasi is based off pencak silat
Now imagine a charactor that knows teras kasi and zama shiwo
I'm instructing myself, this is very well done, defensive techniques that's was brilliant heavy shot to wear helmet and small joint areas beautifully done boys keep it up
excellent videos. plan on showing the kiddo these gems.
Thanks guys the has never really been explained.
11:26 Slight correction there mate but Blasters can be seen due to tge Ionized light and plasma they are made of. Making them visable to the naked eye. Also Jedi can react to light speed as well, bullets wouldn't even reach their circle. 🎓 But either way epic video! *Glad to have other martial art fanatics around!* 💪😃
@@ChadHuskins Yeah you're welcome! Just thought I'd clear those up, also nice details of the martial arts here! How'd you come up with this idea?
@@ChadHuskins AWESOME! Well, I'll be looking through your vids then!
QUESTION AND ANSWER TIME! For the creator of the Matador universe, Steve Perry. SCOTT NICHOLSON KURLAND: How real is the 97 Steps? Fictionalized silat? STEVE PERRY: It was completely made up when I started the books. A blend of aikido, kung-fu, tai chi, wu shu, ballet and gymnastics. Later, when I happened across silat and saw the parallels -- patterns on the ground, black steel, and the efficacy of the fighting form, I was surprised. A lot of what I thought I made up was already out there. The Musashi Flex is pretty much pure Silat Sera Plinck.
Psycho Series 💯💯🔥
Chad Huskins that’s dope I recently got into the history of pulp fiction paperbacks and the genre of “pulp weirds” I guess you could call them. I created my own genre where I combined aspects of urban fiction and cosmic horror. Which is why the Psycho books are one of my favorite series. Thanks for writing such a great series. Had a huge impact on the scope of my world and overall mythos in my writing. Salute dawg. Could use one more though. Just some food for thought. Continuation of the series would be mad epic. Spencer is the ultimate antihero.
Hoping you still want to do the Bat'leth video? I would love to pick your brain about this weapon.
Orbalisk armor pulls double duty being both force eaters and lightsaber immune but being living armor they will only bond with a force sensitive and only known one that could still use the force while wearing them was Bane
Teras Kasi should have bigger picture nowdays. I hope disney will produce series like mandalorian, but more emphasize the Teras Kasi (lore, character, history, etc)
@@ChadHuskins YES! And it should become premium show for Star Wars Universe. Imagine Mandalorian, but with Fist, Kick, Takedown, Lock Joint, Kriss and Karambit !!! Put Iko Uwais and the rest of Raid cast into it! But maybe tone down the gory and violence a little bit. Its for Disney 🤣
Concerning Star Wars martial arts what system did the Matukai Monks use? Would Stava be considered the Star Wars version of TaiJitsu the hand to hand art of the Shinobi?
Was hoping to find this.. Maybe a full tutorial series?
Waow, please make more of this !? 😀
Teräs Käsi sounds cool, and might be an effective martial art, if developed for real. ✋ 👊 🤲 🦶
@Endless Road.. I know, yes 😊
It’s based from Pencak Silat
@@PhinTheShoto.. I found out 😊👍
📙💯
Did they teach this art to Stormtroppers?
It is a KUNG FU idiots!
I'm glad you suggested watching The Raid and The Raid II. Great movies on their own, but some of the most brutal martial arts in a movie. Definitely great demonstrations of choreographed _pencak silat,_ for sure.
one question i've recently just through of though is how do martial arts like this would handle blaster wielding opponents
Rush the opponent while wearing a personal shield and/or armor with anti-energy mesh. Unless it's a stormtrooper with a standard-issue E-11. Then you're fine until you're about 3 feet away from the barrel. :P
@@KalibreSteelblast maybe but one thing is this one group called the shapers of kro var didn't exactly have that tech plus they did apparently trash a invasion by the CIS
"Didn't appear in any of the films." Darth Maul was a Teras Kasi Practitioner.
Also appeared briefly in Solo... Qi'ra was trained in it...
I mean we never got to see it in its full glory I.e a non force user using it against a force user
Teräs Käsi - Inspired by Pencak Silat I love Pencak Silat, very cool and deadly martial art. 👏
TBH using martial arts to fight a psychic wizard samurai with laser swords is dumb
@@ChadHuskins Aye, or Mandalorian iron for armor.
Psychic wizard samurai with laser sword is a dumb sentence to begin with lol
It worked for the Clone Assassins, at least against Padawans and Knights. Also it should be kept in mind that there are other techniques non-Force sensitives can use against Jedi
I've just read the novel Darth maul shadow hunter..and it mentions his use of the "riding bantha" pose..I reckon it's the stance he uses in phantom menace when dueling on naboo and he springs back on his feet, legs wider almost like he was riding a bantha? Other mentioned in book was the "rising rancor" sounds striking eh!! Yr video deserves lot wider viewing..was really detailed.. glad I found it!!
Chad thanks for reply and info..I will look out for mace windy book sounds good!! 😋😉
Chad thinking bout it lucky isn't a riding the reek pose in teras kasi.. u know creature bit like rhino in attack of the clones geonosis arena 😂
You should do a video on the Vulcan martial art of Suus Mahna.
