#DEAD Free Van Camping here is over. The police are shining spot lights and flash lights in windows and ticketing most nights. We we told to move on several nights over a week stay. Not cool.

I’m not exaggerating, I promise you! On the correct pavement, where the window reflects sunlight back to it so that it gets more sunlight, on a 72°F day I measured 223°F on sunlit pavement! No need to go to Arizona, just use the correct surface! On a 90°F day, a surface like that would probably reach 250°F, you could probably hard boil an egg outside if you set everything up correctly.

Well damn. 20 years ago I did 2 months of surfing at San O after driving out from Wisconsin. I was easily able to get a spot for tent camping at San Mateo every time I tried, either online or by just paying at the entrance. This sucks if it is booked so far in advance. I'm retiring soon and my plan was to do the van life thing at San O for at least 3 months straight.

Not been to Rocky Point, ironic since my wife is from Zacatecas Mexico. However worth a stay is the Riu Suites in Puerto Vallarta--its an all inclusive resort--a cruise ship on land, with a huge pool area, with an adult pool, a kids pool, and great beach access with warm Pacific water. My wife and daughter flew ahead of me to Zacatecas then drove to Puerto Vallarta with her parents. My daughter was not told I was going to fly down to join them. My in-laws drove her to the airport saying they were going shopping, and I clear customs. My wife said "who is that" and my daughter screamed "its Daddy!" and she flew into my arms, everyone in the airport was laughing as 50 pounds of daughter landed in my arms. We had a great time at the Riu--there are a couple of resort sponsored videos on UA-cam which show the pools. They have a kids club--allowed my wife and I to go Kayaking in the Pacific, then swimming in the Pacific and then we checked out the adults pool. OK for a drink, but we liked the ambiance of the other pool open to kids. Another great resort we stayed at was the Beach club at Epcot--a once in a lifetime trip, given its expense, but its pool area, with a lazy river and the best waterslide I have ever been on, was wonderful and a break from the theme parks, refreshing us for nightime visits to one park or another. It's walking distance from Epcot. When we arrived there, out of nowhere someone came with balloons and came up to us--we were announced "Family of the Day", upgraded to a concierge floor room. It was fantastic--we had free breakfast, lunch and pre dinner snacks, which saved us a small fortune since food is the biggest expense at Epcot and sometimes a wait. There is a video of its water slide on youtube. We were never ones for water parks, too crowded, but this resort had its own, best water park in the US, and also they had a sandy beach.

Enjoyed this video. Used to take mini vacations to this hotel, first my wife and I then along with our daughter when she was old enough. The hotel was about an hour's drive from our home near Surprise Arizona. In the summer, rates are at a steep discount--and it's the best time to enjoy the pool area, which I feel is the best in Phoenix. My daughter loved the sand beach--so did I. In 2023 a huge water park and indoor outdoor Mattel theme park will open near the Glendale football stadium with a resort hotel, which at 1000+ rooms will be the largest in Arizona. Development around the football stadium has been huge, including a casino a half mile north of the stadium, the closest to downtown Phoenix and Vegas sized. Miss the Hyatt, now my daughter is 22 and doing graduate study in Italy until August. Thanks for sharing this memory and your son steals the show! Don't let that go to his Dad's head! Phoenix also has a six flags water park not far from Deer Valley. Last, we have in Tempe the Kiwanis indoor wave pool. My wife and I, though divorced, went on a date there--yes, we still date--we had to divorce when my work took me back east but she did not want to leave her job with the AZ dept of education, not wanting to lose a job she has had since '95, not long after we married. But we did not give up dating and chose to not remarry so I could be on disability, sadly its a two hour roundtrip for her to meet me so we get together when my daughter is in town, and Covid kept us apart because we had nowhere to eat with dining closed for so long. One day I will con her into returning to the Hyatt so we can build sandcastles and act less mature than your son is in this video--he is one cool young man. John in Phoenix
